Currently I am trying to learn new features in Logos 6.

Do you find "ask the author" helpful?  I really cannot get anything out of it.  Please let me know your experiences. Thanks!

I haven't used this yet. Looks interesting, but I'll see what the others have to say. There are times, not many, when I would call an author up on the phone and ask him questions about something I didn't understand in his book. Every author was very polite and patient with my questions.

Interestingly I just clicked on "Ask the Author" inadvertently while my Bible (NIV11) was open in Matthew, and it offered me the opportunity to ask a question of Bruce Metzger who is, of course, deceased! Seriously, though, I suspect this is something that will be developed further in the future, and I can't really see myself having much use for it at the moment. For a student, though, to be able to write in a paper that something was unclear in a particular book and that the author clarified it in a particular way could be a great way for getting some additional marks.

As I recall there are only a few authors involved in the program at the moment. However, they expect the number to grow over time.

As to the deceased individuals they have an expert in the writings of the individual to field any questions.

Yes, when the feature was announced they explained that in cases of dead authors there were sometimes experts on the author who agreed to answer questions.

I did one in the Textual Variants title from Lexham, but never got an answer.  Granted, these authors do have other things to be doing.  I am not sure how useful this tool will be but I do very much like the concept.

I wouldn't particularly expect speedy answers. Its something authors will fit into their schedules rather than prioritize, I would think.

Yes that is what I was saying.  To be honest, I would be amazed if I got an answer within a couple of months.  I know how busy authors/speakers are.  I'd rather them be writing new books for me to purchase Big Smile

Right now, there are a limited number of authors involved in the project--You can see a full list here: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/92638/644382.aspx#644382

Ask The Author is just as new to authors as it is to you! Please be patient when waiting for responses, there will be a learning curve for all of us.

The tool is still available for use even if an author has passed away or is not directly in control of their Faithlife Author group. Any question you post is viewable to all Logos 6 users who own that book--while the tool provides a unique opportunity to connect with authors directly from the book, it also provides a chance to connect with other readers directly from the book.

David,

Which book / author did you ask the question in / to?

I'll have to look it up again Kent, I don't remember the exact title.  It is Lexham Textual Variants whatever the name of that resource is.  I don't remember who I referenced it to, to be honest I was just trying out the feature so it wasn't that important.  However, I'll go look it up when I get home this evening.

Is there any place to see any questions you have asked consolidated in one place? I asked one on a dictionary, but I cannot remember which one!

No problem then, it's not urgent on my end either. Just here to offer assistance. A couple of our Lexham Press authors saw this thread and were concerned they had missed your question.

The tool should be up and running--any questions you ask will appear in that authors Faithlife group and they will be notified. If they have an answer to your question, I'm sure they'll get back to you as soon as they can!

I take it back, Rick Brannan answered the question.  For those interested in how it works:
