Hi Everyone,
I am looking for a good commentary to use in my study time.
I am wary to grab just any old one off the shelf and thought I would ask what all of you would recommend.
Thanks.
Broc,
Are you looking for commentaries on individual books of the Bible or are you looking for commentaries that cover the entire Bible in one or two volumes?
Alain
While it should not be true, what one thinks of as a good commentary depends upon your theological bent. If you're just starting out you may want to use a single volume commentary. If you want a more substantial scholarly commentary I would recommend Hermenia or, with less enthusiasm Anchor.
If you're just starting out you may want to use a single volume commentary.
I would recommend the Bible Knowledge Commentary.
I like the New Ammerican Commentary series. Also the IVP Bible Background Commentary and the IVP NT series has been helpful to me.

Yes, if you want to read the commentary on the whole Bible, Bible Knowledge Commentary is very good. Of course, it depends on the theological background you stand on. In my opinion highly anticipated NICOT/NICNT series is excellent for much deeper reading on the individual Bible books. From the existing sets in the Libronix format, the Word Biblical Commentary series is very well balanced, in my opinion. You might get some good insight on the existing commentaries here. You will find there a lot of reviews and ratings. Also the information about if the commentary is available in Logos.
