Logos, you made me smile today. :-D
When I opened my email, this little gem from the Logos Lutheran list was waiting for me :-D
So I thought, this is really hot stuff, and everyone needs to know. That includes all the good people who, for some reason, are not lutheran. B-)
this is really powerful

Oh yes! I love that one.
This is another one that "how to read" reminds me of: The customer in Monty Python's Bookshop Sketch doesn't know how to read, even though he's shopping for all kinds of obscure (mostly non-existent) books, so the store clerk sits him down and reads to him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCM2nEBE0RY

This is classic book! I read it years ago and often refer others to it.

How did you know how to read it, though, if you hadn't read it to learn how to read books yet.

LOL. That's a good one. I really needed a good laugh today. Thanks.

Your question reminded me of this short excerpt from the book that made me grin at the time I read it:
"We assume—we must assume—that you, our reader, have attained ninth grade literacy, that you have mastered the elementary level of reading, which means that you have passed successfully through the four stages described. If you think about it, you realize that we could not assume less. No one can learn from a how-to-do-it book until he can read it; and it is particularly true of a book purporting to teach one to read that its readers must be able to read in some sense of the term."
