What happened to all the Afrikaans Resources?

This question is for Logos, but please allow me to reminiscence a bit.
A Few years ago Logos was also situated in South Africa and they offered some great South African resources, a lot of which was in Afrikaans (my native language). They had a few special resource bundles for Afrikaans users. My New Testament Professor introduced us to Logos when it was still version 1.6 (on a number of stiffies [:D] - which I still have ) running on Windows 3.0/1. I also bought the Add-on versions of the Afrikaans Bibles and the Hebrew and Greek Bibles.
I remember upgrading to packages like Bybel Biblioteek in Logos 2.1, Lesbou en Onderrig CD and the Logos Bybelsagteware Reeks X in Libronix. These packages had some great Afrikaans resources.
I have met some younger generation theologians/pastors and some of them do not know about Logos. Strange as it may be, I quickly introduced them to the power of Logos 5. Unfortunately, we discovered that the Afrikaans resources are no longer available. This is truly disappointing. I know the Afrikaans market is not large, but will it be possible to include some Afrikaans resources again?

We are in discussions now to bring the resources back to Logos. We hope to conclude this process as soon as possible.

Nice to be noticed, even if Afrikaans users are not a major segment of the market.
It is always sad if existing Logos resources are withdrawn due to publisher restrictions or whatever reason. A lot of money went into the production of Logos resources and it is a pity that they can no longer be acquired by users.
Looking forward to buy some Afrikaans resources I missed back then.
Hopefully all Afrikaans titles would then be available on the mobile platform as well, which is currently not the case.

As a pastor in Australia with several Afrikaans speakers in my congregation I would love having Afrikaans Nuwe Vertaling and to a lesser degree Afrikaans Ou Vertaling. I had to buy these resources in a much more inferior software system. It would make life much easier if I could have it all under the same umbrella (Logos).

I have both translations (1933/53 translation, also known as the Afrikaans Ou Vertaling and the 1983, also known as the Nuwe Afrikaanse Vertaling) in Logos. Then there is also Die Boodskap, Die Lewende Bybel and the Nuwe Testament vir Kinders available. I really hope these resources will be available again soon, and of course I truly hope they will add some great new ones in the future.

I use them both in e-sword which is less than ideal, but at least I have them.

All previously purchased Afrikaans resources are still part of my library.
The reason why these resources are no longer available for purchase is due to publisher restrictions/rights. The same kind of thing that happened to some of the Moody titles. The good news is that Logos is re-negotiating terms with these Afrikaans publishers and these titles could in the future be available again for purchasing in Logos.

Yes. No resources are "lost". I still have all Afrikaans resources I bought. My main point was that it is sad that the "new generation" (for lack of a better word) of Afrikaans users will not have access to these resources when they sign up with Logos now. There is some great Afrikaans resources available so hopefully Logos will be successful.

I'm sorry for the lengthy delay. We just completed all the licensing issues in December. Since the Afrikaans resources were produced so long ago, the tagging needs to be updated. We will begin this process this month. If you already own the resources, the updated editions will be made available automatically. If you are not already an owner, the resources will appear on prepub soon.

Is there any updates or an ETA for when the Afrikaanse Nuwe Vertaling will be available?
I live and work in an Afrikaans Community and it is frustrating to be able to use Logos for my Theological Studies, but when I prepare lessons and materials for church and sunday school, I have to resort to online Bibles in order to access the Afrikaanse Nuwe Vertaling.
My pastor has it on his Logos 6 edition, although it was transferred across from when he updated from Logos 4 to Logos 6.
I will be over the moon if I can get access to the Afrikaanse Nuwe Vertaling in Logos 6!

How long does the re-tagging take?
Is there any new developments? I am really in need of the Afrikaans Bible on Logos. I work in Afrikaans but study in English and it is such a hassle to have to look for alternative online afrikaans bibles which I can't use from within Logos.

