anybody else have a crash problem upon upgrade?

This only happens every single time, every time. The other stuff is nice and we all tried to be polite to Bob...but the random crashes ( they are not even unexpected at this point, it happens every time) are a bit tiresome.

Why have rc's at all since it isn't de-bugged to begin with?

I haven't tried this update yet, but, no, I don't think I've ever had a crash after an update.

I am so angry I can barely see straight. Installed on Windows first...looked good. Mac is a disaster. I just want it to work. I need to take my grand daughters to dinner, I need to work on my sermon, have to be at my other job at 7.00 am tomorrow and yet again, Logos crashes upon opening.

Robert - I can understand that you are upset, but you seem to have an isolated issue. It would be helpful to everyone if you could create a new thread, explain your issue and post logs. Make sure to enable logging. The Applescript application linked to in the wiki is very helpful.

Logos technical support is still open for another hour and a half or so (til 5PM Pacific).  That would seem to me to be the best way to get a quick resolution.

So the release notes say: "Implemented sync v2 for Clippings".

Does that mean that my clippings will be available on the iPhone & iPad sometime soon?

I read recently that Logos does intend to bring clippings to the mobile app, however no time table was given. The timing of the change may or may not be related.

FWIW Robert: I, and , many others, understand your frustration. I too experience strange behavior anytime Logos downloads "anything" to my install.

"The Problem" is that this should not be so, this should be a mature product with minimal issues across installs/hardware.

To those saying he has an isolated issue: I suggest you read the many pages, by many people of Logos opening in little boxes after an upgrade, there are many, many crashes reported right now, on just this one page.

Count up how many "different"  crash reports there are in the last three months, and thats just the ones reported here, not the ones called in, which is what most people do.

We should not have to report, send logs, post logs and try to trouble shoot are installs on a regular basis. I understand Roberts issue and my heart goes out to him. Logos is not a toy for him, it's a tool, he needs it to get his work done, his tool is broken, he can't work.

Lets all have a little compassion and perhaps try to help.

There, I have said my piece.

Robert, you might try launching while holding a key down, I think it's the option key.

The wiki has some workarounds you might try.

Sorry you are having the issue.

Rusty -

I have no reason to suspect that Robert is having anything other than an isolated issue. If there is any evidence otherwise, please let me know. Robert isn't complaining about the "little boxes" issue (which I have annoyingly been having recently too), but rather that his app is crashing. Your statement that there are "many crashes reported right now, on just this one page" is absolutely false. There is ONLY ONE and that is Robert.

Fr. Charles R. Matheny:

That is what I was trying to do. I suggested that he post a new thread, which is always a good idea when you are dealing with a new issue. Otherwise your issue is likely to get lost. As it turns out, he did so, and I have already tried to read his logs. Unfortunately, they were old and beyond my ability to understand.

I understand your frustration and I genuinely have compassion for you. I am currently unemployed (I graduated last year and have not found a church yet), and so I don't know the frustration of having the app crash while writing a sermon. My pain is different than yours. What I would ask from you, however, is that you have a little more grace in dealing with those of us who volunteer in the forums. We try to help others like Robert and yourself because we care about YOU. It is discouraging to get beat up by you when we try to help.

The only way I know how to help is to either view logs or refer them to customer service.  Do you have another suggestion?

Sorry Alabama: I count 9 different crash threads on the first Mac page, the current one.

That means nine before by cycled through because of new threads to push them down due to being resolved.

I know you were trying to help. Yet telling someone that it must be their fault of the fault of their machine just does not sound right.

Should be something like: Yep, Logos messes stuff up, thats why we have to post logs so much, sorry you are getting caught in some sort of recurring install issue, lets look at the logs.

Why should it be that way? Because Logos is unstable and messes things up. I have yet to have an install remain functional for 3 months. Not one time have I been able to go three months without having issues so major that I either have to have tech support or, re-install everything, re-index ect. Even with Tech support, this is often true.

Tech suppost answer: well, it happens, they are working on it.

Sorry to have offended you, was not my intention.

It's just that these things are not the fault of Logos owners, it's Logos Fault.

No Todd, sorry to say I don't other than: Having to post Logs should be something that happens rarely, to a very, very few.

Mature software should never have this many issues.

I have only once, in many years, had to post logs to Apple. ( They send an applet to do it, it's painless) .

No other software on my computer have I had to do so.

I personally would not mind and would indeed think it was great is this was an occasional thing.

I was broke down "again" this last weekend, right before finishing sermon and class prep.

Again- tool breaks when needed- not helpful.

Logos never followed up.

I finally just un-installed everything again. re-installed, re-indexed and it ran fine for a while. Then, back to opening up in little screens, sometimes not even all the way on the screen. Same ole junk.

Will not update it again though- It works, I'm not letting them "fix it" anymore-smile, I can't stand the down time-smile.

Rusty - I understand you now. You meant to say that there were 9 different crash threads on the first page of the Logos 4 Mac Forum. There is no other crash reports on THIS page. FWIW - I am still unaware of anyone having the same problem as Robert from tonight's update. (Just because someone has a crash, doesn't mean its the same issue).

Fr. Charles R. Matheny:

I never told Robert it was his fault nor did I blame his machine. I did say that it appeared to be an isolated issue, and at this point, that is exactly what it seems like. The "small box" issue, on the other hand, is absolutely NOT an isolated issue. I share your frustration that Logos hasn't done much to acknowledge the issue. Tongue Tied

Wasn't expecting this so soon.  Was using Logos Mac tonight and update popped up.  Installed and read about the Notes Tool.  I think I brought it up under Tools, but, I have a separate pane called "Untitled Notes".  Now to figure out how to use it.  I have not experienced any problems using either the Windows or Mac Version, but, I am not a power user, at least not yet.

You create a new note file via the file menu [File - New- Notes], and new ones are called "Untitled Notes." Highlights are stored in note files as well. Are you familiar with how that works?

Understand frustration and desire for Logos 4 Mac to just work.

Apologies: unable to replicate Mac crashing since Logos 4.6 installed on Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Windows 7.

Caveat: a previous Morph Search was effectively unusable in Logos 4.6 on my iMac since drop down choices were not appearing:

Opened Morph Search in Logos 4.6 on Windows, changed Morph Search settings (drastically reduced stuff in passage list), sync, switch to Logos 4 Mac, sync, resulted in usable Morph Search again.

Different "modern" software in my workplace caused me similar grief today; tried to export data, but received an error message instead.  Vendor recently released a version upgrade and changed their licensing so free is only for personal use.

Keep Smiling Smile
