There has previously been some discussion of this here and elsewhere.

At the moment there are two ways of sharing resources via Faithlife.

The first option is to 'share' a quotation with a particular Faithlife group. The quote then appears in the timeline within the relevant Faithlife group.

The second option is to add a community note which is then visible to the relevant Faithlife group in Biblia, L4 (currently in Beta) or via the Faithlife app.

In my view, this second option is lacking in functionality and, as such, is inconsistent with behaviour of other social networking sites.

Consider, for example, Facebook.

I am able to interact with Facebook in all kinds of ways. I can 'share', 'like' and access online content via Facebook-compatible apps. All of this activity is visible on my timeline. It seems to me that Faithlife should similarly display pertinent activity within the appropriate groups. For example, where I add a note for the Faithlife Beta group (whether this be via Biblia, L4 or via the app), this should be recorded within the Faithlife Beta group timeline and My Faithlife timeline ('Andrew has just added a note to...').

Without this functionality, I am not sure how a member of the Faithlife Beta group would know I had posted the note unless they stumbled across it or I went ahead and pointed them towards the note via the Faithlife Beta group timeline (which is, in my view, an unnecessary additional step).

I appreciate there may be a concern about group timelines being swamped with 'activity' posts. I would suggest, therefore, that users are provided with the opportunity to hide and subscribe to activity posts. An individual may choose, therefore, to hide all activity posts pertaining to the Faithlife Beta group. Alternatively, the said individual may wish to selectively hide the activity of particular individuals within the group, but continue to view the activity of other individuals within the group in question.

I do appreciate that the site is still in Beta and you may well have functionality planned which will address this issue. This just occurred to me as I was playing around with the site and so I thought I would flag it.

The "notifications" system is being coded and will be available in coming weeks. You'll be able to see all activity there. We're also looking at other ways of showing note taking with your groups.

That is really good news.

Thank you very much for responding.

Yes Fantastic! Thanks Bob...I'm assuming this will include the ability to get e-mail notifications for group posts?

Yes, you'll eventually have control over what's sent to you by email -- updates for particular activity, a daily digest, a weekly digest, etc.
