I suppose I should have listened to the Oklahoma kid.
But it was only with today's blog that I checked the 'small' Archaeology bundle and it has the 2 AY (yep, it's true) archaeology books I've wanted FOREVER (they were carefully tucked away in the AY bundle that I couldn't justify).
Whoopy!! (Though it's taking 'forever' to download ... looks like 1/2g just for 6 books. MANY pictures!!
I noticed that too... sshhhh... don't say it too loud, it's the only bundle where it's like that.

This is the exact reason why I purchased the Archaeology bundle! These two resource are really good.
Using adventure and community to challenge young people to continually say "yes" to God
Ditto! According to Todd Bolen at Bibleplace.com (who is the source for several photo sets available within Logos), the two AY archaeology works available in the current bundle sale are gold standard resources. FWIW, there's a third book in that AY "series" now available--Alexander to Constantine: Archaeology of the Land of the Bible, by Eric M. Meyers and Mark A. Chancey. This book is NOT yet available in Logos, but it is out. Thought you'd want to know...
Appreciate the heads-up, Ted ...

That is good to know. I look forward to Logos picking it up.
Hey kids, remind (and reassure!) me please... I'm thinking of purchasing one of the bundles.. but I know for sure I have some of the resources (i.e. Ramsay for instance). At what point will Logos realize it and calculate the discount... I don't want to have to charge my credit card if I'm not going to get as much of a discount as I'd like... so is it safe for me to go ahead and start clicking on the "Extra Large" without worrying about getting charged 300 bucks?
Thanks!

Denise, you are quite right... IMHO, these are the premiere titles being offered among Logos' sales this year.... the real "treasures". I have also wanted the titles you mentioned for a long time, but they were locked up in the bundle that was crazy expensive. Having them released from imprisonment in the small archaeology bundle was a real Christmas present. The two volumes are considered now to be THE standard intros to biblical archaeology for their respective time periods.I thought about giving the forums a heads up when they came up, but never got around to it. Sorry! I also have been eagerly awaiting the release of the third volume in Logos from the first day the print edition was released. Hope it comes soon! Reading Romans in Pompei is also a worthy title... the author takes a creative and illustrative approach.
Also, I want to give a heads up for the Koester title (Cities of Paul) in the medium bundle. For me at least, the price increase from small to medium was not great (my price for the small bundle was about $61, and the medium $115). The Koestner title is very worthwhile for the price. there are higher resolution pics available, IMHO (I've heard reports that the pics in this volume have a bit of a scanned look to them)... but there is quite a lot of useful material in here for teaching (diagrams, drawings, etc.). The medium bundle also includes the book on Judahite burial practices, which really looks to be quite good and well worth the price (normally, something like $32 if I recall). Koestner's title alone is usually quite expensive (normally, that's $100 in itself), whether as an ebook or in print. So the medium bundle is also a really good value (the urbanization title is of little interest to me).
IMHO, the bundle prices rather decrease in value from there if you already have the Ramsay collection (in itself HIGHLY valuable if you don't already own them). The three titles of the large collection are somewhat interesting to me, but overpriced I think. The arguments given in the Tel Dan title sound very solid on the surface... but have been largely rejected by most scholars (the author comes from the minimalist school, so that exercises an influence upon him in rejecting the accepted reading of the inscription. He is not an expert in the specific areas in question, so he is less qualified to pass judgment on the many scholars who are and who have favored the excavator's reading). But it's interesting if you want to be informed about the debate. But by and large, the medium bundle seems pricey, and leans towards minimalism. SO it wasn't worth it for me.
The extra large bundle includes some great Ramsay titles, but otherwise is largely composed of the Travels in Bible Lands collection... which has ALWAYS been overpriced, and remains so, I feel, in this bundle. Layard's and Tristam's volumes are worthwhile additions to one's library, but the others are pretty obscure and seem of limited interest, other than simply an interesting fireside travelogue from days gone by... which has its place, of course. But for me, not at the asking price.
So, oddly, it seems like the value of the archaeology bundle is inverted... with the greatest value in the small bundle and decreasing as the bundles get larger.
PS... Carmen... your personal discounted price should already be displayed for you on the product information page for each bundle if you are signed in on the website.

