Bug: New Library "Browse" feature

" Implemented Prioritize to work as a toggle button"

I was excited to read this - at last I get more space for the Find box. But perverse logic has affected the implementation:

  • What is this Browse button? I click to fiind it becomes Prioritize[:S]
  • The Find box has less space (4.1 - 4.2 cm) than Beta 3 (4.7 cm) which was inferior to v5.2 (5.0cm),  which was much less than v4 because of the v5.0 Filter drop-down.

I documented the reason for the toggle at least 3 times since v5.0 and now I have more empty space!!!  Those three new icons for Cover etc. could easily be combined as well.

I was confused by this as well.

In fact I was about to report this as a bug: that the prioritize button had been left off.  IMHO it should start by saying Prioritize then switch to browse (in order to toggle back)  Then again, I'm not suffering the same space problems and was happy to have both there.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Yes, I'd say it's set backwards as well.

When I saw this post I was immediately excited. I thought Logos had decided to institute a feature I suggested for previewing your resources along the lines of the kindle Xray feature. Alas I guess it's not to be, at least not yet [:(]

I agree it makes more sense to have the text flipped from what it is currently. I'll make a case for that.

Those three new icons for Cover etc. could easily be combined as well.

This was part of the same case as having Browse|Prioritize set to a toggle. I'll see if it's still being considered/planned.

How wide do you have your Library panel set? I see an issue where the Find box will shrink before all the empty space is used up, so I'll make a case for that. The Find bar starts shrinking if the panel is less than 620px wide.

However, with Logos open at 1250px wide (less than widescreen for most monitors, I'd hope) with the Library in a half-window panel, the Find bar is the same size between 5.2a Beta 4 and 5.2.

If this Browse/Priority button could be made to stick in the last used position, it would be more useful and satisfy more users on the use of it. I prefer it to stay at Prioritize, however, others may prefer it to stay at Browse.

Versions 5.2 & 5.2a have the same tile sizes and the window is full-screen at 1366 x 768:

The panel is about 41% of screen width; roughly 560 px, yet the Find box was larger in Beta 3...

But I like it the way it is. Once priorities are set, there is less need to go there than there is to see product information for the selected resource.

The Information panel comes up in the same way as the Prioritize panel, so its button should also be labelled Browse until you click it (because the Library is surely in browse mode until either of those panels comes up)!? Therefore, for consistency (i.e. indicating function) Prioritize should be displayed, with only the background changing when clicked to show the panel.

When the Information panel is not displayed, the button currently comes up as Browse. However, when clicked, it become Prioritize and opens that window. Clicking a second time closes the Information panel and returns the button to Browse. This is a confusing sequence. Therefore, in this case, I agree that the button should be labeled Prioritize.

Had not seen this before because I always open the Library with the Information panel displayed. Of course, those with less screen real estate may not want to leave the Information panel displayed by default.

I have made a case requesting that the buttons use up that blank space to the right of "Entire Library" before shortening the Find box. That appears to be the issue here. Thanks for clarifying!

Jack, but that's the point. We see the product information (what the Logos people call browse - others might think of resource details...) and we rarely will need to prioritize something. We have a button that will let us do this - but it is called "browse" and unless one knew the old library UI, no one would guess that this actually leads to prioritize view. So the UI should be the same, but the button renamed to the function it will perform when clicked, which is going to prioritize view.

And the other way round, if (much less often) we are in prioritize view, the button shouldnt be named "prioritize", since that's what we do by ordering resources in the list, but "back to normal" or "show resource details" or "browse" or "done".

Misunderstood the original intention of the post. Thought you fellows wanted to open in the Prioritize situation. But now I see that the button label is backward. It displays Browse when displaying product details and Prioritize when the prioritize panel is displayed. That is the opposite of what the button does.

This should be fixed in 5.2a Beta 5.

"Extra blank space in the Library menu bar is now used up when resizing the panel before shrinking the Find box."

This has been fixed! It is now strictly a "Prioritize" button, which will toggle the Prioritization panel on or off.

They have been combined in Beta 5, including new icons! [:D]

Fun fact: "Prioritization" is surprisingly difficult to type.

Nice! Toggling these on and off works in all three views, I can't really complain about screen real estate and the length of the field:

I like that you now respect the aspect ratio of cover pictures, too. Very cool.

One very small thing: the circle for resource info button is a bit too large for the allocated space and gets slightly cropped on the right side - most often, but sometimes not, depending on size of the library window - and the bottom - always for me.

This is of course under Windows, the Mac look will be different

Thank you!!!  In Beta 5 I now have a Find box that is 30% wider and much more useful.
