Could someone send me a few pages of the NIV Application Commentary. This is one that I've been on the fence for some time now. Any passage would be helpful, but Philippians 1:12-18 would be ideal, as it is what I'm preaching on this Sunday.
It's on Google Books, here: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=T5mS1bJf-k8C&lpg=PT271&ots=vcH1nv-lG7&dq=philippians%20thielman&pg=PT93#v=onepage&q&f=false
Mark,
Thanks. While they don't display all of the pages for a given passage so that I can get a complete picture of how they treat a passage, they do display enough to give me a fairly good idea.
I used the print versions before buying the electronic. The series is uneven (as many series are).
It seems that some of the writers have more difficulty adapting to the format of the series (dividing up into different categories: Original Meaning, Bridging Contexts, Contemporary Significance).
The volume that I have used that is my favorite is Hebrews by George Guthrie. His introduction is the best introduction to any commnetary I have ever read. It is worth the price of the volume by itself.

Contemporary significance:
Thankful for December 2011 sale => NIV Application Commentary: New Testament (NIVAC) (20 vols.)
Logos has pre-publication => NIV Application Commentary: Old Testament (NIVAC) (12 vols.)
Keep Smiling [:)]
Original Meaning section for Phil. 1:12-18:
Thanks everyone. This was very helpful. Still on the fence, perhaps when the next great sale comes along[:D]
I can't wait for the NIV Application Old Testament to come out. Mainly, because of the commentary by Bill Arnold. I got to know Bill Arnold a few years back when he was at Wesley Biblical, and I think he is one of the sharpest young Old Testament scholars around. He is a great guy too.
I may jump on the NIVAC OT because I need to beef up on my Old Testament commentaries. I returned the NT series because I'm planning on completing the BECNT. I have way too many NT commentaries, but just a few on the OT. I may try it out and we'll see what happens. If anyone can post or email me the whole copy and paste of Obadiah (1 chapter only) I'll greatly appreciate it. I'd like to have a sample before buying it.

I've got the same problem as you DAL, and have been using the Classic Commentaries and Studies to boost my OT library (with albeit older scholarship.)

That's why I love my NICNT/OT and WBC