In Jan 2016 it was said that the Afrikaans resources would be in pre-pub "soon".... It is now 9 months later and it doesn't seem as if this baby will be born. 😿

Hi all,
Seeing as Logos can't give us an exact date or more detailed info, I just contacted the Bible Society of South Africa and had a chat to them. The person I spoke to, is the one in contact with the CEO of Logos and he said that he received an email this morning again (15 Nov 2016) and he that they are still working on updating the Afrikaans Bible into Logos, but that the Afrikaans Bible for the Afrikaans community is a must. So it will be happening.
The guy I spoke to says he hopes to know by Thursday, maybe, when the Afrikaans Bibles will be released. They are busy updating the tags etc for the 1983 and 1953 translation and unsure whether they will make both available or only the one or the other. However, he assures me that there is a good chance that it will appear by February 2017.
Now that I have the name of the person at the Bible Society to whom I can speak, I will follow up with him again in February and post feedback here. So stay tuned.

Any idea on when an Afrikaans Bible version will be available. I prefer the 1953 version, but at this stage any Afrikaans Bible will be welcome.

Faithlife has a system knowing as pre-pub once they have enough pre-orders [please note no one is charge until the product is shipped], they will put it in the production queue. At that point it can be anywhere from a couple months to up to over a year to get released (The Grail Psalms (2 vols.) for example has been under development for over 2 years now (indeed I ordered back in 2013), but I would expect there is something holding it up). As of late if enough pre orders are not made in what FL considers a reasonable amount of time the offering is removed and project is cancelled. Currently we were given a list of a couple dozen collections that are do to be purged on March 19th. See: PRE-PUB in Danger--fortress studies on passages in the gospels Thankfully we were given a 30 day notice to try to rally support, like the one I put here we went from about 50% to almost there... will we make it I don't know, but just wanted to let you and others know that having these in the FL pre-pub system is no guarantee they will ever be released and there is a likelihood unless they are under contract in a couple years (may be less in time even), they will be removed.

This is a situation I find myself in in 2021. My question to logos is: We paid for those resources right? Why are we the denied them in Logos? This goes against the Faithlife values.
Miskien ouens moet julle my kontak, dan begin ons ons eie Bybel Sagteware in egte Afrikaans, net soos die Nederlanders gemaak het.

I don't understand your situation, maybe you want to explain. At least the situation from the time this thread was started to when it was last updated and now are totally different. All everybody ever asked about was the ability to buy Afrikaans resources, most urgently bibles. Several users confirmed that those who actually bought them back in Libronix and earlier days (probably on CD-ROM or even on floppy disks) still had them in their Logos libraries.

Ek gebruik Logos 9 en het toegang tot al die Afrikaanse bronne wat ek jare gelede geloop het (as ek reg onthou was dit die Afrikaanse Biblioteek in Libronix). Miskien moet jy net kyk dat jou lisensies reg oorgedra is.(I am using Logos 9 and still have access to all die Afrikaans recourses I bought years ago in the (as I recall) Afrikaanse Biblioteek in Libronix. Maybe your licenses were not carried over correctly.)

Dankie (Thank you). Ek gebruik Logos sedert 2003. My “order history” op logos.com bevestig dit. Ek het nog die 2.1c opgradering gekoop wat so reflekteer. Hier by Walk Thru the Bible in JHB opgetel. Ek het pas my papier werke geskenk aan ‘n bilioteek. My broer is Proff by die AP
k Akademie en in ons gesprekke se ek ewe braaf die is in Logos en tot my verbasing is dit weg. Nou die slaggat is dat ek Logos vertrou het om dit voort te dra soos hulke beloof het. In due trek na ons nuwe huis het ek die heel oudstes verloor.
My vraag is dat al daardie bronne wetlik deel van die Logos Bibioteek was en nog moet wees, maar dit wil voorkom volgens hierdie blog inskrywing het Logos op die een of ander stadium “tags” verander in die leer formaat en toe nie al die Afrikaanse bronne opdateer nie.
Ek is seker die nuwe generasies sal bereid wees om vir die lisensies te betaal sou dit beskikbaar wees.
Logos en Faithlife se “claim to fame” is dat hulle globaal is en kleiner gemeenskappe onderseun. Nou ons was goed ingeberger of veroordeel die waardes soos gepubliseer

Vandag is daar genoeg “open source” platvorms waarmee ons kan wegspring. Dit is tog hoekom die taal deur die GRA in 1881 op die been gebring is en nou moet ons dit nie in die niet laat verdwyn nie.

