search results confined to within one verse??

I've noticed that if I search for two words in either a bible search or a morphological search WITHIN, or BEFORE, or NEAR, that I will not find any results that do not occur within the same verse. For example I wanted to find all the places where hoti and eidotes were used together. I was looking at 1Thess 1:4,5. Hoti is in verse 5 eidotes is in verse 4. I could not seem to be able to search for these two words in any kind of proximity that would yield these two verses as a result. Is there a setting in the progam I can change to allow this type of search.

Hi Lee - and welcome to the forums.

In a Bible search, proximity (and Boolean) operators are constrained to a single verse so this explains what you are seeing.

If you did a Basic search, the constraint is larger (I believe a chapter) but the results are less helpful for what you are trying to do.

Yes, unfortunately Logos sees fit to put human traditions above the Word of God. I have some serious theological issues with that, besides that it's a nuisance.

One day I will create a Uservoice item for this, if it hasn't been done already.

Shouldn't be a problem if he uses WITHIN or BEFORE X WORDS, should it?

Though unfortunately there are chapter boundaries that also come in the middle of a thought.

Yes, unfortunately Logos sees fit to put human traditions above the Word of God. I have some serious theological issues with that, besides that it's a nuisance.

It's a technical decision, not a theological one. I agree that it's a nuisance, though. For AND and OR searches, we expect for it to return results within the same verse, but for NEAR or WITHIN xx WORDS we don't.

There will be no "improvement" to text searches. Syntax Search doesn't have these limitations and you could search within a Clause

I don't think it unreasonable that Logos consider ignoring verse/chapter/article boundaries for proximity searches. That's what most users expect.
