Apple announced their new desktop OS (OSX 10.10) called Yosemite. One new feature that I am excited to see is widgets in the notification center. I would love to see a Logos Bible! Widget, which would provide quick and easy access to your preferred Bible translation, without Logos being open. I would also like more mac-like typography... but well, you know. Stick out tongue

It should go without saying, but...

If you install the Developer Preview, or the Beta that comes out this summer, Logos may stop working. We will be doing everything we can to make sure Logos is compatible with the official final release of OS X 10.10 this fall, but we do not support beta operating system versions.

I have 10.10 installed and Logos 5 seems to be working with no issues although I haven't done to much in it, just a quick check. iOS8 is a different issue. Logos apps apprear to crash when the splash screen loads.

Before seeing this post, I posted in the beta group that it's working well so far. I know I'm living on the edge.

As for the widget, that's a great idea and I hope we see one too.

My favourite comment (thanks, Gabe):

Very disappointed there was no new hardware announced. I've already waited a long time to get a new computer. I'm not going to stumble along months more. And I'm definitely not going to buy the old Mini they're currently selling. And I don't really want a laptop or an iMac. And although I'm tempted by the Pro, it really bugs me to reward them for not producing a decent cheap computer.

If I could buy the simplest Pro, I'd probably go for it. I have some money coming, I don't need to pay the VAT, and I'm so incredibly tired of trying to work on an inadequate computer, but 256 GB is far too little. Grrr, Apple, I don't like you at all today.Super Angry

I know this is off topic.  I understand the Apple VAT but the other part of that, it seems to me, is that there is a resale market for the Apple hardware.  You could try "selling" your Mini through one of the on-line trade-in companies.  Take the proceeds and make up the difference toward a new model.  Just curious ... Why wouldn't you want a laptop or an iMac?

a) I'm not sure there are any in Sweden. b) I'd get a better price on the Swedish equivalent to eBay. ( c) I'm lousy at emptying computers while they still have value left.Embarrassed)

Steve:
Why wouldn't you want a laptop or an iMac?

Laptop:

  • More money for less computer.
  • Too small screen.
  • No numerical keyboard.
  • Takes up too much space when not used as a laptop.

iMac:

  • Fixed screen.

I'm considering a big screen that can be used both for the computer and as TV.

Surely a mini refresh is on the way this summer? Either that, or its getting the axe. Roll Eyes

Intel is holding everyone (including Apple) back right now. Broadwell isn't ready for primetime, and Haswell refreshes can only satisfy for so long.

Yes, yes you have. Stick out tongue

I'm sure new ones will be out before too long... probably before the end of the summer.

I'd love to have a Mac Pro. My first Mac was a Pro... or then called a Power Mac G5. We had Apple computers growing up, and then I went off to college and entered a decade long wilderness called windows.

The Pro might not be a bad choice for you, since it is the most upgradeable. Smile

Here's my setup that I find works very well for me.

- MacBook Pro

- Apple USB keyboard with numeric keys

- Apple wireless mouse

- Dell UltraSharp 24" monitor

The monitor and keyboard serve as a workstation at my desk. When I need to, I just unplug and go.

The mouse? It goes wherever I go.

The opinion on the web after the event seemed to be that since it wasn't announced now, it isn't likely to arrive until they can ship it with Yosemite. Though if I buy something, I bet it will arrive within two weeks. Regardless of when I buy.

I've wondered the same.

It's funny how we react to money. The Pro feels so incredibly expensive. Then, some months ago, it dawned on me that it actually costs [slightly] less than my car did, is far cheaper to maintain, and would be used many hours a day, while the car is only used a couple of hours a week. Suddenly it seemed a lot more reasonable and defensible. But I would prefer to buy it because I've decided that it's the best choice for me, and not because it's the only choice Apple gives me.

At least they've finally fixed the supply. The shipping is down to 3-5 days.

Unfortunately a MacBook takes up at least twice as much space on the desk as a Mini does. Space I don't really have.

I don't think the mini is getting the axe. That is a perennial worry, but it continues to get an occasional update, albeit "under the radar."

As for hardware announcements: Apple really hasn't been doing that much at WWDC in recent years. They have had special events and unannounced releases. I <think> the update will come this year, but it might be near or after Yosemite...

The last three updates (2010, 2011, 2012) came in June, July and October.

It's fun to speculate and I've been trying to think what they could do to the MacBook Pro and iMac at this point.  No new Intel CPU's in production.  Both platforms have the latest Haswell processors and updated Fusion Drives, better standard memory configurations, etc.  I'm thinking the MacBook Air with Retina is coming.  Minor updates to the iPad with the inclusion of the Touch ID home button.  Larger screen iPhone.

I think those are the things that we will have by this coming October.

Great idea! On my Windows computer I keep another program installed just for this reason. On my Mac, I don't have a second Bible program. So I would love to have such a feature for quick references. Ergatees

Too late for me. I've waited far too long already.

I wish there was a Pro with a 1 TB Fusion Drive.

I've got a Mini (from Fall 2012) and with 16 GB RAM should be just fine. I love an excuse for buying a new computer, but I love adding to Logos more. Geeked

They just lowered the prices on the current Minis. I think that pretty much rules out a new one before the fall.Sad And it's already been longer than ever before:
