Hello all,

I updated logos 5 last night, and now all my standard fonts that my books are displayed in has changed. It's not really a complaint, as all the fonts look a little bit more crisp and eye popping - but it certainly took some time getting used to last night.

Did this happen for anyone else?

Hi Ben

Ben Hein:
I updated logos 5 last night

Do you mean you upgraded to Logos 5 for the first time last night or that you upgraded to a more updated version?

The reason I ask is that the default font did change in L5 - see http://community.logos.com/forums/t/58050.aspx for a discussion of this - but if you have already been using Logos 5 for some time I would have expected you to have seen that change earlier.

Thanks for the response.

I've been using it for quite some time (upgraded almost right after it came out). My fonts just changed last night.

The changes are a bit hard to describe. My UBS4 font is a little bit smaller, but looks less "hand written" and is more bold and crisp. The text in my regular books seems to be darker. Again, I suppose it'll be a benefit in the long run, I just wasn't expecting it.

My Logos5 fonts changed considerably a couple of days ago but it was related to a W7/64 update (which might have been needed for the L5 change).

Interesting, do you know what that was? My W7/64 updated yesterday too.

Is it possible you installed IE10? IE10 updates the underlying DirectWrite technology in Windows 7, which Logos 5 uses to display text. It's possible it could look slightly different due to this update.

Hi Bradley-

No idea what was updated a couple days ago. I don't use IE so unless that is included in Windows update then no. I just know Logos updated (probably just updates to some of my texts), and Windows also updated. Sounds like it had something to do with my 64bit windows 7 update.

Don't really know what I updated in W7/64 ... I mainly update on the Lenovo side and now and then on the W7 side. I made sure the IE10 was not 'checked' and indeed IE9 is still my browser. But that wouldn't prevent some type of underlying look/feel to be updated.

Personally I like it; I'd earlier compared the font-look in Libronix to the previous washed-out look in Logos4/5 and concluded un-expertly that the handling of the vertical portions of the font was different in L4/5. Now I'll have to get out the geology glass again and un-expertly see what changed.

Hey guys,

If you're not using IE10 and noticed font changes, this article may prove helpful: http://www.logos.com/support/logos5/windows/font-cache

Looks like Microsoft released a Platform Update (separately from IE10) that updates DirectWrite: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2670838

This is almost certainly the cause of the font changes that you're seeing.
