I think we need these in Logos:

The Story of Christianity
Justo L. Gonzalez
HarperCollins

A History of Christianity, Volumes 1 & 2
Kenneth S. Latourette
HarperCollins

A History of Christian Thought, Volumes 13
Justo L. Gonzalez
Abingdon Press

Note that the the first two are both from HarperCollins, and they are in fact available as a bundle on CBD.com for 23 dollars. I'd be willing to pay a little more for an Logos version.

Good suggestion. I second that. (I always thought we have Kenneth Latourette in Logos already. May be I confused it with my paper version.

No, I don't think so. I actually suggested that very same set about 5 years ago. That particular suggestion didn't exactly garner a lot of enthusiasm at the time. In the mean time I don't recall ever seeing or hearing about any Latourette  offerings from Logos.

I sure do like the suggestion though. I don't know anything about the other two that are mentioned but, what the heck, put me down as in favor of all three. History is one area of study where Logos could stand to do a little catch-up.

Yours in Christ

John

Jaroslav Pelikan which is more recent than Latourette would be a good addition.

I agree.

But to have both would be better.

And to have Latourette would be better than nothing if Pelikan is difficult to license.

I "hated" Latourette in seminary...had a church history class at 7:00 am and even though I really, really, really like history...7:00 am and Latourette was NOT a good combination...but since then, I've really come to appreciate his words.  Bring it on, Logos!

Good for you Smile.

I the past, since the emperor Franz Joseph had a hard time to sleep in the morning, all the work in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire had to start at 6:00 a.m. I don't know about other post-Habsburgian countries, but It worked here in Czechia till the fall of the communism Smile.

I would add to the ones mentioned already:

The Pilgrim Church, E.H. Broadbent, 1931. It is not a Church history in a classical meaning of the word, but the way Broadbent is following all the streams of Christianity which had not been part of the official Church, however very instrumental in keeping the true testimony of Christ through the ages. I would love to see that book in Logos.

Also A History of the Church: from Pentecost to the Present from James B. North, 1983, would be great. I found it the most readable history book, of course it is very concise.

I also like the suggestion of a Church History suite of books.  the above mentioned book, while perhaps little known, I have found to be very helpful in tracing small movements which have attempted to keep the Bible as their guide, the belief that the true church is one,  and that the true church is pilgrim in character/nature.

North's "A History of the Church:..." is an excellent selection. I have it in my paper library. It is very dog-eared and has many highlighter marks and MANY handwrittin notes. Buhuslav, you shouldn't keep bringing all of these suggestions to the forefront...now I'll have to buy them in Logos format and then spend a lot of time bringing my notes, etc., from the hard copy to the Logos book...and I don't have the time to do that... ;). Too much good stuff.

Yes, Logos should find the way how to get our notes and highlights from the paper books to the libronix version. By the way, we are in the suggestions forum, aren't we... Smile

It is amazing how a 7am class can influence a young student's interests. All my Greek classes met then. Sleep

I'd like all the titles and one more: Christianity Through the Centuries by Earle Cairns..

Yes, I agree. I like it very much as a reference book. I never read it as a whole book however.

Guess I too will just have to keep that dog-eared 30 year old book on my shelf.     I should have looked at the publisher first.  Sad
