I thought all pentacostals are charismatic, but not all charismatics are pentecostal.

But not all Pentecostals like being called Charismatic especially those with strong Holiness/Wesleyan roots.

And I'm one of them.  Okay, I won't have a falling out with anyone over it, but I do believe that Pentecostal is the better designation for what we are discussing here.

I know some Charismatics that do not like to be called Pentecostal. I see your point. However, if this package is going to include resources for both Pentecostal AND Charismatics - how can you justify it just being called Pentecostal?

Pentecostal/Charismatic I thinks is the best

I just think Pentecostal conveys the type of material this package would contain the best.  But I'll buy it no matter the title as long as solid Pentecostal material is offered.

I'm interested in some input from our forum users, especially those from a charismatic or pentecostal/AOG background.

Pentecostal/Charismatic

looks good even though I'm from a Pentecostal or Apostolic/AOG/CRC/CCC background (the acronyms belong to Pentecostal movements in Oz).

But I hope Logos won't tag me as Anglican because that's how the software currently sees me!

I guess Pentecostal since it lends itself to charismatic; plus, Catholics, Lutherans, etc. have their own BP so this would sell better (Pentecostal BP).

Without offense, how about “The Pentecostal/Charismatic Experience Base Package”

With a touch of offense “The Pentecostal slash Charismatic Experience Base Package”

Keep in mind, base packages are going to be more specifically defined along denominational/church/traditional lines, while bundles, add-on products, and collections will continue to be marked more specifically to 'viewpoints' (Calvinism, Arminianism, Chris

I've been thinking about this more and I think it really depends on how you select your resources. To satisfy the above conditions, I think you've already answered your question: it should be called a Pentecostal base package.

But a basic question is "How are you selecting the resources for this base package?"

Pentecostal churches/denominations have long-standing theological traditions (with some variation between denominations). If you choose resources that come specifically and exclusively out of those theological traditions, then you should call it a Pentecostal base package. One problem here is that there has been some long-standing resistance among some Pentecostals to enter the academic world of careful Biblical scholarship (perhaps because of the treatment they received from academics early on). This has thankfully changed, but the Pentecostal world is not flush with resources that fit the Logos model for study very well.

If Logos is going to cast a wider net in terms of the resources for this package, and include (e.g.) Vineyard resources, stuff from the Catholic, Anglican, Reformed, Lutheran and other charismatic writers, then you should call it what it would be: Pentecostal/Charismatic. But then this wouldn't be along a particular denominational line, nor follow a specifically Pentecostal theological tradition. It would be more inclusive and thus frustrate some Pentecostals who might strongly disagree with some of the material included, and some Charismatics as well.

From a marketing perspective, and from a resource perspective, I personally believe a Pentecostal/Charismatic collection makes the most sense. Most Pentecostals I know are quite aware of the theological differences they have with parts of the Charismatic movement, and most Charismatics understand the differences they have with some of traditional Pentecostal theology. Further a single base package with a wide range of perspectives would be most helpful to both groups (IMHO), even if some individuals don't think so.

In other words the name for the base package should reflect the qualifications you are using to include resources in it.

...and one more thing:

When we say Pentecostal, I think "theology".

When we say charismatic, I think "experience".

Is it just me?

Strangely - when I think of

Pentecostal, I think "experience".

Charismatic, I think "experience" - plus the "theology" of the host denomination.

So it probably is just you - or maybe just me?

Sad - but my experience leads me to these ideas.

Not worried about the name, I just want to see the package and it's contents, as well as it's cost.

You are most probably right. That is the only way to include all broad spectrum needed to be included.

P.S. What about Continuationism (as in Continuationism vs Cessationism debate?) That would be a very precise description, wouldn't it? I know, I know, it is not practical Smile

Jack Hayford did a lot of material titled Spirit filled - so let's just follow his lead and call it "The Spirit Filled Life Bundle."

He know that He appeals to both Pentecostal and Charismatics in his writing.

Really, I don't care what they call it. I do wonder if having separate offerings might be better. That way people who want one or the other can buy just what they want. If they want both (like I do) they can buy both.
