Classic Commentaries on Leviticus Closes 3/9

Not long left and it still doesn't seem to appear near the top of the Community Pricing List, sorted by Progress. Perhaps another week until bids close would be helpful...

I would have thought third was fairly near the top - would get you a medal in the Olympics [:)]

On the subject of progress...Im glad Thomas Boston is making some. Think it will be possible to get him over the line for next week?

Thanks, David, third is high. I think there was a refresh issue. It really did appear well down the list, with less than 50% progress I think. Either it got a sudden rush of bids or else Logos made a deliberate change just before bids closed. I've read in the forums before of Logos helping titles over the line and sometimes titles do seem to take a sudden boost in progress. I don't know if this is about meeting targets or re-estimating costs to produce or what. Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes, thanks, Bill. I'm glad that you posted, though it was my previous bid and the subsequent email that alerted me to it crossing the line. I checked the community pricing page and it appeared to be really low down, with less than 50% progress (see previous comment). I then looked in the forums for comments to see if anyone else had noticed. That's how I found your post.
My thinking is that anyone who is away from computer access for a couple of days, or isn't obsessive about checking the forums and CP page, may have missed out on the really low price. I think Logos should leave longer for bids to close after titles cross the line, especially if they're helping them cross the line just before the weekly bidding cut off. If it had received its boost just hours later, then there would have been an extra week for bids to be placed.

One way of making sure you find out about resources crossing the line is to place a low bid on them. There are a number of resources currently in CP that I have a bid of $10 on, simply to ensure I receive an email notification when they cross the line. Then I can decide whether or not I want to increase my bid to the market price.
Of course this system does require that you check your email from time to time [:D]

Yes, thanks, David. As I noted in my response to Bill, this is exactly how I found out about it. My concern is that we would only have 2 days to note the email and respond. I caught it this time, but not everyone is able to access email so frequently, and even those of us who do may have longer periods without or, dare I say it, busy lives outside of the world of Logos that limit our speed in responding. This would cost over $100 if we were to order a resource like the commentary collections after they leave Community Pricing. (Thanks to Paul Newsome for making this so easy to check: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/39093/346723.aspx. Take the hint, Paul. [;)])

Agreed, Andrew, but I think we miss Logos' intent of CP by assuming that it's to help us all get these collections as inexpensively as we can... at what's likely to be the least expensive price ever. That's not their stated goal in CP, which is to cover the cost of production so that they CAN get more resources into production for all of us. It's up to us to help each other not to miss out, though I still agree with you that they'd be delighting us again by giving us an extra week to increase the base of covering their cost. Should they choose to do that, though, we both know that it'd be at some expense to their future profit.
I still agree with you it'd be nice. But I don't think it's a reasonable expectation, given the setup of the program. Nor do I necessarily think it'd be fair to Logos--even though I too would like to see more time on all the CPs, freebies, etc. It's hard to get to email that often so as not to miss out! Just as you say.

Looks like Bill's prediction of $25 is still possible [:)]
All it will take is the hold-outs bidding $20 to raise their bids this evening or early tomorrow and it will be available to everyone for $25.....

That's an interesting statement of Logos' intent, Bill. I don't think I was referring to each of us getting these collections as inexpensively as we can, though that would be nice. [:D] I was really focusing on more people getting resources. My thinking was that Logos wants to cover production costs, which both of us are allowing, but also that they want to equip as many people as possible with Bible study resources. I think more people will be equipped with these resources if there isn't too short a closing window for bids. Maybe I'm misreading their mission statement (http://www.logos.com/about/mission), but it seems that Logos looks beyond pure profit and wouldn't necessarily choose making more resources available at the cost of spreading them widely. I think my request is a positive, straightforward and relatively simple-to-implement suggestion that helps fulfil their mission, generates customer good will and helps more customers get inexpensive resources. I'd be interested to hear if you see things differently.

Hi Andrew, not so sure we're in disagreement other than their purpose for CP & whether or not they'd want to change it as you so reasonably suggest. My only point is whether or not we have any right to expect them to, as Bob's been pretty clear that they have to be a business in order to serve their mission. It wouldn't surprise me if they adopted your suggestion--as they so often take delight in delighting us. However, it also won't surprise me if they stay the course, given that CP was originally an experimental way to get stuff into production that they couldn't get enough subscribers for at a fixed preset price in the prepub venue.
Many blessings to you, & I hope your suggestion is adopted.
Grace & Peace,
Bill

Only 2 hours to go, and only a few more bids needed for the Classic Commentaries and Studies on Leviticus (21 vols.) to go for 25 instead of 30.
