Is it possible to put my sermon/teaching outline and notes on a document in logos, which I can access from my ipad so I can teach from it? If so, how can I do this?

I'm not really looking for a presentation app at this time. I'm really looking for a app to down load my notes to, that also enables me to use the hot buttons on logos bible text for the various cross references, etc....and without impeding my outline and study notes. It doesn't look like proclaim is set up for that.?

Any other suggestions of what guys are doing with their ipad and logos study tools to present from their ipad? Thank you.

Mike, welcome. You certainly can do this if you'd like to. You can open a split screen in the Logos app on the iPad and have your Bible on one side and a Logos Note file on the other. All you need to do is create a Note file in the Logos desktop app (you can do it on the iPad but I wouldn't). It will then sync to your iPad Logos app and be available there.

You can use the iPad and project directly from it in the future if you want to. You need the Apple TV adapter ($99) to do this wirelessly.

Logos notes are a great place to take sermon notes, but I copy and paste them into a different app where I have more control over display. Also Logos notes can sometimes do funny things with scrolling (like lock up or jump to a different note entry). So I don't see much a benefit to using Logos to preach from at this time. Depending on your preaching note style, something like Pages or Evernote might work well. Prompster Pro is nice because of the autoscroll feature. Or for teleprompter: Teleprompt+ is very nice

...Although I do think that something like this would be a great possibility for future development for Logos.  I would love to see a preaching note tool integrated between Logos mobile apps and the desktop app that would be designed to be flexible enough for a wide variety of sermon notes. It just isn't the optimal tool now.

I do my outline/notes in Word, then when done I save it to a PDF and view the PDF on the iPad in Goodreader when presenting. Goodreader would also be able to show the Word docx file but pdf has some advantages. Goodreader's ability to crop the pages is very helpful--eliminating the white border space makes the text larger and much easier to read on the iPad screen, if the original Word doc had a page layout size of 8.5"x11". Also, you could change the page layout size in Word to make the resulting text in the pdf on the iPad any size you want.

I'm not sure why you are having difficulties with this... Unless you don't know how to open a note document itself. If you need help with something else, let us know. Smile

To open a note document, scroll the sidebar menu sideways until you come to the fourth panel (notice the little dots at the bottom of the panel) called "documents." Open a note document in the same manner as a book resource from your library (click on the title).

I've been preaching from my iPad since iPad 1.

Logos notes are great for taking notes as you study, but I don't recommend them for preaching notes. Too much complexity. A better option is to use a word processor and copy/paste bible text into the notes. I do this using a Mac to write up my notes in Pages the Mac word processor. With iCloud sync the pages document shows up in Pages app on my iPad and I don't have to do anything but open it. I select all and bump up the font to 24pt to make it very easy to see. I have some styles that I've set up on the Mac to make seeing things like my main sermon points, quotations, Bible text easier to identify quickly. For example I use Blue headings for sermon points and red indented paragraphs for Bible quotes. Subheadings with black bold italics help me see sub-movements easily and I use lots of bullet points so I'm not reading.

You can do all of this on MS Word too. Then save it to a DropBox or SugarSync or Google Drive folder and use the app from whichever service you choose to open the file. Use the Open In feature to open the file in Pages. Great workflow and easy to see my notes.

Mark,

Very good suggestion.  I just create a Word document which includes my Scripture and notes.  I then send it to Pages on my iPad, but what you do is far better.

I assume from your notes that you teach inductively, rather than giving more of a lecture. Right or wrong?

I do teach inductively and ask lots of questions. Lest you be misled I don't use my iPad to teach from. I find that a bit off-putting. Depending on the complexity of the study I'll use PowerPoint.

Thank you alabama24. I had completely missed how to open a note document as a book resource. Much appreciated.

Thank you Kevin! Your screen shot is very helpful. A visual that gives clarity to your paragraph above. A picture IS worth a thousand words....

Mark,

do you ever have a problem getting the Notes column to be full sized?  I had to try this last week (printer ran out of ink sunday morning and forced me to scramble for alternative).  But I couldn't make the Notes column appear more than half screen on my ipad.  would post a screen shot but don't have ipad with me

Hi Sam

Sam Pedigo:
But I couldn't make the Notes column appear more than half screen on my ipad.

The current shipping release only provides half-size notes - but the version which is currently in beta supports full-size ones.

I don't know when it will ship but, I'm afraid, you will need to have to wait until then.

Graham
