…PBB’s,  Vocab-list, The Sermon file add-in, etc., etc.,

Then I would probably not have L3 installed. But at the moment it is since I cannot use the associated files in L4.

So I guess the real question is:

Can Bob, or someone from Logos HQ elaborate on what sort of timeframe it will be when we could possibly remove L3?

Thanks.

We already have PBB.  There are other threads that talks abour vocab lists and sermon file add-in, but I do not have the time to look them up.  I have always said if notes could be tagged, they would be the best spot for our sermons.  I hope Logos goes this rout instead of adding another subsystem to L4.

Not really, The PBB is not PBB but PB, and the original needs re-compiling provided you have the original source. The older pbb's are not, nor have been, to the best of my knowledge.

Yes there are other threads on vocab and sermon file, but they are still related directly to L3 and on the "wish-list" for L4.

Here let me rephrase it so that there is no confusion:

I would like to remove L3 but I can not due to having PBB's, Vocab List's, Sermonfiles, etc., etc. still in L3 format, so if Can Bob or someone from Logos HQ elaborate[apparently too many syllables] on what sort of could let us know if there is a reasonable timeframe it will be for when we could possibly be able to remove/uninstall L3, that would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't think you will see the L3 PBB come to L4 ... ever.  They created the PB functionality in L4 to serve as the replacement for the PBB functionality in L3.  I'm thankful Logos went through the effort to give us the PB functionality in L4, despite the fact that it cost them who knows how many dollars and gave them $0 in profit.

I don't use L3 - I came to Logos when L4 came out - so for me it is a non-issue.  But I feel your frustration.  I wonder, for those L3 PB's, is there a way to export them to a Word document from within L3?  For instance, in L4 we can export up to 100 pages of any book at a time - to PDF, Word, etc.  If not, can you print and use a PDF Printer to export them to PDF?  You could then convert the PDF to Word.  You'd have to do some cleaning up, and of course tag the documents.  But, if its a book you really care about and really want to get rid of L3, it may just be worth the effort.

For L3's personal books, Logos has said that they are not going to convert them and they are not going to provide a tool to convert them for L4.  For the sermon tool, there is a thread that states that it is still being designed, and that thread is not old.  Therefore, I would say that it is still 6 to 12 months out.  But this is nothing more than a SWAG.

Yes, I am aware of what Bob said:

Vocab/Word list: coming back, relatively soon.

Sermon File: we are planning on relacing this with something different, but have been convinced otherwise. We are presently re-specifying the feature for inclusion in teh 4.x time frame.

So if your speculation is around 6-12 months out, then thats your reply. Then by your speculations I could remove/uninstall L3 sometime or around a year from now?

By the way, I am not up on urban slang but I did look it up as such, so what is your definition of SWAG?

Rev Chris - some are rather large../that may be the end result.

Thanks.

A WAG is a "Wild A$$ Guess" and a SWAG is a "Scientific Wild A$$ Guess."

Relatively soon is sooner than soon, but really have no idea how soon.

Depends on your personal usage when to remove Libronix 3 (or not install after a computer upgrade).

Years ago, Logos published a date for initial Libronix port to Mac, then missed that date by many months; much to the chagrin of Mac users.  Hence, Logos is now quite reticent about projecting dates.  Wiki has => Mac Release Notes and History that has an initial wild guess for Logos 4 Mac, which took a few months longer for initial stable release delivery.  Thankful for many awesome Logos 4 Mac improvements, however Feature Parity is not (yet) complete (perhaps Logos 5 ?).  More recently, Logos had hoped to have reading plan sync working before the end of 2011, but currently still a work in progress with improvements happening (e.g. currently waiting for Logos 2.1.0 app approval in Apple's App Store).

Could you post a list of the PBB titles you have (with author names) which you wish were available in PB format? Some of them might have been done already. Check out this list of User Contributed Personal Books which I've been curating. I know it's not yet anywhere near as large a list as the Libronix PBBs that are available on StillTruth, but any authors who have advocates who would like to do the work of converting the PBBs to PBs using the method Rev Chris described above, I'm pretty sure that all of a given author's works could be done in just a couple of hours, depending on how much output they've got.

List your top priorities first and maybe someone else would be eager to help you with doing them. Otherwise you're gonna be on your own. There is no plan to natively convert compiled L3 PBBs to compiled L4 PBs ever, and that has been a final answer from Logos. So it is going to be manual labor no matter what, whether you do it, or recruit some of your friendly Logos community members from the forums.

So the answer to how soon you can get rid of L3 will depend in part on how many PBBs you have and how long it takes for you (and whoever else offers to help) to convert them. I did one in about 10-15 minutes, and it had Greek text in it and was 146 pages long in Word. Once I see your list, if the authors are ones I'm interested in too, I might be willing to help out.

I got the impression that Vocab lists are already nearly done and will be in the next 4.x release though that wasn't promised. So I'm counting on 4.6 (which will probably be out and fully beta tested within 6 months). Sermon File will probably be later, since it has only been spec'ed but work hasn't started on it yet. But I'm guessing it will probably be within a year. These are just guesses. SWAGs (that was a new term for me, too!)

Had an idea as to what it meant this year, watching T.V. with my children. Smile Basically, it means cool/hip. Used differently altogether.

It also makes me think of "Waltzing Matilda":

Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
"You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me."

A swagman (Aussie/NZ term for an underclass transient temporary worker) was called that because he carried his swag (bedroll or bundle of belongings) around with him.

As good as the new Personal Books feature is, it is missing one quite important feature of the old lbxoeb's.  The Libronix personal books were normally distributed in their compiled form and so links to personal books were stable.  However the new version (for now at least) has books distributed as Word files which the user then can compile.  While this allows great flexibility, it also causes the resource ID to change, making wonderful collections like MJ's creeds only a dream in L4.

I hope that the expected PB marketplace will "fix" this soon, but I am not aware of any solid information about it.
