I am a long time Quick Verse user looking to make a change. Any suggestions on transferring my QV books into Logos?
Hi Jim,
If you're talking about books you developed/wrote yourself for use in Quick Verse, there are some users who can help you with the Logos 3 Personal Book Builder. The Logos 4 version hasn't been released as yet. Maybe 2Q10.
However, if you're talking (as I suspect) about transferring your licensed books from QV into Logos format, I'm afraid it's bad news. No can do & no plan for the foreseeable future.
Even if it wasn't the answer you wanted, here's hoping it was at least responsive to the question you had.
One more thought. Logos 4 packages will go off sale pretty soon (no formally announced date, but generally expected to last only through the end of the year). Logos package sales are the best buys (cost per book) for getting into Logos. If you're serious about changing, don't miss them. If history is a good predictor of the future, it'll be next Christmas time before the values are this good again.
Bill, thanks for the info, it was the news I expected. I had hoped it might be different. I have a ton of books in QV and I hate to have to repurchase some of them. Logos however seems to be so much better of a system all round.
Also, thanks for the heads up on the year end deal, I had a funny feeling that tomorrow could be the last day. I will decide tonight.
Thanks again!
I'm in the same boat on some books in Pradis... The good news is they'll still work in Pradis. (Even if Zondervan gives a discount to existing owners, I doubt it'll be enough that I could afford to repurchase something I already own.)
Blessings on your decision!
Bill
Jim,
You have heard the bad news, now here is some good news, I have Quickverse too, as well as most of the major bible software programs. It is one of many good solid programs on the market. I teach pasters or anyone that wants to learn how to use bible software to study the scriptures, how to use whatever software they have. As a result of this, I am constantly using different software.
When it comes to software that allows the user to go however deep they want to go, nothing beats Logos.
As for the cost, buy now and buy the biggest library you can afford, that you think you would use, up to Platinum, that is the best buy for the money. With the discount that is on right now you can get the Platinum library for 1690.00-25%. You would save over 420 dollars and you would get 1150 books which puts your cost down to around 1.20 per book or less.
Thats a lot of very good books at an extremely low price, but on top of that you have a system that can make it easy to access those books to help you learn quickly. In the libronix 3 system there was a feature called the Personal Book Builder. It allowed people that owned that feature to make free books from public domain books , books that would then fit in Logos 3 and those with a reader, could read those books, books such as Barnes Commentary, and John Gill's Commentary. I have found over 1000 of those books for free on the internet. This feature is due out in Logos 4 in the next 6 months.
Look around and see if you can find any other program that allows you to buy books at the price of the Platinum package and then also has a way to add so many free books to the system too! If you find another package that does anything near this, let me know, I am always looking to help others find the best buys in bible study programs.
I like Quickverse, but it is not the same as Logos!
In Christ,
Jim
Thanks for your insight and encouragement. I am already thinking I am liking the Logos community as much as I may the system!
My wife and I have just been called to Lima to do missions work. I am in my early 50's, this was not the plan. :0) I thought going into the ministry looked more like seminary and then a local church. I want to have a system to grow with while we are there, but as we raise our support it is hard to drop down $1,600. I was struggling with considering the Scholars package. I will howver take your advice serious and try to get the biggest package I can.
Blessings to this coming new year,
PS Do you know if I buy one system that my wife I and I will be able to share books? She is a Mac,
I am a PC.

Short answer: "Yes". Bob P has addressed this at length. As long as your wife does not have a separate ministry, your single-user license covers you both, The license also covers both the Mac and that other system.
It is, however, sad that your family is divided over such an important life-style choice.[:D] But there is hope for you that she can lead you to the light [8-|]
Jack,
Great news! Thanks!
Too funny on the Mac/PC comment. I actually tried the Mac for awhile and really liked it. Two things held me back, the first was most of my software was not as strong in Mac, and then I spent so much time at work on PC programs that the divide of attention was too great. Now with Logos making great tracks on the Mac side, and me moving from the corporate world, I expect to convert with my next laptop!
Jim, I think as a missionary you will really love the Logos system, it allows you to take all your books with you and it takes no extra effort!
My wife and I, live in a motorhome and do church planting, at one time I had over 1000 hard copy books, I gave them away to other believers and churches.
I now have over 6000 books on my laptop although only about 3100 are in Logos, but my ability to study is far greater, the books are far more useful in format!
Once you understand this program and have the right books in it, your educational goals are likely way beyond what currently imagine. You will learn to question some of the best minds the church has ever had, and you will be able to compare their thoughts directly with each other and even more importantly with the scriptures.
Where ever you go start a study group with some of the other believers to be able to discuss the things that you are learning with the Logos 4 program. If they don't have software, give them free copies of The Word, which can be found at www.theword.gr although it is only for public domain books it is a great program and has at least 700 modules offered for free on the internet. It has gret search abilites for a free program. I use it all the time with folks that can not afford Logos.
Remember, the Platinum program would not be 1690.00 right now, it would be more like 1200 dollars on sale, plus if you need to you could spread the payments out over a year.
Logos also has an easy payment schedule. I upgraded to Scholar's from Leaders this way. I think that Scholars is plenty for me, since I am neither a leader or a scholar, just fascinated by our God and doing my best to study Him!

God bless you for your faithfulness in carrying out his will.
Hi Jim. Sounds like a very interesting phase of your lives. God bless and guide you through this time.
You already have good answers to most of the q's you asked. I'm also in my 50s, and changed to Logos 14 months ago from the same package you had. Should have done it years ago.
If you use Heb/Gk, you definately need the Scholars Library. After pouring over the comparison chart for a week, I decided the basic Scholars was as far as I could reach. Logos ended up being much more than I expected, and I've added heaps to the base pack: WBC, BST, ISBE, and so on.
Enjoy.
Allen,
Thanks for the info and encouragement! Glad to hear you agree with the change from QV to Logos, I wanted to pull the trigger a long time ago!
Have a blessed 2010
Welcome to Lima. My wife and I have been here for 20 years as Lutheran missionaries. You'll find having your resources in electronic form is great. Even from the standpoint of having your library with you when you have to travel back to the States. What sort of mission work will you be doing?
David
Too cool, I would love to meet you some time. We will not be down until March. We will be working with Child Reach Ministries (childreachministries.org). Currently we are building an orphanage and women's pregnancy center in Chilica. We will be support for them, but our first direction from the Lord is to learn the culture, lanaguage, and build relationships. If you have any insight, we are all ears. Maybe we could hook up on Face book. facebook.com/jschutzsr for further discussion.
Another thing to keep in mind is the cost of shipping books. If you're moving to Lima, bringing a large print library is a huge additional expense beyond the price of the books themselves. Just something to consider when you weigh whether or not a Logos package is affordable or not at this point.

Jim, as a missionary, you might also want to contact Logos and ask about their alumni/academic discounts. If you are an alumni of a Bible College/Seminary, there are some discounts available too. Not sure how much, but every little bit helps.
