Even if I've carefully selected text (STARTING with a right click & extending it
Sorry - I don't understand. How do you start with a right-click and extend?
Don't need more & would like the option to turn this feature OFF if it's implemented anyway. :-)
It can be enabled / disabled from Program Settings - "Smart Text Selection" option.
However, Logos smart select changes the both the beginning & the end of the what I've selected to correspond to something else (since prior behavior worked as expected, I've been assuming that smart select change the behavior in this beta).
Does that help? Thanks for asking, Graham.
I'm happy to know I can turn it off in the beta. I'm still hoping the ability to turn it off continues into production if this feature is implemented.
Hmmmmm..... just checked, & it's ALREADY turned off. In that case, selection certainly isn't working as I expected!
Bug?

I can reproduce the problem with Smart Selection turned ON in Program Settings, but I can't reproduce it when Smart Selection is turned OFF.
Are you saying that it occurs for you no matter what Smart Selection is set to in Program Settings?
2. On production L5 (plus in Word, etc.,---also more or less standard in Windows), hold shift key down & then left click on end of desired selection; selection is extended to desired point.
With that and normal selection of multiple words I don't see the value of 'smart selection'. Also not a smart move with feelings about continual indexing.
I'm not participating in beta this go around, but "smart selection" doesn't seem to be a feature I would want or use... Unless I am missing something.

Still undecided on its value, but it has not irritated me enough to turn it off yet [8-|]

Is the "smart" selection JUST single words, or is it phrases?
Dylan described the feature here http://community.logos.com/forums/p/76715/536938.aspx#536938
Thanks Jack. I might like whole words; but not clauses and such.
That would be my preference. Believe Smart Selection is somewhat similar to MS Word's sentence selection—but on steroids [^o)]

Two examples: (with Smart Selection turned on using 5.2 RC1 (5.2.0.0041) on a PC:
NASB:
A) Click anywhere in John 16:5 and drag to anywhere in v6.
Panel reference includes v7 (not selected). Using the ALT key I can get the panel reference to display only verses 5-6, but then only part of the two verses are selected (unless I start to drag from the beginning of verse 5 and end at the end of verse 6, defeating the purpose of having Smart Selection).
C) But right-click reference is correct.
LEB:
A) Click anywhere in John 16:7 and drag to anywhere in v8
Selection jumps to v11 and the panel reference shows 7-11. Using the ALT key I can get the panel reference to indicate verses 7-8, but then I don't have the full text of those two verses highlighted unless I start to drag from the beginning of verse 7 and go to the end of v8.
C) Right click reference includes the same reference range as the panel reference (7-11) (Makes me thirsty for a Slurpee)
Thanks for reporting these situations, Tim. The issue in the NASB occurs regardless of smart selection and there is a case for development to fix it. This happens anytime you select the "end of paragraph" character (the extra space) at the end of a verse (occurs in all Bibles).
As for the LEB, the behavior you described is as-designed. Because the sentence that begins in verse 8 ends at the end of verse 11 and because you began selection in a different sentence (the one in verse 7), when the selection crosses the sentence boundary it expands to select both sentences. This is how smart selection is intended to work.
I hope that gives a bit of clarity. Please let us know if you notice anything else or have any other questions.
Thank you!
Chris
Thank you, Chris. And welcome to the forums - whether you're new to Logos or just recently allowed to talk to us sharks users. [8-|]
Thank you for the welcome! I have been with Logos for over a year, but have just recently started posting to the forums.
Tim, the second issue you described (the one in the LEB) should be fixed with verse-level support for smart selection. This has been implemented internally and will be shipping in a later build. Someone from the testing team will post here when it ships. Thank you!
