I tried to look up Daniel B. Wallace's Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics on Logos and couldn't find it. Does anyone know if it is still available and if so could you post a link. I saw forum discussions about a revised edition several years away. Does anyone know the current status?

Maybe they took it down to fix the things that were lacking in it (can't remember exactly what those were; indexes or something?). As I noted last year on this forum, about a year ago I talked with Dr. Wallace at a regional ETS conference in Fort Worth, and he said it would (at that time) be at least 5 years before a revised edition would be coming out. He was sitting and talking with Verlyn Verbrugge, an editor at  Zondervan, at the Zondervan book table, if I remember correctly.

Call Logos to inquire where the resource is.

I hope so. The present formattin is quite clunky, with horizontal rules at page breaks, some missing outlines at the beginnings of chapters, and, as you say, the missing index volume (though Logos' reference search made up for that in my usage).

I may do that. I just wanted to see if I could find out through the forum first, instead of taking up someone's time at Logos.

I suspect Zondervan is holding it back for the same reason that none of their other grammar textbooks (including Mounce's Greek textbooks and Van Pelt's Hebrew/Aramaic ones) are available in Logos ---a reason they have chosen not to share with us.

This looks like a strategic licensing decision more than a technical or editorial one to me (especially since Accordance has them all).

This is somewhat of a concern for me. I have as much faith in Logos as anyone could reasonably have in a company. From their history, I believe it is safe to invest in resources knowing that they will stay up to date as technology changes. However, I know recently we lost the opportunity to buy Moody products apparently because of licensing decisions. Several of which were on my wish list. If we have now lost Wallace's Greek Grammar, it makes me wonder if publishers are trying to keep their products from Logos to give Logos competitor's an advantage. I don't know who owns what company, and I know that competition is good in general, but if publishers sell through one platform and not another, it is not going to be good for anyone in the Bible software industry. IMO

Have any of you long time Logos users seen products become unavailable and then be offered again later after licensing issues were worked out?

OUP and Liturgical Press have both reappeared this year, after having been gone several years, and the ACCS showed up again just a couple of weeks ago.

Well I tried searching for this resource under "Grammars" and "Dan Wallace"on the products page, no luck... then the blog to an article mentioning "Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics" following that link to this (see below).

Interesting, looks like it is no more.

I'm suddenly very, very glad I decided to buy this about a month before taking a class in which it's required.

That is interesting. Do you know if the prices different than before?

I don't think so. It was available for years and (according to archive.org) went missing after March 13th 2013.

I wish I had. I have it in hardback, but Logos has made me too lazy to walk over to the book shelf and check the page referenced. Hovering over a link is sooo much easier. :)

Yes, I have it.  I think it's quite possible the terms of the old licensing agreement ended.  The original Logos edition of GGBTB was built and published by Galaxie Software through some special arrangement, even though Zondervan was publishing the paper version and was still refusing to deal with Logos.  I am not privy to the details, but others have mentioned in the past that it was a special set of circumstances that allowed Galaxie (and thus Logos) to get it.

I was told directly from Zondervan employees that their language line up will be coming to Logos  this year. I would assume that this volume will be re-released as part of a larger package. Can't wait!

  • ACCS: exactly the same.
  • OUP: so far only a couple of titles that I don't think were ever in Logos back then (if they were even published yet).
  • Liturgical Press: one title was in Logos once upon a time, but is now in prepub together with vol 2, so even if I'd known, it's not comparable.

But I don't want to have to buy a $200 Zondervan language collection (or $300 if it includes Hebrew) just to get Wallace.

I'm not sure if it's always possible, but it would be great if Logos could give users a notice that certain resources will not be available after a certain date.  I bet this would increase sales of those resources.

This was done with those from Moody and I picked up a several that were on my wishlist before they disappeared.