TIP: You can always double check the discount calculator by using two browsers (i.e. Firefox and Chrome). Make sure you are NOT signed into Logos on one… that should let you know what the standard price of the package is.

Well, Emile, I took your good advice. The price of almost every single book in the next level was equal to the whole level (for me).
What sold me was the urban book. I'm curious about the difference in Israel captivity counts for the initial Samaria Assyrians vs the captivity count for the Judean Assyrians (with the theory being the difference in urban concentrations). I also notice in the cover picture in BAR 5.6 that the captives were women/children; no men, and well dressed (according to New York standards in 2012 anyway; a minor time-difference).
I'll probably wait for Christmas to settle down before downloading them. Yesterday's download was pretty molassas-y.
SSSSTTTTOOOPPPPP IT!!! OK. I just bought the bundle. Sigh. I tried so hard not to spend money but the case for buying the bundle was made so strongly in this thread my control went out the window! Thanks for helping me see the light!!
Denise, are you refering to the Yehud demographics title? That sounds like what you mean... and if I recall correctly that is the the XL bundle. A good title if you're interested in such a thing. The urban title I was referring to was the one in the M bundle... I didn't have much interest in that for the most part, and that is the title I referred to in my post.
I also am waiting to download my Dec. purchases until things calm down a bit. I have the archaeology bundle, L5 MC, and maybe a dozen other titles lined up, and my internet here is abyssmal unless I head into town. I'll need to find a day when I can free up my schedule, head into town, and settle in for a LONG download, I think. After all the bruhaha of the holidays dies down on Logos' servers.
But in any case, glad to "unearth" a few titles of interest for you. In general, the archaeology bundles really have some great deals.
(PS... sorry Garrett! )
CORRECTION... I now note in my first post above, in which I gave my opinions of the various bundle levels, that I made a typo... just to clarify... the LARGE bundle seemed pricey to me, not the medium. I think the medium (and small) are really good deals. The titles in the large bundle tend to be of the minimalist school, and in any case are quite expensive normally (about a Benjamin each). For me, even with the discount and bundled, they seemed "expensive", but being that it was (for me) just UNDER an additional Benjamin ($100) for the Large if I'd chosen to add it on top of the Medium collection, you could argue that it would have been a good deal... I would have essentially gotten the other titles of the bundle for free. But my interest wasn't that great due to the minimalist approach, and I felt I should give that amount to missions instead.
The XL bundle has a lot of Ramsay (which I own), the Travels in Bible Lands set (interesting, but I didn't want to pay that much for it. Will probably one day buy Layard's and Tristram's titles individually). Denise has pointed out the Yehud demographics monograph. I can see where that could be interesting, but prob. more for the specialist (otherwise, prob. rather dry). I am waiting instead for Yamauchi's Persia and the Bible title from the Baker Academic collection. That will prob. satisfy my taste for Yehud studies.
@ Alabama24: BRILLIANT! Thanks! I'll do that from now on...
Please try not to be too cryptic in your posts...I figured out that AY was Anchor Yale but there is no clue from the Logos descriptions which 2 those were. Google came to the rescue on that.BUT for those of us who are interested in learning and adding to our libraries, a bit more description in the post would have been worthwhile.
And thanks for the advice, I probably will pick up the small bundle.
Everybody is aware (aren't you?) that the Master Bundle XL has a significant discount over all the XL bundles put together.....
I added up all the Xl (or L, if it was the largest available) bundles and they were very much higher than the Master Bundle XL. The savings rate is like getting a double discount! It is very telling to run the numbers on all the bundles. The sleeper in the Christmas sale is the Master Bundle XL.
12 days of Christmas? Bah ! Humbug !

Thanks for the heads up on this. I ended up getting the medium theology bundle also. The downside is I'm going to have to cull some of the bids in community pricing.
