Hello Forum,

I have been having trouble with syncing notes and wondering if somebody could explain how the sync function works in Logos. I am syncing between LS4 on a PC (soon to be 5) and my ipad. 

For example, I will make notes on my PC, then take my ipad to lead a Bible study and the notes are not there.  Or, I will do devotions on my ipad (love that by the way), then do some deeper study on my PC and the note hasn't shown up yet. I try syncing, exiting programs, restarting, etc. but can't figure out what syncs them. 

Here are my questions and thanks for any help.

1. When I make a note on the PC, there is a sync button on the PC Logos which I assume uploads my new note to the server.  Is this true?  Does it also upload the note automatically when I exit Logos?

2. When I make a note on the ipad, I don't see a sync button so assume the upload happens when I close the program.  If this is true, do I need to completely exit the program or just close it since ipads keep everything running?

3. When does PC Logos download the note changes.  Does the PC version automatically download the note changes when I open the program or do I have to hit the sync button?

4. When does the ipad app check for note changes and download the changes? 

5. Does syncing happen automatically while I am using Logos or only when I sync, open, close, etc.

Hey Ken! Sorry you are having troubles Tongue Tied

The sync has come a long way on mobile. I typically don't have any problems. There was a time when that wasn't true, and I had little tricks like killing the app via the multi-task bar to force a sync once the app opened again (that still works, by the way, but I don't really use it anymore). If you are having troubles, there are several things to look at. 

  1. What version of the desktop app are you running?
  2. What version of the mobile app are you running?
  3. What kinds of data are you having difficulties with syncing?
  4. How large are your note files?
  5. What is your Internet connection like?

I realized that I didn't necessarily answer all of your questions with my answer... But you should not ever need to press ANY sync button, nor should you have to close either of the apps (desktop or mobile). Both should sync automatically in the background.

Hi and thanks for the reply,

I am running the latest Logos 4 desktop and Version 3.3.2 ipad app which I believe is the latest.

It is my notes I am having trouble syncing. I am sure I have hundreds by now and some of are fairly long. The notes file itself is 1.3MB.

Internet connection is high speed and I use Logos at work and home.

Please verify which version of L4 you are using. Also, is there a reason you haven't migrated to at least the free L5 engine?

As for the note file, how do you know it's size? What directory were you looking in? Is it one single document, or many? If you were to print it in Logos, how many pages does it say it would print?