Ek het begin met Logos in 1996 (nog voor Libronix). Ek het nog al my Afrikaanse bronne wat ek deur die jare aangekoop het (totaal 112). Kan jy 'n paar van die boeke noem wat jy kort? Dan kan ek kyk of dit in my biblioteek is.
Het jy daardie tyd, toe jy die boeke by Walk Thru the Bible gekoop het, geregistreer of 'n backup van jou lisensie gemaak? Dalk kan ons nog iets doen0 -
I'm still not sure I understand (using google translate), but it seems there may be a misunderstanding about what happened. The technical update to the "tags" that was talked about for a while only delayed to (re-)appearance of the three Afrikaans bibles some years ago.
The problem with other old resources was that back in the early days, it seems that publishing rights for things on CD-ROM were often contracted like publishing rights for a specific edition of a book: You print X-thousand of them in a batch and put them into your warehouse. Sell them as you like and can - if the batch is empty, you are done with it. If you want to print more, you need a new contract. Or maybe the contract even allows to print another batch of CD-ROMS - but not the distribution over the internet. This happened to other products as well (the SESB CD-ROMs for example, which were produced by the Dutch and German Bible Societies, but had many bibles in international languages). Maybe it was even more complex in South Africa due to the local distributor company.
My understanding is that FL effectively lost the right to sell those resources that are technically available and perfectly valid. They would like to sell them, but they were prohibited to do so by law - however they make them (i.e. the resources they have files for) available to all users who can prove they are legit owners of the CD-ROM version. FL needs to recontract with the rights holders (publishers, bible societies etc) in order to sell those resources - it happened with most of the SESB content over time, and with the three Afrikaans bibles as well.

Ok my Notebook breather its end of life, so I Setup a old Desktop as a new Laptop is just not affordable.
Dusted of my i7-960 on a Gigabyte Z77M Motherboard and 32GB DDR3 RAM. with Windows 10 Pro Build 19043.1151, Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0
I then downloaded Logos 9 Basic. (9.6 SR-29.6.0.0024).The only other software at this stage is MS-Office and Kindle.
All Afrikaans resources are back.
My thinking around this:
The ultimate option is to start fresh. You might have all your resources, but miss out on features as those are billable items.
I ran into quite a number of technical issues, that I did resolve after much reading online, going as far back as L4 posts on the forums and Outside on technical forums..
1. Logos likes a very stable environment. No driver issues, not even slightly. I found the app crying about my AMD Radeon drivers and the solution that worked is downgrade the driver by 2 versions.
2. Logos like its own and fast hard disk. I installed a add-on card with NVMe SSD just for logos.
3. Logos does not like a slow Internet connection and thus I upgraded my computers Wifi connection. TP-Link PCI-e adaptor.
4. Logos runs wild when re-indexing the Library, but behave when resources is downloaded.
I suppose all is well now, but the future will teach me I suppose.
STILL MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THAT THE AFRIKAANS REOURCES IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE ON THE WEB STORE AND THUS NOT AVIALBLE TO THE NEW GENERATION.

Human Bosman, you are correct that Faithlife does not currently sell many of these resources you are referring to. Unfortunately, these were licensed to a third party that is no longer in business, and we don't currently have permission to sell them.

It's good to hear that all the resources have reappeared, that is always our pre-eminent concern.
In regards to the availability of these resources, as Andrew has indicated, this is a bit of a complex subject, as these resources were originally produced by a third party, and as such relicensing them is a more complex task.
However, I am happy to report that we are currently in conversations with the Bible Society of South Africa to add some additional resources for pre-pub, so keep your eyes out for those. While I don't want to make any promises about being able to relicense the previously built resources, we are always looking to expand our catalogue, both in English and beyond.

Hi I am one of the lucky few that have afrikaans resources that I obtained in the early days of logos. I see logos now provides the 1933 and 1983 translations.
Faithlife is a business with a christian heart and they need to prioritise according to demand. there is two request for Afrikaans bibles and if you are interested to obtain and strengthen your library please go there and vote for the folowing two books

You could add your requests at https://feedback.faithlife.com/boards/logos-book-requests but we as Afrikaans speakers need to show our interest and intent by voting for the publications and preorder when it becomes a reality in that way we can continue with the legacy we have so dearly build up.
We had a close relationship with Logos in the early days. Now afrikaans is used worldwide by expatriats. I believe that there iare sufficient numbers of users out there. share the links above with all your firnds that have an interest in expanding the Afrikaans library on logos.
