Layout slow to respond

One thing I've noticed about L5 is the amount of time it takes to open layouts when clicking on that tab.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Is there a way to speed it up?

What do you mean "clicking on that tab"? The thumbnail for the layout? Have you experimented with simple layouts vs. more complex ones?

Shhh ... Steven.   The layout tab is so slow that if you click on something else in the meantime it'll completely re-arrange your layout for you. (This is one of my gracefully crashing awards; if Logos fixes it, it'll set me back and then I can't win the competition).

Just joking ... sometimes I use the 'how far is the lightning' count to see just how long the tab takes. 100,001 ... 100,002 ... 100,0003 ... 100,0004 ... 100,005 ... 100,006 ... 100,0007 ... 100,0008 ...

I would think that by the amount of tabs that need to open in a layout and the connection[link] of one tab to another, that opening time can be a factor. So I have my L5 set to open to a blank screen and then go from there, aside for the already prearranged layouts. I think that the largest I have holds about 15 different resources, and it usually takes the longest to load.

you may consider having a favorites layout that allows for prearranged 'floating layouts', they tend to open a tad bit quicker, the down-side to that is that you cannot link them as the tabletop layouts can be......

Delete unused layouts (Snapshot, App Closed).

The first thing I noticed when upgrading from L4 to L5 (Windows) was the increased and excruciatingly long time it takes from clicking on the "Layouts" button until the dropdown list of layouts appears. And I have a fast i7 CPU and SSD. Seems like the programmer should be holding the list of layouts (47 in my case) in memory so that the list could be popped up instantly.

I'd assume anyone that does a decent amount of programming has wondered exactly would could take an i7 that long to do.

I'm no swifty, and I slurp up several hundred thumbnails in the same amount of time.

I have to figure it's in the database storage and image conversion. But still, just within Logos itself, it can load 20-30 resources faster than that.

Those little layout icons must be precious!

EDIT: I was just curious, so I went over to Sibellius 7 to see what the load time was for its layout thumbnails. There's approximately 25 and I didn't even get to count 1 lightning strike. I'd hate to think they keep them in memory in the off-chance they're typically used once every few days at best.

Same here. [BUT I do have a LOT of them!]

Since my move from L4 to L5 I think this is the last of the "slow" things...[that need to be fixed].

I do try to keep the many "most recently saved" snapshot "placeholders" deleted.

Steve,
For me, I never even look at the list of past snapshots in the right column. My only interest is in the left column, the list of named layouts I have created. Perhaps it is the snapshots which are the source of the delay.

In a recent thread, I detailed the risks of nutty ladies (actually just 1) quickly hitting the delete button going down the row of unneeded thumbnails, in hopes of overcoming the developer's coding problems.

It's truly dangerous work. 'Not recommended for off-track drivers'.

D- I cant imagine that you actually know any nutty ladies... not even 1. Wink

I think I remember that thread... did deleting the thumbnail on the right actually delete the saved one on the left?

Absent looking at the thread, I had successfully deleted ALL of the icons (including named ones) until I got to the last one.

But there was some fluke that wouldn't let me delete the last one (the nutty lady pressing harder on the delete key!).

Luckily I only had 3 layouts and the 'last one' was the monster.

So recovery from the 'track-side pileup' wasn't difficult.  I think they've put in protective barriers since then.

They are. Delete all of them you don't need -- making very sure you don't delete any you do need. When I first tried that I got the response time down from maybe four seconds to less than one. Since then I delete every unnecessary one as soon as I see it.

This will be improved in 5.1 Beta 3.
