I do believe that much of the speed issues and the fact that the problems are sometimes intermittent is a direct result of how L4 syncs. I would prefer that the program select a time when it is not active to sync. This I believe would provide a more consistent experience regarding performance with L4.
L4 does not need to sync after every keystroke.

I agree...especially when searching.

Yeah, I'd prefer they waited to sync at all until after I'd been idle for a few seconds, or at intervals I could set like in Word's Autosave feature (every minute or 5 would be fine with me). I don't care about the miniscule possibility that my power might go out right in that space of time between when I did something worth saving and when they sync.

I was testing the speed search fixes this morning and as soon as I started typing, it started syncing. IMHO, the sync feature was contributing to the lag that I was seeing.
I think I would prefer it syncing once every [x] minutes (customisable of course) especially as we have a sync now command.
EDIT: and of course sync before exit

What if you could select between ...
1. Sync on start or shut down
2. Sync as it is now
3. Sync when told
4. Sync every XX minutes
I personally would choose either 1 or 4.

Agreed ... syncing as it is now disrupts work flow.

I'm not sure why it is downloading
There are other sequences, some longer than this.

Sync will attempt to download items every five minutes without any user interaction.
The first two which are ten seconds apart are also by design and are related to the previous upload.
Thanks
Scott
We will be changing the sync logic slightly for an upcoming beta to sync less frequently when a user is actively updating syncable content.
Thanks for your feedback.

Thank you! That should speed things up a bit, or at least give the perception of more speed which is sometimes all we need.
