I hope that it is this year and I hope that Logos will include ALL of the Classic Commentaries that have come out.

I second that, I would really like to see them in a package.

I'm just curious — why would you be asking about Logos 6 when Logos 5 is not really out for that long. Have you heard something substantial, from a reliable source, that points to a new version, or is it just a case of 'the grass is greener on the other side'.

They are continuing to add new features. They're only just preparing Logos 5.1 (it's still in beta) which will have, among many improvements:

  • a new rich text editor
  • a new citation engine
  • "Collections" section in resource info pane which shows you which of your collections that resource is included in
  • ability to edit Series metadata
  • added Image search panel
  • new Reverse Interlinear ribbon which now supports dragging left/right with the mouse
  • added text input box for Personal Books

Check out some of the other enhancements in the beta release notes: http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_5_Beta_Release_Notes

I would suspect there will be a 5.1a, 5.1b, etc. and then a 5.2 and so on, long before they change the number to Logos 6.

They've been slowly working on implementing sync v2 which will allow them to add the ability to share personal books among our devices, which we've been wanting for a while. I'm betting that feature will be implemented in the next version after 5.1 (whether that's called 5.1a or 5.2).

A Google search for "logos 6" site:community.logos.com shows that some people have been speculating or wishing for a "Logos 6" already in the past, but really it is immaterial what the next big version is called. It could be that 5.2 will give us enough major new features to keep us happy for quite a while. And if you're not in the beta program, hold on until 5.1 ships and you might also be pleasantly surprised.

I'm guessing that Logos 6 will not be along until about November 2015 – based on the time between Logos 4 (2009) and Logos 5 (2012).

As others have noted, there are still bugs to be ironed out and tweaks and improvements to be made.

Of course, library collections may change, as they have done in the past, and have items both added and subtracted, according to contracts with publishers.

Personally, I give thanks for the general stability, flexibility and usefulness of Logos 5 and its many features.

Thanks to all the teams at Logos! Keep up the good work, guys. Greatly appreciated.

As the 90s song goes: "Things can only get better …"

Every blessing

Logos 5 was the first time I've purchased a Logos product so I was just curious as to Logos' release schedule as some software companies release new versions on a yearly basis.  I'm thankful for Logos 5 and I don't even know what the grass on the other side even looks like to desire it.

Logos's philosophy is "release early; release often." They don't want to keep people waiting for a whole year between new releases so they come out with new versions (with minor version number increments) every few months.

Logos don't have a public schedule but do have an aim for each release e.g. 6 weeks of public testing (beta), with another beta release after 1 to 2 weeks. See http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4_Beta_Release_Notes and http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_5_Beta_Release_Notes  (5.1 is still in beta).

My requests as layperson for L5.1

1. Please make the search feature to be easier so I don't have to learn the tricks & stuffs. (I didn't know i had to learn it from L4 features because L5 documentation is really poor)

2. sync highlights between PC & biblia/faithlife bible.

3. more powerful printing & copy paste option.

4.ability to flip the book pages "side way" rather than scrolling up and down when reading.

5. better output results in Passage Guide, Sermon Starter, Exegetical & Topic guide.

6. my extra 4000 other books needs to be utilized somehow. So many book I have never open or care. Please make us care with those books (if you know what I mean).

Yeah, those would be great :)

You know, I presume, that as of L5, they've added the cool new Search Helps that comes up when you open the search panel. It pretty much shows you how to construct any kind of search you might want to do:

mike:

2. sync highlights between PC & biblia/faithlife bible.

I believe they are working on that. Since 5.1 is already in a late beta stage now, I'd guess we won't see this until the next version (5.1a or 5.2?)

mike:

3. more powerful printing & copy paste option.

Could you give some specifics of what you'd like to be able to do that you can't yet?

mike:

4.ability to flip the book pages "side way" rather than scrolling up and down when reading.

You can do that when you're in "paged view" which you get into by selecting a column setting other than "None" on a resource's panel menu:

When you're in paged view (also known as "column view" even if there's only one column), you see left/right turn-the-page icons on the lower right:

mike:

5. better output results in Passage Guide, Sermon Starter, Exegetical & Topic guide.

Again, could you give some idea of what you're envisioning here?

mike:

6. my extra 4000 other books needs to be utilized somehow. So many book I have never open or care. Please make us care with those books (if you know what I mean).

