Since the first post (http://community.logos.com/forums/p/85156/596989.aspx#596989) we have continued to update and improve our digital asset manager.

The original post is still relevant, and copied here:

This is an invitation to a beta / experiment.

Do you have photos (that you took / own) of the Holy Land, or related places or artifacts? Would you be open to sharing them with other Logos users -- either by licensing them to Logos in exchange for software credit, and/or through a form of Creative Commons or Public Domain licensing?

What about other images? Church media, custom presentation art, etc.?

There you can upload photos (and Word documents, PDF files, PowerPoints, etc.) and tag them with the Logos Controlled Vocabulary (Bible people, places, events, references, etc.) as well as any heading in Wikipedia.

Think of it as a cross between Flickr and Scribd with a lot of Bible-knowledge built in.

During this experimental phase you can upload and tag whatever you'd like -- but others can see and download it. There are no access controls in place, so don't upload anything private or secret or copyrighted by others.

The system will allow any user to add tags, descriptions, metadata, and even to mark favorites and assign star ratings. (And download the original file, or a smaller rendering of it.)

All changes to metadata are logged with the identify of the user who makes the change, and all downloads of original files are recorded.

You can set the Rights and Copyright statement for anything you upload, so if you want to make something public domain or Creative Commons, you can. But uploading doesn't automatically give up or assign any of your rights -- we're just experimenting.

Questions:

What do you think of the digital asset manager? Is it easy to use? Easy to learn?

Do you have media you'd license to Logos / share with other Logos users? What kinds? Under what conditions?

What media do you wish you had well-indexed access to for Bible study, sermon preparation, teaching, etc.?

Would you be interested in a private version of this asset manager to store/manage documents for your church? The church logo, photos, PDFs of newsletters and forms, Word documents (constitution, statement of faith, etc.)....

Seems quite easy to use,

Photos of the Holy Land: planning a trip next Spring so will see if any useful shots emerge from that trip.....
(are you looking for anything specific ?)

Would be useful to have a well indexed media / resource library available to everyone at the church instead of various separate local ones for the Proclaim preparation team the web site team and those preparing sermons or teaching / small group sessions (all have some key photos / media files in common but can you ever find anything that you know you have and someone else asks for.... rarely.... )

Joined - however

I not (at least I didn't think I was!) stupid - but I haven't not a clue how this works - the amber site looks like a work in progress.

Is there any source of guidance for this.

Shalom

How can I get software credit for my photos? I didn't find it.

We haven't built a system for that yet; right now this is just an experiment and to collect feedback. If you have photos we want to license, though, we could just look at what you uploaded, tag the ones we want and come to terms with you on credit. We just haven't set that program up yet, or even decided what we'd pay, etc.

I'm going sooner (unless things deteriorate to the point that the planes don't fly and/or my insurance company won't cover me), so I'm echoing the question.

Any progress or are we still in the experimental stage ?

Just back from a 14 day trip covering Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Galilee with visits to Sebastia, Nablus, Jericho, Qumran, Masada, Hebron and the Golan (including Baniyas, Kursi). Will post photos as time allows, starting with Jerusalem (once have them better sorted and organized).

It's still up and you're welcome to submit stuff to it. We can consider it from submission there.

The experiment didn't result in as much use as I'd hoped, but it's still a good mechanism to submit things to us for consideration, and we'd still like to license more great content.

I should add that we are looking for 'professional quality' images for adding to the media library. (In other words, not the iPhone photos I'd take on a trip!) So if you want to start by submitting a few of your favorites images, I can have our team take a look and see if they'd meet our needs -- and offer coverage we don't already have -- and then we can get back to you before you put a huge amount of effort into uploading. (Though it is just drag-and-drop, and will automatically associate with your account.)

Thanks Bob: Will pick through what I have and try to upload the better ones.  I recognize you already have many of the key areas covered. Smile

I had never even heard of this until yesterday. And I think people are probably confused on scope, use, and purpose. Either that or I just haven't quite understood the vision for it.

All my photos are in Jerusalem. Whenever I get back there, I will check them out and see what I have.

I could see using this to share antique hymnals and songbooks. When I get time, I try a bit of sheet music.

MJ, probably you already know all about Hymnary.org. If not, it's well worth a look.

Have uploaded some of my photos
(more than a few as Amber is an easy way to share these with others who were on the trip).

Let me know if I should continue...
