Thank you for that Dan. I've been in on the pre-order for a while now, but those samples are greatly appreciated.

one of the key features is listed as follows:

  • Numerous visual aids (illustrations, maps, charts, timelines) enhance understanding and ease of use

Can anyone make any comment on the diagrams, charts, etc within the NIB. Are they "numerous"? Does anyone have a scan to give me an idea of what they might look like? Thanks for any contribution.

Hey... Looks like it is finally under development!

This is not the first time it has been "under development" just to go back to "almost there."  Because it had to made a big jump from yesterday to today to be able to be "under development," I am going to take a wait and see approach before I get to excited (like I did the times before).

Here is one map and one drawing... the Art mentioned in Volume 12 are lovely full colour reproductions on glossy paper.  In my CDROM edition shadow (the place you make changes notes and highlights) I placed the art work, but like I said I have no idea if we will get the art or not, I have listed the 8 works at the bottom of this post.

Just a reminder this is the quality of the maps/pictures from the Abingdon's CDROM version, Logos' version will possibly be of a better quality.

What makes you say possibly?

The scans to me sometimes seem a poor quality compared to the printed version, also in the case of the dictionary the electronic version came with full colour photos rather than the b/w ones in the print edition. The fact that Abingdon has presented  Logos with newly done databases suggests in my mind it is not just the old folio datasets and we may well see that a better quality of scan for any pictures and higher quality even on the maps. This is pure speculation but in many ways Logos could easily achieve a better quality by scanning the very few items in themselves than using the lesser quality scans included in the folio files and since higher quality photos we included in the electronic version compared to the print version of the dictionary I was hoping it may be the same for the NIB.

I'm in for both the commentaries and the dictionaries, since the prepub price is really a bargain.  Christian Book dot com has the print edition on sale at a little bit over the Logos prepub price and in other places the set is sold for about 800 bucks.

I'm glad Dan's wish is finally coming true.  Hopefully orders will stay in so it won't go back to "almost there." After this purchase, I think it's gonna be a while before I purchase another commentary series.  My final purchase will be NICOT/NICNT, but it's gonna be a while before I do that.  Maybe 2 years (or maybe less).

DAL

Ps. Looking forward to N.T. Wright's volume on Romans (his "massive" commentary as he calls it).

Well if I understand it properly the new databases have brought production costs far down. As you saw earlier the dictionary went from  not even close to under contract and I was lead to believe a similar savings was made with the new NIB ones. Since it went to under contract I was lead to believe the work on it was to start right away and was given a tentative hoped for time frame to complete it. I am not 100% sure I trust it as I was given a time frame for  the Dictionary and it should have had a release date listed by now if it had been correct. I am glad both are being worked on, and I am sure they will get down sooner than later, even if they are later than I hope or they original hoped for.

I want the NIDB with two accounts! Big Smile Not sure what to do with the spare copy but I'm not planning to sell it. I have it in print as well, new from a sale at cokesbury last Summer. I will most probably meet new people at universities who need the NIDB but a problem arises if they are Logos users already because what I'm thinking of is gifting the entire extra Logos account I have - there's not much in it.

Between NIB and NTL I'm pretty sure I choose the latter. Buying both would be impossible with my finances. Even just the NTL is very expensive. I rather go with a bit more technical commentary than one which is partially pastoral (some of the books of the Bible in the NIB are partially pastoral). Despite this I encourage others to order the NIB if it's the kind of commentary set they want.

It's important to think about which type of commentaries You need for which books of the Bible, because Logos just has so much to offer that a small percentage of users can have it all.

I would manage without buying any additional commentaries.

Sometimes I consider new ICC volumes, for example 1-2 Thess by Donfried, estimated to ship on Aug. 13. 2015 as printed matter. Some of the forthcoming new Hermeneia -volumes will also be of interest, speaking of which, there's a volume some may have missed that ships very soon: Hermeneia: Luke 2: A Commentary on the Gospel of Luke 9:51–19:27 by François Bovon, $44.95 as a pre-pub-order. But I will have to put some thought into each new volume. Hermeneia doesn't ever seem to be split up, all You can get individually is the volume in the above link, Upgrades 1-3, and You can order Continental separately. So I will always have the problem of whether to pay for an Upgrade if it contains (a) volume(s) I don't want.

I doubt the NIB set will ever be broken up.

Aply!
