Logos 4 Mac Alpha 6 Release Notes
Here's Alpha 6. The app should auto update, but you can always download the latest release from: http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LBS4MacInstaller/Logos4Mac.dmg
In the last release we did a bit more stability work, in this release, we tried to do some polish to the user interface. As always, it's a work in progress, but we hope you are inspired by the progress.
Without further ado, here are release notes:
Logos 4 Mac – Alpha 6 Change Log
Search
• Search results display has been cleaned up. Line heights are more consistent and super and subscripts display in the same font as the search result text.
• Resource selection drop downs in search is more like the Windows product.
• Bible search defaults to verse results since other views are not implemented yet. The view selection might show another view selected if you have preferences synced from Windows.
Home Page
• Home page toolbar is partially implemented. You can now select your preferred bible. If you expand the home page window, you will see the placeholders for the other tools.
Guides
• Bible Word Study guide has labels. There is still a known issue with the text display of the “Greek Words” section where Greek words overlap the English labels.
Context Menu
• Context menu style was cleaned up.
Miscellaneous
• Display of text in hover tips in resources is cleaned up. Line heights and fonts are more consistent.
• Other miscellaneous bug fixes, stability improvements and memory leak fixes.
Known issues:
• Closing tab panels sometimes causes the app to hang, particularly with Guides. This is a bug with a third party open source framework we are using. We are working with the open source community to resolve this bug.

Downloaded fine, indexed fine. Crashed on searching the world behold in the NASB95 bible. Restarted, now the search runs, but the results pull up non-matching verses.

Ok, searches are coming back incorrectly. Just searched on the word Peter and only two hits in NASB, 7 in ESV, etc. Plus, everytime I click on the verse button, logos crashes.

Keeps getting better. One issue that's common, and it was on the previous releases as well...when I click on a commentary in the passage guide sometimes it opens a tab in the normal commentary panel (bottom one), but sometimes it also opens a tab in the Bible Versions panel (top one).

Terry,
It looks like your indexes are corrupt. Did you copy them from Windows, or were they built with L4 Mac?
Unfortunately, there's no way to fix them, other than to rebuild them. To force reindexing, you'll need to delete the original indexes.
You'll need to delete the files in your Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/<some_random_characters>/LibraryIndex/ folder which is under your Home folder in finder. Then, next time you restart the app, the indexer will restart.

They were built under L4 Mac. Not a problem, that is why it is called an Alpha. One question, were they corrupted before the A6 upgrade? I just answered my own question by restoring to before the upgrade and seeing the same problem. Files deleted, re-indexing. Is there an easy way to monitor the re-indexing process in Mac like there is in Windows version?

They might have been. I have seen some commits recently that fixed some potential bugs in the indexer, but I couldn't be sure if those were the issue or not. Hopefully, post A5 indexing will not be as painful as previous versions.

Terry,
In talking with some of the other developers, there was a bug in Windows 4.01 beta 2 that could corrupt indexes. Since we're sharing the same code base, it crept into Alpha 5. In the next alpha, there will be a "Rebuild index" command so that you won't have to manually delete your indexes. Or if you just like indexing, you can reindex whenever you wish. As I understand it, this bug is not present in Alpha 6.
Just FYI.

I knew all my problems could be blamed on windows [6]Tom Philpot said:there was a bug in Windows 4.01 beta 2 that could corrupt indexes.
PS
no Windows users or developers were physically harmed in the writing of this post. All efforts have been made to ensure there were no human rights violations in making this jest. All complaints should be sent directly to Bill Gates. :-)

No not to Bill Gates it has to be sent to Monkey Boy (Steve Ballmer) here is a link to his classic Monkey Boy scene at the developers conference http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvsboPUjrGc

If he hadn't said he loved the company at the end, I could have believed that he was hopping mad that he couldn't have a Mac [:D]

Not seeing the "Little blue logos 4 logo" in the bar as when I first tried installing. Am I missing something? I wiped out the directories earlier and tried a new, clean install with A6.

I guess you are missing the little blue icon ;-)Todd Ruddell said:"Little blue logos 4 logo" in the bar as when I first tried installing. Am I missing something?
Seriously though, if this is not working, start a new thread and try to post your logs. Sometimes they have info even though the install does not go right. This is the only way to really get the techs to help out.

I have a problem with A6. After downloading and launching, I noticed the installer was still in the background, apparently operating. Got an update error and now the interface no longer shows the preferred bible. It did when I initially launched. I've included a screenshot of what I'm seeing on the home page. Will send you the log file in a separate post. Thanks.

Kevin,
If you expand your window, you will see the preferred bible tool has moved to the end of the list (after Lectionary). This is the same behavior as the windows product (since it's really the same code). We just don't have the scroll buttons that allow you to see that the home page has other items on it. We're working on getting those scroll buttons added, but they will be in a future release.
Thanks,
Tom

Ah, the old "expand the window until the resource is visible ploy." [:$] Thank you, Tom!
BTW, is there a way to open Logos as an expanded window? Again, thanks.

Interestingly enough, I was just asked that question over lunch today by one of our Sales guys. Right now the answer is "Not yet". I think we default to 1024x768 pixels when the app launches. It will be fixed in a future release though.

I don´t know what happened to to me, but the only thing I know is that I used to have the "preferred Bible" option, but I don´t any more.

Felipe,
You have to widen the window and then you'll see it.
