So I crossgraded to L6 and my order page says that I should have some new media resources like:

1. Artifacts from the British Museum

2. Beitzel Photo Library

and a few more.  These do not appear in my library.  Anyone have any ideas?  I tried "Update Now" and the message said that I had no resources to update.

Thanks,

John

These are media collections that show up as you search for things in Media search. We do not currently have a way to browse all of or search for all of the images in one of those collections as a whole. We have had discussions about how to best expose those to users. The Beitzel photo library was over 15,000 images last time I checked, so downloading them all to a users computer isn't always practical.

A media search for Beitzel did return around 13,000 images for me. So that might be a good way to get an idea of some of the images provided by that media collection.

We have about 50 slides with British Museum artifacts (times 2, since we have both 4:3 and 16:9 versions of each). But there's no easy way yet to see them all.

In the meantime, try Media Search (All Resources) for terms like "tablet", "prism", or "Sargon" to see a number of examples.

Thanks!  I'll try it through a Media search.

We've updated the tagging, so a Media Search for "British Museum" should now return a list of all the slides.

One thing to point out -- a lot of this material is copyrighted, and hence unusable in many significant ways. It would be nice if -- like Bing and Google image searches -- there was a way to restrict the material to images that are free to use, or public domain, etc. Otherwise, you're going to be looking through several hundred pictures and trying to figure out if they're copyrighted based just on the url given when you hover over the image.

In general, if it's an image in the Logos Media Library section, you can use it freely for your teaching and presentation purposes. I need to double-check to make sure that's true for the Artifacts from the British Museum slides, but i believe it is. It's certainly true of

  • Beitzel Photo Library
  • deSilva Teaching Materials
  • Lexham Bible Background Slides
  • Faithlife Study Bible Media
  • Preaching Themes Slide Art
  • Logos Stock Media
  • Verse of the Day art
  • Visual Copy templates
  • Biblical fine art
  • Images of notable people (coming soon)

Images in the Online Results section are drawn from the web, and we haven't done all the work to track down the rights for these. Instead, we redirect you to the original URL so you can determine what the license is and how it applies to your situation.

We specifically described our use (and the need of our users to use the slides in presentations) to the British Museum, and you are okay to use these in presentations, classrooms, courses, etc.

The Logos Media Library is designed to be an aid for preaching and teaching, and you can use the content in classrooms, courses, etc. (Republication or use in a published book, of course, would require a more careful check of the license, and permission in some cases.)

Wondering if these should be made accessible through a media collection tool (like interactive media). In essence, this would automate the search. Rationale: these are great resources but they can remain buried deep in the library and the user not take much advantage of them unless he/she happens to stumble on them. To leave usage to haphazard occurrence seems a bit of a waste.

I think you are absolutely right.  I only came across them because of reading this thread.

(my emphasis)

Hi Todd

Has this changed in the last 15 months? Without knowing key terms for which to search these are pretty impossible to access.

I see that Now is advertising 'Logos Stock Images vol.2' ... I apparently have vol. 1 ... is the Beitzel library related to the stock images? Are they also   limited by the same need to have keywords? I cannot find anything to browse or open in my library.

Thanks.

The Media Browser (under Tools > Library) provides a more interactive way to search our media collections. Media Browser is licensed as part of Logos Now.

The Beitzel library is a collection of photos that were personally taken by biblical scholar Dr. Barry Beitzel on his many trips to Israel and the broader Mediterranean area. So the bulk of them cover biblical sites and their current appearance.

Stock Images, on the other hand, were taken by our in-house staff, and cover a wider variety of natural scenery as well as "conceptual" images (like shots inside churches, pictures of Bible, people studying, etc.).

Thank you.

I have not taken up the subscription service ... I have been waiting for it to reach a critical mass of features that have value ... and to be honest, an offer that might make the jump worth while! I do, however keep coming back, and watching the Beta features etc. :-0

If you make the step to sign up for Logos Now, I don't think you will ever regret it. I've been very impressed with the features they have created and continue to create on a regular basis.
