OS X Swipe Gestures broken
I have Logos set to notify me when updates are ready to download.
90% of the time, when I click on the 'download now' link that appears in a window to the bottom right of L4Mac, the window disappears, the download starts, and my 'four finger' gestures stop working. I can no longer switch between desktops. Two finger gestures (such as back a page in Chrome) are working fine.
This only seems to happen when using this one link in this one app ... and may happen as much as 100% of the time (I am just not sure).
I am using the latest RC, but this fault existed in the previous version at least (with a vague recollection of the one before that as well).
To clear it ... well I cannot!, other than restarting the computer. It does clear itself after 5-15 minutes but that seems to be related to some other program doing something that 're-initialises' the swipe. I have not worked out which app or what yet.
It has the feel of an event being claimed but not released, except that I cannot see why!
Has anybody else experienced this?
[edit] I can still switch between apps/spaces using the tab key and the dock. It seems to only be the gestures that are broken.

On a Mac track pad you can use gestures to switch between spaces/desktops.
This functionality stops completely after using the 'download now' link.
I understand gestures. I dont understand the rest. To what "download now" link are you referring?

The above is true after you run an automatically downloaded update, and until you reboot the machine (at which point the issue is resolved)?
Does this happen for resource updates or only version updates? Can you log the instance, and perhaps include the Console Log as well? http://www.logos.com/support/mac/L4/Logging
I've never noticed this on my personal machine, but I don't use the gesture in question very often. The next time there is an update, I'll try the gesture.

The download link appears in a small window in the bottom RHS of the screen when an update (code or resource) is detected. I cannot show it until I get an update but with the month starting tomorrow I am sure Vyrso will throw something my way [:)]

Do you have auto updates turned off or something? Does the screen look something like the following screen shot?

Doh!
Thats the one ... I forgot it also appears after the 'Update Now' command even when there are no downloads waiting.

This happens to me, too. After a while, the gestures begin working again.

I see it too. Doing a Force Quit on Finder (which causes Finder to relaunch) brings the gestures back.

It just happened again ... resource only download, although I think that it happens with version updates as well.
I have attached my logs but am not sure if they include the 'console log'.
BTW. A separate incident that I mention because my logs are inbound ... since the Classic Corinthians earlier this week, my indexer seems to crash ... it starts and then after a few minutes disappears, only to restart when I next start Logos.
Thanks
Martin.

They wouldn't include it. Can you open Console and select "All Message" on the left-hand panel? Then click FIle>Save a Copy As. . ., and attach that file as well?
Thank you.

It just happened again ..
Can you reproduce the behavior when no updates are found, or do updates actually have to be found, and Logos 4 has to be restarted?

Good catch .. It also happens when I click on the 'No updates available' text after the 'Update Now' command. I would normally use the X to close this but clicking the message also caused the problem.
The behaviour is inconsistent in that the gestures clearly do not work but Tabbing between apps is not work at the moment either, not the dock. They will only work if the app happens to be on the current space/desktop. When I run the 'mission Control' app, I can see the different spaces and switch between the normally. [:S]
On the indexer issue, I now have two indexers running (!) both in the task bar and activity monitor. They show different % completion, and different work rates (presumably different resources are being looked at). ... one has now disappeared (no idea how I can tell crash or success), the other seems to have been on 14% for ever, with respect to the time between launch and achieving 14%.
I have attached a newer set of logs in case they show anything else.
I will be out of town for a few days ... avoiding London and the Jubilee ... visiting friends in the Midlands ... back Thursday.
Thanks.

Forgot to say ... restarting Finder did not cure it this time ... but exiting Logos did!

I want to make sure I understand you correctly. When you actively search for updates, and when none are found, the behavior persists? I tried in this fashion and was unable to reproduce your experience. The swipe to different Desktop snapshots in Lion worked as expected. Have you tried re-installing the application file? To be honest that is the only thing I can think of to try. If you haven't could you please try that, and if it still doesn't work, repeat the process and post your Logos 4 and Console logs immediately after you reproduce the behavior. I'll send the logs over with a description and a link to this thread, and we'll go from there.
As for the indexer showing up twice, rebooting the machine should resolve the problem. The Mac has very little shared memory for recording program states (4kb). So if this gets filled occasionally this can happen. After you reboot the machine, if Logos 4 indexes you should only see one process.

Martin - I just wanted to let you know that you are not crazy… I experienced this today for the first time. [:S]
My system is indexing right now, but I plan to experiment a bit later. I will create a new thread in the Mac Beta forum and post a link here.

Alright gang, I received a bit more information on this. The issue is purely OS based. We cannot effect Apple's gestures, nor do we have access to them. I would call Apple about it--especially if you have Apple Care. -->800-275-2273

I apologize, but I don't believe it. I have never experienced this before until today, under the same situation that Martin described. I was able to repeat the behavior with update now once (before a restart), but after the restart all is well.
I use the 3 finger swipe hundreds of times daily. I have NEVER experienced this until update now was used twice today.

Martin - Could you take a look at THIS THREAD and see if my results are the same as yours?

Dear Tommy: Are you sure about that statement . Apple gives developers a lot of access to gestures and how they are applied.
If everything works "except" when logos is loaded, it's not a "OS" Problem but and interaction problem between Logos and the OS that is caused by something in Logos.
If the problem goes away when Logos is then closed, again we know it is logos specific. If it takes a few min. for the problem to clear, it may be something Logos is doing in memory and after memory is cleared, the problem is cleared.
Has anyone looked at memory usage when Logos is open and they try to use gestures, see if something spikes and stays?
