Three times in a row so far.

Lots of communication errors in the Logos.log file.
Do you still get the same problem if you start Logos offline?
If not - are there any network issues that you are aware of?

Thanks for trying.

Yes, unfortunately.

Not really, and the test page shows good speeds. However, I've had severe problems posting to the forums lately: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/78250/546998.aspx#546998, but I've assumed that was on Logos' end.

Your Logos.log contains these error lines
[quote]11/30/2013 13:21:46 | INFO | 1 | LocalFileDatabase | Found existing database at /Users/GP/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/fxvkbsag.un8/Errors/Application/ErrorReportManager.db
11/30/2013 13:21:46 | ERROR | 1 | ApplicationUtility | Error building request (POST https://api.raygun.io/entries). ~WebException: Error: ConnectFailure (Connection refused)
11/30/2013 13:21:46 | ERROR | 1 | RaygunErrorReporter | Error Logging Exception to Raygun.io Error building request. Request: POST https://api.raygun.io/entriesWonder if deleting the ErrorReportManager.db would clear the problem?
However, "WebException: Error: ConnectFailure (Connection refused)" might indicate a problem communicating with Logos. Seems to be quite a few WebException Errors in Mac logs in the last few days. Perhaps we need Logos to check these out.

The number and range of connection errors leads me to think that there's a problem with your Mac, possibly the firewall or other security software. You are using a local proxy server - this may well be the culprit.

Mark, several Mac users—with different version of the Mac OS and in various locations—have reported similar web connection problems. It is highly unlikely that they all have the same problem with their individual Macs.

Perhaps, but that wouldn't explain the problems accessing the forum, which seem unique to fgh.

I'm using Hotspot Shield, but before the second post I tried both with that paused, and with Logos in Offline mode. Connection issues can't cause an Offline crash, can they?
Here are some new Offline logs (after a restart, some maintenance stuff, and with Hotspot Shield completely off): 1651.LogosLogs.20131130-180142.zip
Perhaps I should also add that what happens when I click 'Guides' is that the dropdown appears looking like this:
Then it spins for some seconds, and then crashes.

I don't have problems accessing the forums; I have problems posting. Not the last few hours, though.

This is an error in Mono which appears to be independent of the many Sync errors. Contact Logos Support for more assistance.

Thanks, Dave. My contacts with Tech Support have been... less than pleasant. I have no longing to repeat the experience. I'll wait a bit and hope that Bradley shows up.

I'll ask a Mac expert to take a look at your logs. In the meantime, I did see a performance problem. You have a resource collection with the following rule:
type:commentary AND (mytag:ivpref OR (subject:("bible--commentaries","bible--study and teaching") ANDNOT (subject:"collected works" OR series:"*"))
"series:*" has not yet been optimised (cf. http://community.logos.com/forums/p/76436/536031.aspx#536031), so this collection is slowing down your system. You may see increased performance if you remove or rewrite this collection rule.
"series:*" may be optimised in a future version of Logos 5, in which case you could return to using the current definition of this collection.

Thanks, Bradley.
You have a resource collection with the following rule:
And I who was so sure I didn't have any collection rules with *'s that I never checked... I guess my memory isn't what is was any more.[:)] It's my one-volume commentary collection. Probably one of the first I ever made. I deleted the * part and put two books in the minus section instead. The third that showed up I didn't mind having there.
Unfortunately, it didn't make much difference. I still have to sit staring at the screen before the Collections dropdown in Library populates. Even the first part takes 1-2 seconds to appear. That at least should be instantaneous.
"series:*" may be optimised in a future version of Logos 5
Please do. -series:(a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z) seems like a complicated way to exclude all series...
An oddity: -series:(a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z) excludes 3E Ministries Study Guides, but -series:(a,e,i,o,u,y) does not. Is that by design?

Yes. None of the words in "3E Ministries Study Guides" start with any of the letters in "(a,e,i,o,u,y)".
In a Library Catalog query, any word not surrounded in double quotes is implicitly treated as a prefix term.

Yes.
I shouldn't write when I'm too tired to think! When I tried -series:(a,e,i,o,u,y), I was thinking "any letter", and when I tried -series:(a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z), I was thinking "first letter in title". In neither case did I think "first letter in any word". How stupid is that![:$]

There is still an open case for this issue. We have been unable to reproduce this issue internally either on 10.6, 10.8 or 10.9 but are still looking into the issue.

Thanks for assuring me that it hasn't been forgotten or fallen between two chairs. One usually hears back much faster than this when it's a crash, so I was beginning to feel abandoned.[:)]

Interesting development in RC 1:
The crash seems gone, but the dropdown still doesn't show the guides that are supposed to be there:
Note 1: The two empty sections were already expanded since before the start of this thread, while the BWS section was expanded after I opened the dropdown today.
Note 2: A comparison with the screenshot on page 1 shows no BWS section at that time, yet I am fairly certain I haven't created that BWS since (I've hardly even opened Logos lately, except to download and index).
Note 3: I'm not actually sure I have ever deliberately created any saved guides; I only have the dropdown's word for it that they should be there. I did, however, have a tiny number of autosaved guides in L4, that I deleted as soon as you gave us the dropdown and the ability to do that. Could it possibly be those guides that have come back as 'ghosts', counted but not shown?

Im sorry fgh but I am not able to reproduce this on Mac 10.6 in 5.2a. [:(] Are you still seeing this? What happens if you sort by "Name" or "Reference" and then switch back to sort by "Type"? Do you still see the same issue as in the screenshot?

What happens if you sort by "Name" or "Reference"
Good suggestion with an interesting result. Turns out this too is one of those Swedish OS / English Logos issues:
They couldn't show up under the English headings, because they've suddenly gotten Swedish names!
(Lesson for the future: when you can't reproduce one of my bugs even on 10.6, try with my odd Swedish OS / English Logos settings.[:D])

Good news. The great news comes when you've fixed it.[;)][:D] Thanks.
I guess this confirms that BUG 5.2a RC1: Almost blank Library also has the same cause, given BUGS 5.2a RC1: Edition column.
Perhaps you could check if there is more Swedish turning up where it shouldn't?
