I wanted to post about my experience downloading resources onto the iPad in case any of the developers want feedback.

I started by opening up my Library and clicking the "Download All" button at the top. That is a sweet feature, and I thank you for including it.

It was a process that took me two tries. I started at home the night I got the iPad, and I didn't get very far. It kept hanging up on me. I think I have a marginal connection (I've been fairly disappointed with uverse over comcast since I switched), and I have a feeling that when there was a connection time out, it just kind of stopped.

So I tried the next day at work, and that hummed along just fine. I could watch it download each resource as it went through my library.

However, I still had to baby sit it. Every once in a while (it seemed to be primarily non-English resources) I would get a pop-up that would tell me it couldn't download a particular resource. So I had to sit there and watch it to click the "OK" button every time Logos encountered one of those books. That meant my screen was on that whole time and I had to remain in a distracted state. Perhaps Logos can simply download whatever it can and provide a filter on the Library that shows only downloaded resources or only non-downloaded (still in the cloud) resources, then you could see what did not download at the end.

I am also wondering if I will ever lose these downloads. My experience so far has only been with Android, but three times now I've been "logged out" after some kind of software update, and the resources I had downloaded to my phone disappeared. Does that happen in iOS too? I'd prefer not to have to go through the process again (especially if I'm on the road with no internet access) mostly because it's fairly laborious.

Thanks, Bill

If you delete the app, you will lose the resources and have to start over. Last fall, Apple made a change about how it allows apps to manage data (resources), which caused Logos users to lose resources when an update occurred. Logos has changed the app to conform to the new standard, and it is expected that the loss of data (resources) will not occur again… [fingers crossed]

Thanks alabama24, that's a relief to hear. Naturally I'll roll with the punches. I'm sure we'll get to see what happens soon enough as they update for the new display.

How many books did you download and how much space did it take up?

I downloaded about 1,600 resources on to the iPad, and it says Logos is taking up 6.7 GB. I had to babysit the downloading (to click "OK" on dialog boxes when the app couldn't download a resource), and I noticed the image heavy resources took the longest to download, so I assume those take up the most space. If you exclude image collections, atlases, etc, I think the total space would be much smaller.

Very helpful to know.  That is what I am in the process of doing.  Does this number of resources slow down your app?

Peace to my Logos Forums Brothers and Sisters!                                   and ...            ......  Always Joy in the Lord!              *smile*

I'm fairly new to the iPad since just have received mine (iPad2 64G) at Christmas.

It's hard to put into words how wonderfully my iPad2 with my many Logos resources has enriched my life!   !!!  Super-Great, eh?!

So far I've been downloading the books as I need them or anticipate needing them, especially for the Airplane Mode.

Not only do I have the Logos app, I also have the FaithLife app and the Vyrso app. I've been downloading resources according to the different ways I use these apps and have found that I use the various apps from Logos for different purposes. Also, that permits me to check out a resource on a different app while not "messing up" the arrangement on the app I've been working on.

Since I use my iPad 2 almost exclusively for my Logos-related studies (it is my wife who is consumed with Angry Birds!), I'm not concerned about the large amount of memory my resources (over 5,500 - Portfolio and lots of purchases!)  actually use since 64G will go a long way.

However, today I realised that when I download a bunch of resources for Logos ...    then a bunch of resources for Vyrso  ....     that I'm often storing the same resources twice!

Thats OK in my case, but I thought I'd mention it in case some of you are cramped for space   ...    that you if you do the same thing, you may be storing the same resource twice separately -- once in each app.

Did you see the splendid sight this evening of Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and the New Moon in the Western Sky???          Praise God, eh?

Yes I used an iPhone app tonight to help me identify them. Smile

Hello William,

The Download All feature has improved in the latest test version such that a single dialog mentioning how many resources can't be downloaded should appear at the beginning of the download (instead of many such dialogs popping up along the way).  Thanks!

Many, many thanks for streamlining the process!

By the way, as I'm new to the iPad scene (including Logos on iPad), and I've been tinkering with it while in the presence of others. So far everybody has been duly impressed. I was even doing something simple like looking up a passage in a different translation (with the split screen window), and the person watching said, "That's really cool!"

I really appreciate the work that goes into this fine product. Thanks again.
