The release copy is considered a stable version. Does that mean I can install it and not be considered on the beta program and when it turns Gold will automatically update? Please help us understand but release copy really means. Thanks!

I would like to know this as well.

If you typed in the command box "set update channel to beta" then it stays on the beta channel. To change this, type "set update channel to stable"
Mission: To serve God as He desires.

According to the wiki that Mark linked, if you download the Release Candidate from the link, you will stay in the Gold channel. Which means, when 5.1 becomes Gold, you will get the update. If you decide to go to the Beta channel altogether, you will get the Gold when it comes out, but when the next beta comes out, you will be updated to the next beta. To avoid going to a beta (if you don't want to use betas), just download it from the provided link (the wiki says all of this).

Hi Todd
Just to say for the first time I'm having a problem with this latest installation. I'm getting an error message saying that there is an "Error writing to file". It then gives the path to the file in question which seems OK. Finally it says "Verify that you have access to that directory". Can you hep please with this one? Thanks so much.

The nomenclature is a little confusing to me, no matter how Logos seeks to explain it. For other software programs, Release Candidates are not considered to be Gold / stable / release version. It simply isn't, although the codebase is bound to be nearly identical.
Personally, I'd wait a few days until Gold.

This version could be the Gold release as it's just a matter of Logos making the announcement and placing it on the normal update channel, from where it can be downloaded automatically.
Note that a Logos Release Candidate doesn't have the word Beta next to the version number in Help >> About.

Hi Gerald
This wiki should get you going --> http://wiki.logos.com/Windows_Troubleshooting#Installation.2fUpdate_Problems.
First try the folder Ownership fix.

Not trying to argue about nomenclature. A maker of a software has the authority to call its software anything it wants.
Just for me, a candidate is a candidate is a candidate. First, an RC1. Now, an RC2. Both on stable channel? You're free to try it. I'm not going to, it's not worth the risk. [^o)]

I have not downloaded the betas or RCs since the Logos 4 Mac Beta days. The reason for this is that I found the full release L4 Mac software was buggy enough and I didn't want that to be a reason why I could not get a problem looked at by technical support.
That said, Logos 5 is in my experience much, much better. Still not where I think it should be for Mac software, but it is getting there. With that in mind, I took a risk and downloaded this RC because I have been in a place where I could get to fast internet. I have found a few quirks with this RC, but it is still much better than some of the things we would encounter with L4. I'm grateful for the progress that Logos has made in their software development.

From the release notes:
Running ‘Go’ on a topic from the Home Page will now open a pre-made layout.- A Topic Guide, a Sermon Starter Guide (if applicable), and a Bible Word Study will be displayed in the left panel.
- Preferred Bible will be displayed in the upper right panel.
- Up to five Dictionaries will appear in the bottom right panel in order of preference.
>>>>>>
This is working correctly, with the exception of my preferred Bible; it is not appearing.
I am just getting two large panels - one on the left with the Topic Guide and Sermon Starter, and one on the right with 5 Dictionaries.
Am I missing something or is this a bug?

I am getting the same thing - no preferred Bible (no Bible at all)
I will admit that I don't know how Logos would work out where to open the Bible in relation to a topic but I guess that's a different question!

Hi Dave
Thanks for your help in pointing me in the right direction re my problem with the recent download. The Ownership worked a treat. I'm now up and going again.

If you read the announcement you would see it is not on the stable channel, from where it would download automatically.

This is where Logos make a blanket statement rather than a conditional one. If you startup Logos to a layout (not Home Page) you first need to Close All panels, then you will get the pre-made layout with your preferred bible.

I did not read the announcement so closely. I read this: An RC is considered a stable version.
Anyway, if it is not on the stable channel, that's the way it ought to be, and that is where I will leave it.
I think the wiki says it well:
wiki said:A Release Candidate (RC) is usually advertised in the Forums as being stable enough for people to use for their normal tasks. Think carefully about this even though the risk is fairly low, but things can go wrong because it’s still a beta and you won’t be able to go back to a Gold version unless you completely uninstall then reinstall.

IIRC, your preferred Bible is opened only if the chosen topic has a Key Verse. Try running a Topic Study on "Baptism" from the Home Page; it should open a Bible for that topic.

Either I don't understand this statement, or I'm not able to reproduce it. I did the following:
- Created a named layout.
- Set the program to open to that layout in Program Settings.
- Restarted the app.
- Clicked the Home Page button in the top left.
- Entered a topic ("baptism"), clicked Go.
- My previous layout was replaced with the topic study layout launched by the home page.
Are you seeing a different behaviour in step 6?

Thanks Bradley - that works
Is it possible to get the Release Notes updated to reflect the various conditions to avoid further confusion?
Thanks, Graham

Sorry! I should have read it more closely. My statement applies to "Clicking on the Lectionary widget in the Home Page ribbon launches a pre-made ‘Lectionary Layout’." which was discussed elsewhere.

I downloaded this RC to get the privilege of posting in the beta forum, where bugs are generally acknowledged within a couple of days, and at least sometimes fixed pretty fast. If I hadn't, the vast majority of those bugs -- and I've probably reported three dozen or so in the last week (with more coming) -- would still be there in 'stable', and I would have had to report them here in the L5 forum, where it takes me about a month on average to get them recognized, and about a year on average to get them fixed.

But it should also be opening if there are related verses; Kelly has created a case for this bug.

It should open by default. Probably will use it in the course of the study so even if you open it to Genesis 1:1 at least the layout doesn't have to be fiddled with to add a Bible.

That sounds like a reasonable assumption in a Bible study program.[:D]
