I'm still not seeing how to compile Sermon Files under L5. I'm in the PBB tool, but I don't see a "Sermon" type.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

You may use "monograph" (the catch-all type) or anything that suits you better - if you e.g. preach from the bible in verse by verse ongoing style and want the document to flow with a bible, use "bible commentary". The point is the table for the index.

You can find more information about sermon PBs and how to make that index here:

http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4.6a

There are sample documents available here:

I'm getting it better now. So basically when I create a "Sermon File", I need to Type the title in the first line of the document, then add the table below, and Logos will automatically add that information to the index, correct?

Then set book type as Monograph or anything I desire.

I was looking for a "Sermon" or "Illustration" type. :-)

Also, can you have multiple sermons in a single Logos Personal Book?

Yes. Just add another table after the previous sermon.

Just to reconfirm: You should!

Since the Sermon File feature is all about managing sermons and accessing them based on the date/location/scripture/speaker/topic, the value is in the automated indexes built by the Logos PB compiler. These indexes work per resource, aggregating the data over the Word file(s) you use to build it. Thus it makes most sense to put all of the sermons into one file or adding a file every week and rebuilding the PB.

You will find a sample file with multiple sermons here and Steve Clark made a Word macro to automate creating the table.

I am probably missing a step, but am not getting my Personal Books to index correctly into Logos 5.

The book on the right is a sermon on Romans 12:13; the book on the left is a compilation of sermons on Romans 12. However, the book of compiled sermons doesn't index as completely as the book with only one sermon (tho all the sermons are there; you just can't click on a link in the index to go to them). Is there a better way to put all my sermons in one file and have a nice complete index? I have tried several ways to accomplish this but get the same results.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Are they each a separate word document?

Does each one of the compiled sermons include its' own "syntax table" ?

And does that table appear in each document somewhere near the front [but NOT at the very first--ie eg is it at least located after the title ]?

Steve, the compiled sermons are separate word docs and the syntax table appears just after the title in each document.

By the way, I appreciate all the work you have done on this and the time you have taken to help others.

Daniel,

if you don't mind, would you share the docs with us so we can check where the issues are? You may take out much of the bulk text if you wish, but where the stuff is in the table and potentially some formatting of the table maybe an issue here.

Mick, I have attached 4 sermons that have the syntax dialog box at the beginning of the sermon. I hope this is what you meant.

7041.Romans Sermons for Logos Forum 2.docx

1663.Romans Sermons for Logos Forum 3.docx

Thank you!

Your docx files look fine. I would have done it that way also. [Except that I use a lot of ,H2,H3 headings etc to generate a TOC - Table of Contents--I save H1 for the title of each sermon--that always makes a specific "visual" break within the Table of Contents The following short example only uses a H1 title and a number of H2s for  TOC entries.]   5050.very short.docx

Did you by any chance have an "indexer" failure or shutdown?

Lately my indexer has been acting up-(and quitting without leaving any Logos log/error messages).

,,,just doing a "we should get back to windows about this problem" etc.

I think that the indexer does have to work each time one of these resources is compiled.

If it is not working properly, that might cause this problem?

During the beta testing I had some results like yours. I  was doing some experiments, and put the syntax table at the end of the docx file.It did exactly what yours are doing. (But that is obviously not the cause here.)

Perhaps someone else has another idea?

*Apology: I cannot put these into my own PBB tool as Logos is re-downloading all of my library again--It appears to be caused by the indexer failure--and perhaps my Windows User profile, [although I have just gone through the entire process of  re-formatting my HD and done a clean instal of both W7 and of L4]

To my knowledge my indexer is working fine and I have not noticed any other problems. If I make one book per sermon everything looks good; just can't compile 2 or more sermons and have them index properly. Thanks for looking at this for me.

Excellent. Thanks for the info. I'll give it a spin sometime when I have a free moment and see how it all goes.

Yes, perfect. Now I see. Actually, your screenshot would have given it away on a closer look - and Steve was on the right track and rode it nearly to the solution...

You saw that the Logos compiler picked ut all the nice tags, dates etc but missed linking it to any but your first sermon? That's because you don't use a Heading style at all. Obviously the compiler is nice and assumes the very first line in the first file to be a Heading - but actually they all were standard text (larger text, formatted bold just looks like it to human eyes). All I did was making the first line of the four files into Heading 1 and bingo! it works like a charm.

Hope this helps,

Mick

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Even though I use Word I have never really used the Headings to make my documents. I will try to do that from now on. This is a huge help to me. Blessings to both you and Steve for taking the time to help me.

Grace and peace,