Hmm, I don't have any idea what you mean. How would Logos interpret your request, I wonder? This is a great question to ask on the forums, though. Many of us have been asking the question and helping each other to make better use of the thousands of books in our library that we hardly even know we have. Making Collections is a big start, and Tagging our books. I'm sure other people will have other suggestions.

1. I guess what I'm asking is kinda stupid... I was hoping the same type algorithm like Google search in Logos. Like...it should give most search word, most search passage, most search topic, etc. all by Logos users inputs, not just Logos system at the drop down.

2. ok

3. we need "select all" or "ctrl A" functionality button type feature. Because so far we could only "copy & drag down".

why am I asking this? Because at where I work, I could just stare at monitor at biblia/faithlife but I need to copy-paste it to Microsoft Office so I could "look" like I'm actually reading/studying not just browsing the internet. (yes, academic reading is allowed at my work, but when its on internet.. it kinda look... how do i say it.. a little bit vague) So, when I could copy-paste-all on Microsoft Office ... I could read it peacefully. ;)

Also, sometimes I feel like I want to print Vyrso books so I can read at work (usually less than 200pages)... but it is a hassle to print without the print-all pages feature.

4. thank you. I didn't know that.

5 & 6. Maybe those other 4000 extra resources we have can be included by Logos giving hints on which books that most people open when do our searches. (kinda like prioritize but from other people suggestions)

Here's a few things I would like in Logos 6 or Logos 5.1.

1. The ability to right click on any word on screen and be told what font is being used.

2. Can we have some colours back?

3. What about a coloured scroll bar?

4. The ability to do some editing within the PRINT screen eg spacing, start a new page.

5. The ability to print several articles in the ONE PRINT screen

5 will do for now.

I don't have any wishes for the software. I just want 5.1 to be released or the beta-channel (which I've never subscribed to) release adequate within no later than two weeks from now.

No matter if the dynamic pricing model is kept, if they are not doing substantial changes to base-packages, way more than ever before, I won't be interested in them. I'm not interested in any minimal crossgrades and am soon going to return my Silver upgrade. (I have Bronze and OLL since before, and am thinking of what to do with Verbum - deciding soon).

I don't think that will happen… but you could always download the beta (normal warnings apply). Beta 9 was released recently, and RC1 has been referenced recently.

I wouldn't say so — wanting to get the most/best from a comprehensive library of resources such as in Logos 5 is perfectly reasonable.

mike:

I was hoping the same type algorithm like Google search in Logos. Like...it should give most search word, most search passage, most search topic, etc.

The search mechanisms & constructs available in Logos are quite good (as Rosie points out) but they seem to be 'unintelligent' as in they just return hits for indexed occurrences of words, groups of words etc. There does not seem to be an algorithm behind the query which does analysis. But to be fair to Logos one would have to ask how could an algorithm be (easily) written for this. I usually use 'Search in' and restrict to specific 'Collections' to help make queries more directed.

Regarding "most search word, most search passage" etc. that would mean that a query on your specific desktop copy of Logos would have to tap into (live) a huge, constantly changing, database of query history in the (Logos) cloud. Neither of which situations exist at the moment because you are querying a local database, and not all user queries go up to Logos. With Google you are on a website page which has behind it all the information Google has gathered (by means fair and foul) from persons. And I would not hold Google up as a shining example to emulate — they are hell bent on abrogating individuals' privacy for their own commercial gain.

mike:

That presupposes that [all] Logos users agree for Logos to have that personal information. Logos cannot assume that personal usage information of the Logos application by Logos users is theirs by right for the taking. It could be said that Logos already oversteps the bounds in European law of what is acceptable regarding privacy, something which I foresee will get them in hot water. For example, the 'Terms and Conditions' (T&C) of the Logos iPad application has these words "Logos reserves the right to anonymously track and report users' activity inside of the Application..." they may say they have the right, but a court of law may disagree with them. Either way I don't like the attitude, and even if a (American) jurisdiction says they have the legal right I don't believe they have the moral right. And I don't like that the 'Terms and Conditions' screen in the Logos iPad app goes to a dynamic web page — which means that Logos could conceivably change the T&C whenever they want — tsk tsk, very bad form.

Hopefully Logos does not have quite the same (recently exposed) attitude as the American government with respect to individuals' privacy. As regards either party, the argument "we need the information for the benefit of our [citizens & country|users & company]" smacks of expediency to me.
