I would love to have some resources similar to Zondervan's Reader's Hebrew and Greek Bibles. Ideal would be the option to have some mass highlighting (ie., highlight all proper names, words occurring less than 1000 times, etc.)

Welcome Big Smile

My favorite Logos feature is visual filter highlighting that combines hundreds of search results for simultaneous display:

Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Extended_Tips_for_Highlighting_and_Visual_Filters#Examples_of_visual_filters

Members or Followers of Faithlife group Logos Visual Filters => https://faithlife.com/logos-visual-filters/documents can freely copy highlighting palettes then visual filters for their own use.

Hi Jared

Expanding on what KS4J says about visual filters and looking at one of your examples:

Jared Wilson:
highlight all proper names

The Louw-Nida Lexicon categories Greek words into semantic domains which will help with us.

If you right click on a name of someone you will see the semantic domain associated with them.

In the case of Mary - for example - you can see (below) that she is associated with 93.254

Clicking on the Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament (at the bottom left of the popup above) shows a lot of people and places within the "93" domain

If you navigate to the top of the "93" entry you will see that "Persons" are 93.1-388 and "Places" are 93.389-615

So a search for that entire range will find all people and places in the New Testament

Clicking the "make filter" button at the top of the search panel allows you to set up a highlight which will show against all of these hits (you choose the highlight from a drop-down menu and you can make your own if you desire). In the example below I choose a green highlight and name the filter "People and Places" by just typing into that field.

If I now open the NIV you will see that all the people and places are highlighted:

These highlights are populated when you start Logos so can take some time at startup depending on the capability of your machine.

If you want to turn the highlight off just uncheck it from the list at the bottom of the visual filter menu

So you need to do some work to set these up but they are very powerful and flexible

Hope this helps provide some context - but do feel free to come back with any more questions

Graham

Faithlife group Logos Visual Filters => https://faithlife.com/logos-visual-filters/documents has "People, Places, & Things - Louw-Nida" visual filter with more highlighting using Louw-Nida domains.

Another possibility is to add a list of lemmas to a set of visual filters. Mark Barnes explains in a thread on hapax legomena how to do this. In principal there is no reason why his method couldn't be expanded to include words which occur up to 50x etc. That said I had a little go with it and managed to cause a crash. I'm not sure if the list is so big it would need to be divided into several filters? Worth a shot if you want the feature...

The visual filters are great for working from a computer, but is there a similar option for the iPad and other tablets or smart phones? I like to try and sit and read from Hebrew texts while I am at my kids practices or in the waiting room at the Dr.'s office and I don't always have access to Wi-Fi so I can't always look up the definition of words. Zondervan has a print version of both Hebrew and Greek texts that has Proper Nouns in light grey and all of the uncommon words have a footnote with a quick definition. This makes it much more encouraging to read because you don't get stuck trying to Parse an obscure name, and I am less likely to "cheat" and jump to a dictionary or lexicon if I know the word is somewhat common.

On the ipad the best way I've found is the lexham interlinear bibles and a piece of card to cover the lines below unless you need to see it.

I also sometimes just put the greek or hebrew text on one side and the esv on the other. That works well for me. On some words you may want to do a lookup or word study (which links to lexicons)? If you set your library to sort by recent it is easy to switch between books in the second pane like UBS translators handbook or NET notes if like me you find those handy.

As an aside http://biblewebapp.com/reader/ is also very handy as a readers version.

Hope that helps,

John
