I am wondering how do I go about finding articles written by a certain author (such as Bill Hall) in Christianity Magazine? Also, how do I find articles on a certain subject, such as baptism? I have Logos 4.
There should be able to search through the use of collections. I believe Christianity Magazine can be found under collections. Then you can search for author or subject.
Thanks. Now if I can figure out how to use Collections!
I don't have that resource, so I can't check, but if Christianity Magazine is set up as a series (which most magazines and journals in Logos are -- check the Series column in your Library beside the volumes of this magazine), then you don't need to create a collection first. You can simply search within the series Christianity Magazine. Series are listed in the "Search in" dropdown menu in the Search tab (by default it's "Entire Library" but you can select something else here; if you start typing in "Christianity Magazine" in the edit box of the dropdown menu, you can find it quickly to select it from the list).
Then to restrict to articles by Bill Hall, it depends on whether that resource has been tagged with article authors. You can tell by dropping down the Search menu that says "All Text" -- it'll have some Search Fields listed, and if "Article Author" is one of those fields, you can check that box, then let the menu drop back up again. Then type "Bill Hall" as your search text.
You can't combine a search for an author's name with a search for a subject, so you can't find all articles by Bill Hall about baptism. But to search for baptism in Christianity Magazine, you'd just type in baptism (and leave all the Search Field checkboxes unchecked).
If you want to limit it to ones that mention baptism in their title (and thus are more likely to really be about baptism, as opposed to just mentioning the word in an offhand way), then you can try the "Large Text" search field. Most article titles are not tagged as such, but most of them are formatted with larger text than the body text of the article, and this field will cause Logos to find them.
A shorthand for searching in the Large Text field is to prefix your search term with largetext: (with no intervening space) so in this case, you'd search for largetext:baptism.

Thanks. It took me a while to figure it out but you pointed me in the right direction and was a big help. Thanks again. I will be taking a look at the links on collections in the next few days. Thanks again for your help.
