Do you have a note file open first?

You are out of date. Stable channel has advanced to SR1.

I was trying to create a note for a word in a verse- normally hilite and add note- but add note not there only "add community note."

Updated to SR1- still no "add note", the only option is "add community note." This is very disconcerting- why would they remove "add note" no way everyone wants their notes published.
Is this a bug? or just an oversight?

Mine looks like yours- shows last note- but what is missing, there used to be just "add note", looks like it has been replaced by "add community note."
Best way to see what I mean is watch this Logos video: http://www.logos.com/video/2320/notes-part-1-revised

Technically it shows the last notesfile which was open (or all currently open notesfiles) as opposed to "last note".

I see what you mean - but I can't remember ever seeing this.
I would have guessed that you get this option when you have never had a notesfile open and it allows you to create a new note in an untitled notesfile. However, this is not consistent with your comment that you have been seeing this recently.
I would be surprised if this is related to the introduction of community notes but I don't understand how you were getting this option in the first place!
People have been asking for this feature for a long time - the ability to create a note in a new notesfile from the right-click menu - and it is something which had never been made available to the best of my knowledge.
Sorry I can't throw any more light on this

It seems to me, that nothing is missing, but the "Add note" feature in reality added a note to "Untitled Notes" and that's what L4 now makes explicit. The community notes are extra.
Have joy in the Lord!

I believe you have been able in the past to attach notes to verses- there has been an "add note" option available to do this without having to go to files + notes to do this.
If I hilite a verse and then go to files + notes it doesnot create a note file attached to that verse.

Apologies: using Logos 4.5b SR-1, unable to replicate.
Suggest contacting Logos => http://www.logos.com/about/contact (since current Beta release is a stable version) or attaching diagnostic logs; wiki has => Diagnostic Logging (wondering if SQLite database file is malformed, which is preventing normal Note functionality).

Whyndell - When a resource already has a note, the right click menu should (and has in the past) show the note files in use within that resource (as well as recently used or open note files).
EDIT: I am unsure about this. I can't remember if this is how it functioned or not (but it should).

I am not sure what you mean, or why you would do that, but you are right about the regression described above.

According to their video, if you hilite a word or verse, in the right click function there should be "add note", not just "add community note."
If you want to create a new note file on a word in a verse, or subject study, you should be able to click "add note" and begin the process anew.
Yes i do use th enote function in this way- and it is described as such in this video provided by Logos for Logos4 running Windows: http://www.logos.com/video/2320/notes-part-1-revised

The video is VERY old. The reworking of the note feature may have changed this. In any case, if you open a note file, it will appear in the right click menu. Also, the last used note file should appear. When did you use the note feature last? (I am asking because at the very least, your last used note file should appear).

I do not see "add note" in right click- just "add community note" - I do not use community notes- so right click is only 50% functional for me.
There should be and IS NOT an "add note" function if you right click.

Please enable diagnostic logging, restart Windows, launch Logos 4.5b, then try adding a note again. If right click menu still missing "add note", please compress your Logging folder (with diagnostic log files), then reply and attach compress file for Logos users and employees to examine and comment.

I watched the video again. In principle, notes work the same. In the video, if you notice, the first time he creates a note it says "add note" (screen shot 1). The second time, "add note" is no longer present (screen shot 2). Instead, the open note file (which was created the first time) is available. In the third screen shot, you can see my layout with the last used note file available.

The thing that is strange here as that unless one has never had a notesfile open you should always be presented with the last notesfile used as opposed to just a "blank" add note option.

I don't believe this is current behaviour (or old behaviour) - all I have ever seen is either the last notesfile used or all notesfiles currently open.
(I note that you have raised this in the Suggestions forum and I think it is a good idea)

Ok if add note is never available then - I give up.
It seems this situation is not making since- why would I create a totally different study use a note file for a previous study?
I'll find a work around or continue to Bibleworks.

Whyndell - If you want to create a new note file, you do that through the file menu. If you want to reuse a note file, you must open it first.

You still haven't told us if "Add a Note to" appears when you have a note file open.

If you describe what you are trying to do (i.e. what kind of study, what resources, etc), perhaps we could give you some pointers. [:)]

am confused.. I think there may be a flaw in your process, or maybe this will act as a work -around..
if you say File >NEW >Notes and give it a name ie "Current Study", it appears in the right click context menu underneath "add community notes", so am confused as to why you would want/need a "add note" link,

CORRECT! Why would you not have that function available all the time in "right click", it only makes sense to have it there- so users can start a new topic, study or just start inserting thoughts on the passages they read- makes more sense than "add community notes", I don't use this function and do not see a time in the next decade where I would.
"Add note" should be there permanently.

sorry I must be thick..
"Add Note" as was added then new note to the last opened notefile, which is why I am gettiing confused as you have "Add note to LAST_FILE_IN_USE" already on the right context menu beneath "add community notes", reinstating the "Add Note" link would do exactly the same, hence I still dont understand why you would want to go back to that.. and have 2 links to the same place
To me its purely cosmetic.. though respect your right to disagree

In the video, "add note" created both:
- A new note file
- A new note
From my previous SCREEN SHOTS, (which were taken of the video Whendell referenced), it is apparent to me that "add note" was only present before a note file had been created (or perhaps before a note file was open). Notice that "add note" disappears in the second screen shot and is replaced with "add note to creation," where "creation" is the new note file created during step 1.
Here are some of my improvements for notes:
- The ability to create a new note file from the right click menu.
- The ability to choose note files (open or not) to save to from the right click menu.
- The ability to select a default note file for each resource.
- MUCH better file management, a complete overhaul.

If I remember correctly, it was there after you started L4 and before a note file was open. Once a note file was open, then it went away until the next time you started L4.alabama24 said:it is apparent to me that "add note" was only present before a note file had been created (or perhaps before a note file was open)

Exactly- if I start a new study- I do not want to add it to a previous note file or to community notes- so a "add note" option should be the starting point for all new studies, projects or any other function you may be using notes for.
Right click is for functionally- without having to go through a tedious file-notes-insert text or verse-etc. function; hiliting a word or verse right click- add note and start is much more efficient, and desirable.
It is my personal preference- that is why presently a lot of note issues are being address in Bibleworks- user friendly- though it has limitations as well.

It really shouldn't have arisen. We are thinking users and will tend to raise such issues if the functionality is lacking[:)]
