Force a theology and Logos 4 OLL

I'm surprised that Logos has narrowed down their offers! Now there's no equivalent base-package to OLL anymore. The optional base-packages are either sort of stripped down, or contain lots of books I'm sure I wouldn't read and which are not tempting even if the price would be lower. I wouldn't even care about the search results from them. Sure You can hide books, that solves a part of the problem - but the bottom line is that I'm reluctant to pay for what I don't want.

By "sort of" I mean for example that now they offer more Bibles. But You see: I'm not interested in ANY of those additional Bibles! Except NA28 NT.

I have 2 Logos 4 base-packages: Original Languages and Catholic Foundations Library. I doubt that BOTH are taken into consideration in the dynamic pricing of the upgrades? I've already paid twice for some item by buying two base-packages (sure, that was my choice), so it would be nice with a better discount. I'm not so eager to email customer service and negotiate, I don't have all that much money anyway - I'm saving my money for other things such as a moped-car.

I'm interested in Anabaptist resources, for example: individual believer's church bible commentary -volumes (I just haven't decided yet witch ones, and I've noted that on my request they've lowered the prices for some of the titles which I'm grateful for), and: Anabaptist and Mennonite Studies Collection (16 vols.)

... The Logos 5 Platinum base-package has the Believers Church Bible Commentary (24 vols.).

I have the Hermeneia-set, Biblical Performance Criticism Series (4 vols.) and Learn to Use Biblical Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software. Plus one International Critical Commentary -volume and the 1992 Good News Translation.

Additionally I'm considering these purchaces: Ben Witherington III Collection (5 vols.), John Huss Collection (7 vols.) community pricing pre-order, Popular Patristics Series, Part 1 (10 vols.)

Logos tell us that they absolutely are.

Even before the release of L5 you should not have had to this - it is one of the principles of Logos that you do not have to purchase a resource twice.

Cross-grade offers are coming so you will be able to choose to move to L5 and only get the resources that allow you to get a greater functionality from your existing books if you wish. I don't think that you will have to wait too long.

So this would suggest the best option for you would be to go with either the free engine upgrade or the minimal crossgrade when they become available.

So it would make sense to spend your funds there.

What do I miss when it comes to Gk if I just wait for the free engine upgrade and don't want to pay ANYTHING extra? Considering that being a Logos-user is sort of a lifetime-commitment or even beyond (if I have any kids that stay in touch or I have a good younger friend to give my account to before I die), there will be many version upgrades before death and subsequent considerations how much to pay.

I'll be studying Gk in a secular uni. I'll see how much I'll study, difficult to decide that in advance, but it will roughly be equivalent to second-year Gk, at least. I higher base-package would give all the functionality, I doubt the minimal crossgrade would be worth it?

OK, but I'm still quite unsure whether Platinum would add especially much functionality and usefull titles!!

If you go for the free engine upgrade and nothing else then you don't get access to the new features and datasets which are available in L5.

Probably the most significant of these with reference to your studies are the Bible Sense Lexicon and the Clause Search capability. You also won't have access to the Referent Data among other things

To get an overview of what these - and other data sets - provide go to the Data Sets section at http://www.logos.com/upgrade, hover your cursor over each set and you will get a popup with some information.

Alternatively go to http://www.logos.com/features# and click on the "New Features" and "Enhanced Features" to find out some more.

Sorry I missed this one.

BDAG is included in Platinum upwards.

Updates to BDAG (like any other resources) which correct typos or update links will happen free of charge.

If a completely new and updated version of this resource is released I would expect this to be seen as a new product and would need to be purchased again - but that is speculation

It's a bit surprising that Logos hasn't come out with the 2007 3rd revised Ed. of the:The Apostolic Fathers: Greek Texts and English Translations by Michael W. ... and that it's not included. I suppose that is the best version. I'm guessing that the reason is that since so many have an old version (about 100 years old), this new 2007 version wouldn't sell all that much and the 1999 edition of it would not add to the attractiveness of the base-packages, if included?

I really didn't mind when OLL went 'poof' though 'upgrading' to 'Bronze' looked like an exercise in visiting an older musty library.

But with the 'crossgrade' I think the new approach will be a lot better. The older OLL had few 'keepers', with most that needed replacement (eg Concise HALOT) etc.

The new way you can pick and choose what you need, plus buy what Logos calls 'the content'. More similar to Accordance, which I'm also looking forward to.

Yeah. I'm not so worried yet. I could as well wait a year and see if the base-packages are on a sale again. I have been buying regularely during this ongoing year, plus just got a big order of printed matter, so I have enough to read.

I'm reading somewhat advanced commentaries, but when it comes to languages I haven't progressed far, I'm studying grammar generally (in a local language and a bit of English grammar), Latin and Gk. I won't start in uni until Fall 2013, sooner would be impossible since I'm not even done with high-school.

(After I've started in uni, I will still have to go to adult-tuition high-school courses that I will have to pay for because I live in the wrong municipality, to read more Science to prepare for college engineer studies.)

I'm fine with using older books. For example I'm using a 1937 version of 1 Clem and I think it's fine. I wouldn't "boost" my OLL with BDAG unless my senior lecturer makes me. I don't want newest and absolutely best of everything because I know I would waste my money if I would want to.

It's a shame that the Gk audio New Testament isn't included - I guess that they just want to tantalise us with even higher base-packages, but enough is enough.

Well, you're sure correct on the apostolic fathers. I think I'm stuck in the 60's with all the books I'm currently reading.

I sometimes wonder if a time period favored various areas of Christian books. Maybe the scholars or something worked together at the time.

I think it would be good if You could fully customise what Bible versions You want. When I originally bought OLL I was very glad it contained very few versions that I really didn't want (such as NIV 2011 just to take one example, or NKJV, Message and HCSB as other examples). It seems strange to me why Logos would want to promote for example the ESV - it has been included in all base-packages for quite some time. One version that I originally didn't use, which I've since started to use for some (less important) parts of the Bible, is the 1995 NASU.

I wouldn't expect a whole lot of discount when customising like that, but it would be nice!

Also, if You could drop for example 2 titles of Your choice among everything from the base-package You intend to buy, it would be really decent! The current choices are so black-and-white: Evangelical or Catholic.

Given that you have a Catholic package: have you considered a Catholic upgrade instead? Less fluff and probably more that interests you than in Platinum.
