Logos 5.1 - Image / Map search results?
I'm very happy to have the new image search feature with its list of type of images to choose from, but I'm trying to figure out what exactly it is searching. (BTW, I have Gold + Biblical Languages libraries, so your results will probably differ. I also do have the latest 5.1 update. I've confirmed that Logos has finished indexing all the updated stuff.)
Example: I want to find any maps that display Bethsaida on them.
- I'll start w/ "Search All Images in Entire Library for ...."
- I start typing Bethsaida and choose it when it appears
- I get 25 results in 38 articles in 17 resources. 6 of the results are maps. One is from the (old and goofy) Logos Deluxe Map Set. One is from the Complete Book of When and Where...
- Now I click on "All Images" and choose just "Maps" from the dropdown
- Now I get 15 results in 15 articles in 2 resources. These are all maps, but now I have 14 maps from the Logos Deluxe Map Set and that one from the Complete Book of When and Where...
BUT... If I use the Bible Facts: Places and search for Bethsaida, I get 7 maps from the new (and excellent) Logos maps, 13 maps from the old Logos Deluxe Map Set, and 2 maps from the Tyndale Bible Dictionary.SO...
- Why do I get more maps when I limit my search to Maps as compared to All Images?
- Why do I not get the other (and better) maps using the Maps search as I get w/ Bible Facts: Places? (Is this second question just a matter of indexing still needing to be all coordinated with the update?)

Peace, Mark! Your post has been "sitting here" all day long unanswered, so I thought I'd "bump" it to perhaps call attention to it ....
Unfortunately I don't have an answer to your questions and will eagerly be following this thread to learn from any possible responses ...
Blessings to you and your Ministry! *smile*

Mark, a couple of factors are probably involved. The first issue is probably incomplete tagging. A map might be tagged as an image but not a map, while others might be tagged as both, and some would be tagged map only. This would reflect the newness of the tool and the need to retag or check the tagging on hundreds of resources.
Bible Places doesn't search your resources but draws from a database Logos has created (called BIBLICAL-PLACES-MAPS). I don't know why that is significantly different from the results of a Maps search, but am not surprised that it is at this point.

Hi Mark, I can confirm the behavior you're seeing.
I get 130 results in 66 resources when I search All Images in Entire Library for Bethsaida. 20 of these are maps (from Biblical Archaeology Review, Harper's Bible Dictionary, Nelson's 3-D Bible Mapbook, Baker Illustrated Bible Handbook, Early Christian Mission Volumes 1 & 2, Insights on John, and just 1 from Logos Deluxe Map Set)
When I restrict the search to just Maps, I get 28 results from 9 resources, and it includes 13 more from the Logos Deluxe Map Set which weren't included in the "All Images" search. Some of the ones included in the "All Images" search are not included here (I'm guessing because they were not tagged as maps).
When I use Bible Facts: Places, I get 11 maps, 7 of them from the new (and excellent) Logos maps, and the rest from Baker Illustrated Bible Handbook, Zondervan Encyclopedia of the Bible, Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary.
I think Logos needs to respond about these discrepancies. I don't understand enough about how the tagging of images and maps works.
I do know that the Bible Facts: Places dataset is not a resource in your Library, so it makes sense that the Search function wouldn't be able to search in it (and thus wouldn't find all the excellent new Logos maps). They have features like zooming and GPS coordinates which do not work with images in Logos resources. The Bible Facts: Places map search does pick up some maps from resources, but I'm not sure why not all.
And why the maps found in "All Images" results and "Maps" results for Image Search would be so different is a puzzle.

@Milford: Thanks for bumping the thread!
@Mark Smith: That's what I kind of was wondering, i.e., that tagging is still incomplete.
The thing is, I have become so dependent on my searches returning all the results I need, that I worry when search results are inconsistent. It's not such a big deal w/ maps, but I have other threads where I have found issues locating word lemmas and the like that can indeed affect the research I do.

I'm guessing this search is treating Logos maps differently from "plain old" images, which seems like the wrong behavior. I'll pass this along as a bug.
