I got an email today saying the Church Pulpit Commentary CP was closing 4/13 and that it's currently $40 and I had bid $45. I didn't remember ordering this, and when I looked at the preview pages I knew I wouldn't have been interested. So I cancelled my CP bid - unfortunately before I'd checked to see when I had supposedly ordered it.

There's hardly discussion of it at the Forums so I don't know what would have piqued my interest so as to order it. Has anyone here found themselves scheduled to buy a book they never ordered?

Sounds like you got caught in the cp bidding and forgot to cancel your bid - completely. This purchase is directly related to it…if you bid and as soon as it goes into production they consider that bid a purchase and the price is the bid if it sells higher, if the price is lower than your bid that is the price you pay…

You may want to call sales and see if it can be recended...

Observation: bid was placed, but order was not created since CP bidding had not closed.

Looking at => http://www.logos.com/product/8516/church-pulpit-commentary noticed key features includes a number of illustrations.

I am not sure if your asking this......

Just because you have created an order.....that  went through....It is still "in production" you can delete the order.....no big deal....I have reconsidered my purchases and decided it was a bit pricey compared to another book so i deleted the order.....if the book shipped....just call and say you don't want it anymore.....again no big deal....

to answer the question.....I think I have scheduled but never ordered.....what i put it up to......I do put things on order on a inckling that i might want that....later I say oh yes Im glad I got that for  20 dollars  or I say what.....I ordered that....no way.....why would I have ordered that.....but I must have oh well....just delete the order....

Im thinking you did order it on a whim but....now   questioning the order you just dont remember.....its not uncommon.....

If I understand Logos CP program, you are not billed until it ships and you can cancel your order anytime before it ships. But if you cancel something that moves from CP to Pre-pub you can never get the CP price if you change your mind and want it again. So there will be three prices for the product CP winning bid, Pre-pub price, final price once published (of course then there could be sales). If you are not sure you don't want it don't cancel until you are or it shows a ship date on the Pre-pub page. If there is no way you will ever want it, no problem, cancel without consequence.

What I'm saying is that it looks like I actually bid $45 for this resource on CP at some point (but because I canceled my order/bid yesterday before looking at my account, I now can't find out when I supposedly ordered/bid for this), and therefore Logos sent me an email yesterday confirming my bid price and that it would close 4/13 and that since the price now was $40 my bid would likely succeed. See the email below.

And my question was: I don't recall ever bidding on this resource, and when I looked at its description I KNEW it was not a resource I would have bid on.

So I was wondering if somehow the Logos purchasing system wrongly bid for me on this product; if I indeed had looked at it and accidentally hit the bid link; or what? I.e., anyone else out there get notice of a product purchase or bid they had made when they knew they had never purchased or bid on that product?

The email I got:

Logos Bible Software
1313 Commercial Street
Bellingham, WA  98225-4307

(800) 875-6467

Bidding will close on 4/13/2012 for Church Pulpit Commentary (12 vols.)

The current community price for this product is $40.00.

Your bid for this product is $45.00.

Upon closing, your current bid will be successful and your Pre-Pub order for this product will be placed at the community price.

To edit your bids for community priced products, visit ...

The final price for this product will be lower for everyone if we receive enough new bids before the closing date, so please spread the word to anyone you know who may be interested in this. Thank you for your interest in this product!

You must have bid on it in your sleep. Logos can't create orders out of thin air.

Having experienced some mouse click focus issues at times, suspect "accidentally" bid a bit more (possibly a click meant for something else placed bid, which was not noticed before moving away from web page).

Apologies: have not had an unexpected purchase from Logos.com (thus far my purchases and bids have been expected).

Well I can say that to date I have never experienced this type of thing coming from HQ. Being that we are at times creatures of habit, it may be possible that at one time you decided that you may have needed this resource, then forgot about it.

On the other hand, I am continually checking my order status, or, those that I have on my wish list to go on sale.

Eric - As others have suggested, I suspect you clicked on it by accident. I have done this before, although I caught it immediately. The most important thing for you to know is that you would not have been charged anything at this point. This is quite an important distinction to make! The email said that "upon closing" a "Pre-Pub order… will be placed." It does not say that you will be charged for it at this time. Personally, I do not order many CP items. There are some, however, that I think I might want, so I will place a reasonable (for me) bid. Once the item closes, it may be on Pre-Pub for a LONG time! You can delete it from Pre-Pub at any time. I am not suggesting you do this frivolously, but if you are undecided about something, go for it! You have nothing to lose.

Back when I used to scrutinize over the Classic Commentaries and Studies Collections it was important to put a bid down on the first day the collections posted to the website, so I would have an accurate date for how long they've been in CP.  More than once I would be browsing the CP pages and accidently click a different price, thus replacing my original bid date.

All that to say "to err is human"!

Welcome Big Smile

Currently Church Pulpit Commentary (12 vols.) has a status of "Under Contract" that should change to an estimated ship date.  About two weeks prior to estimated ship date, anticipating an email about processing pre-publication order.  If order not cancelled, then when order ships, another email is sent about resource being ready to download (along with credit card being charged).
