It would be great to have 18 Words by J.I. Packer in Logos. I know that it was suggested before as a part of a larger group of books in THIS thread a LONG time ago. Wink

I'm currently working on a complete list of J. I. Packer's works.  When I'm done, I'll post the list and would love to hear if I'm missing anything.  Once I have a complete list I hope to start working on getting the list into Logos.

Wow, that's a pretty complete list! I couldn't find any that you were missing. It takes a Regent grad! Smile

It would also be great if we could get Alister McGrath's J. I. Packer: A Biography (Baker, 1998), though it's a bit incomplete. Packer has gone on to live another 15 years after that was published, and is still ticking and even still teaching. However most of these last 15 years have been "more of same" apart from the fact that it will be missing info about his more recent books and some health issues.

Excellent news.

BTW, there are three additional columns of information from your post that not visible in my browser (FireFox and IE) -- Publisher, Year, and In-Logos.  I discovered this by copying your entire post and and pasting into another app (OneNote).

I ask that consideration be given to releasing partial collections of Packer's resources to avoid potential of long delays due to negotiations with 35+ publishers and conversion of 100+ works to Logos format.

Thanks.

Yes! Not to mention the fact that if all the works are bundled together in pre-pub it will take forever to get to 100%.

Thanks Rosie! Smile Though in all honesty, I owe most of the credit to Timothy George for his appendix of Packer's works in his book J. I. Packer and the Evangelical Future.

I have the McGrath book on my list!

I'm so impressed that Dr. Packer is still teaching (and I presume still taking the bus to and from Regent).  He is wonderfully humble and faithful man.  I am trying to contact him about getting an endorsement for Logos Anglican.  We'll see what happens.

Any "brilliance" on my part was purely accidental . . . however, thanks for nice comment.

BTW, if I still have your attention, in 2010 you mentioned that Packer is writing a Systematic Theology http://community.logos.com/forums/p/9201/73157.aspx#73157 . Do you have any update on that?

Thanks.

P.S. thanks for posting the links to Regent stuff from time to time.  I purchased and listened to Packer's theology A & B courses (~30 hours each), but have not seen the C term available yet.  The link you posted elsewhere for Packer teaching a short course on Corinthians this July is so tempting to attend in person (while he is still with us).

I haven't heard anything recently. I can ask my inside sources... :-)

I don't think Packer teaching the "Systematic Theology C" course was ever recorded. But it's been taught by Hans Boersma and that's one's available on audio: http://www.regentbookstore.com/product_details.php?item_id=67102&category_id=208

However, the whole series used to be divided up differently, into four parts instead of three. And there are audio versions of Packer teaching all of those:

Sys. Theol. I: The Knowledge of God - Revelation, Reason, Scripture and Theological Method

Sys. Theol. II: God, Creation and Man (Theology and Anthropology)

Sys. Theol. III: Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and Salvation (Christology, Pneumatology, and Soteriology)

Sys. Theol. IV: The Church & the Future (Ecclesiology & Eschatology)

If you picked up III and IV, there would be some overlap from III with B, but you'd get The Holy Spirit (Pneumatology), The Church (Ecclesiology), and Last Things (Eschatology) which make up the full contents of Sys. Theol. C.

I think you wouldn't regret it. Also Vancouver is really lovely in July. (It's lovely all year round, but less likely to rain in the summer.)

When I first came to Regent in '96, I used to choose my classes based on what professors I thought might not be around for much longer. It's amazing that of that crop of faculty members who were teaching then (many already up there in years), whom I was eager to take courses from before they died, most are retired, though many are still teaching (though in an "emeritus" role), and none has died. I thank the Lord for keeping them around, and continuing to bless this community and the world through their work. The ones still teaching include J.I. Packer, James Houston (also teaching this summer, a course on aging), Bruce Waltke (also teaching this summer, a course on Judges and Ruth), Paul Stevens (also teaching this summer, a course on entrepreneurial leadership in churches, non-profits and business), and Sven Soderlund (teaches New Testament but not this summer).

BTW, did you see this video I posted a couple of months ago of Packer reflecting on weakness and typing on his old manual typewriter? http://community.logos.com/forums/t/69289.aspx

Ben, one resource I didn't see on your list was the introduction Packer wrote to John Owen's "The Death of Death" published by Banner of Truth. To me, that introduction was worth the purchase of the entire book.

Thanks for that, Bill.  I know we have most of Owen's works but, as you say, I'm sure adding that particular book with Packer's intro would be worth it even if it meant we had the Owen book twice.
