Does anyone know why no volume number is given when citing the AYBD? Is there any plans to change that fact? Thanks.

This is also true for the ISBE. Is this the pattern in all multivolume works?

I also noticed that some Citation Styles in Logos do not offer Volume numbers for Multi volume works. It is a real pain when trying to cite works. All is not lost.  If you change the citation style under Program Settings you could perhaps find one that will give you the info you need. Although, most of the citation styles that do offer the volume number is not really usable in a Word Document (RIS Style being one example). Here is a list of the styles that do show the volume number (in one way or the other):

BibTex

DIN 1505

Harvard

Refer/BibIX

RIS

You should play around until you find one that does work for you.

This is speculation on my part, but I would guess that when you have a resource that is solely organized in alphabetical order there is no need for a volume number.  One looking for the reference in a hard copy would simply go to the appropriate volume ... A-C, D-G, H-J, etc.

yeah, but in this case there's no need for a page number either.

Giving 'page 160' without telling it's p. 160 in Vol 3 is the bug. (well some books will simply continue the pagination, many journals do that, too)

No logic is involved. It's all up to the citation style / house style.

Some citation styles are just tedious, still one needs to follow them without question

Good point.  Thanks for that clarification.

Randall,

What style are you using? APA 6th edition is the default for Logos 5 and I can confirm that for AYBD there is no volume listed. We just need to update the APA style we're shipping to fix that. I'll file a case to review all the styles with AYBD and make sure it's included where necessary.

Tom,

you may find that the missing volume runs accross various styles shipped by Logos, as indicated by Sarel above. And it seemed to me he's right when I tried citations from ISBE Rev. Ed (5 Vols).

That said, when you are checking APA 6th edition, there's another bug that makes this style show two dots/periods in the citation. This seems to be unique to APA style. You can see this here in another thread where the GNT in Byzantine Textform is shown.

It's required for the SBL style, too. See this thread.

Hi Tom,

I'm using Turabian. Thanks for looking into this. ISBE also is missing volume numbers when cited using this style.
