Is this set really that good of a commentary set?
Spurgeon's Commenting and Commentaries mentions 3 from this set:
Its not as packed as the original collection but then again Spurgeon is yet one man commenting on a definite window in history.
Thanks Paul
I would imagine that it would appeal more to those who want to do as close to exhaustive research as they can on Romans (especially if they don't have easy access to a theological library). At that cost, I don't think it is as appealing at a devotional or a pastoral level.
Spurgeon's Commenting and Commentaries mentions 3 from this set: The Sinner’s Sanctuary: Forty-Eight Sermons on Romans 8 by Hugh Binning"The writer of Binning’s Memoir says: “There is a pure stream of piety and learning running through the whole, and a very peculiar turn of thought, which exceeds the common rate of writers on this choice part of the Holy Scriptures.”"
Note this is also included in Binning's works, available on Community Pricing for $6.
An Exposition of the Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans by John Brown"By a Calvinist of the old school. Heavy, perhaps; but precious."
John Brown is already available in the first round of Classic Romans commentary. I am not sure why it is included in this upgrade https://www.logos.com/product/38387/analytical-exposition-of-the-epistle-of-paul-the-apostle-to-the-romans
Spurgeon's Commenting and Commentaries Curae Romanae: Notes on the Epistle to the Romans by W. Walford"Walford makes comments of considerable value; he does not stand in the front rank, but his mediocrity is respectable."
