Unix living in celibacy:

Clarification: The annoying images are not uploaded by me, they are occasional thumbnails below my image.

Lynden Williams:
Sent you a message on Faithlife.

I've not heard porn referred to as "annoying images" before. Why don't you use something like blogger or squidoo instead? Your sig - or more to the point where it leads to - has no place in this forum

I would go one step further. I don't think claims of being a eunuch living in celibacy are pertinent to the conversation.

Brothers & sisters, can we get back on topic?

Dan Pritchett:
What problems would it create?

I don't have a book budget per se, only a budget of $1,250 in "professional expenses" that include ALL professional expenses for the year--not just books. Because it's set up for IRS purposes as an accoutable reimbursement account, on the surface it doesn't look like I'd be able to show how my expenditure each month matches a receipt for goods.... which in turn would make this plan an out-of-pocket expense & have the effect of limiting my ability to participate.

(In our household budget, my personal discretionary income for EVERYTHING I want that isn't part of the household budget is only $50 per month. While I did use that to invest in an upgrade to Silver, I can count on one hand--with more than half the fingers left over--the times I've been able to afford anything at Logos by saving my "allowance.")

Most other pastors in churches as small as mine (50+ in worship on Sundays) that I know have similar issues--and most don't own Logos at all.

Grace & Peace,
Bill

Best I can determine, Bill, it was just the brothers that got tangled up with the porn.

why there's no monthly charge associated with the "piggy bank"

Because Logos can collect interest on the money until it is spent?;

This is a great idea... esp if it is a way to receive "gifts" Smile

Kelvin Niblett:

I really like this idea!

One of the other things I would really like from Logos is a way to buy and recieve credit.

For example my parents may want to give me something for Christmas/Birthday.

If I could tell them a voucher or a credit for my Logos account that would be Awesome!!

This would provide a natural increase in sales for Logos too as people can gift credit to loved ones who may not be big buyers.

Just an idea

Yes - I love the idea (and the name) and I also LOVE the idea of purchasing credit for someone else (like a gift card). My Pastor uses a Free library (that is actually very good and most here would instantly recognize it if I named it e.S.).

I would love to purchase Logos for him (maybe with some financial support from other church members) and would love to be able to give him a gift code, or something like, so he can choose his package and customize as he would like.

I personally love this idea. I had hoped that it would have been implemented by now. However, I'm not on a book budget as a lot of people are nor am I in ministry where I am held accountable for what I buy or claim for tax purposes. For someone like me who just wants to buy the occasional large commentary without his wife giving a stern lecture about being responsible with the money, this would be perfect. I deposit $30 a payday, the wife doesn't mind and I eventually have that $2,000 commentary set that everybody highly recommends.

I'm seeing some good input here, thanks for thinking through the issues with us.

What about the name? Any ideas?

I'd suggest NOT using the word "pastors" in the name, as it may cause many to think "this isn't for me," when it obviously fits the needs of a great variety of folks... perhaps Personal Piggy Bank or Prepaid Book Budget?

I agree with Bill about not using the word Pastor. I envision something on the drop down list under my name when signed into Logos. It already has buttons for "My Orders" "Account Settings" etc. We could simply have another button titled as simple as "My Credits". When a person clicks on the My Credits button it will take them to a new page that has all of the details on how it works plus your available credit amount. For someone who does not know about the credit program, just seeing the button might interest them enough to click on it and see what it is about. For those of us who already know, it is a quick and easy short cut.

Definitely do NOT use "Pastor" "Preacher" or anything like that in the title.

Tolle Lege Fund (aka: Take Up and Read Fund). A brief explanation would need to accompany the name ...

Another issue: Will we have access to this money? Can we make withdrawals?

This is basically an alternative to a savings account at my bank. If I have a financial emergency I can take the money in my bank savings account which I had originally set aside for Logos and direct it towards more pressing items.

Under what circumstances would Logos allow withdraws? What would the process for a withdrawal be?

Personally, I feel that the "piggy bank" idea would be a bear to administer both for Logos and the intended audience.

A simple time-tested idea which can be used to achieve the same objective is to offer gift vouchers for sale. It would just be a lock-in, though. No reverse charges or cash refunds as such.
