In Holman's collection there is a book called "That's easy for you to say".  This book is a helpful guide to pronouncing difficult Bible names.  Originally this book came with a CD so you can hear the Bible names pronounced.  Does anyone know if the sound files will be incorprated with this book? Mrs. or Mr. computer voice does not pronounce these names accurately.

That CD you are referring to is the version that works with a competing product. As a pastor I personally deal with people all the time who want to know how to pronounce biblical names.I installed the competing product on my father's computer just so my mom and dad would have this audio version of "That's easy for you to say" and Strong's talking concordance.  I have suggested several times that Logos make this book available with the audio capability. I was shocked when they published it without the audio. In my mind this is a no brainier.

When you think about it, it is the low end Logos base packages that need audio pronunciation more than the high end packages. At least some of those who purchase Scholars and above have had original language courses.

I agree.

How many times have I said "It's pronounced shuh-TEEM, shuh-TEEM."

Umm....that's not how the book in question says to pronounce it...assuming you're talking about Shittim.  It has the accent on the first syllable.  :-)

Well, I just checked AYBD and ISBE and they both agree with you. Hmm. When I was at Calvin Sem., John Stek told us to pronounce it the way I wrote it up there, suggesting this was the proper way to pronounce it in Hebrew. Checking my Hebrew lexicons, and if I remember my Hebrew accent rules correctly he was right (and who would I be to challenge Dr. Stek!).

Besides, it gets rid of the red faces and snickers to pronounce it according to the Hebrew rules.

I vote that we change the official English pronunciation of this Hebrew word to reflect more closely the Hebrew pronunciation.

I vote we don't worry about it. I have always taught a simple rule for pronunciation, "Say it quickly, say it with confidence because no one else knows either".

Frist day of Greek class, when the Prof taught us the three major pronunciation systems he was asked "which one did they use in Jesus' day?" His answer, "Since there where no cassette recorders, we can't really know."

Now, I am going to run and hide while people debate my condition of salvation Stick out tongue

I couldn't help but fire up the "other program" and hear how they pronounce this word.

In "That's Easy of You to Say" - *** im

In "Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary" - ***-teem'

The problem is that the way our English Bible spell certain names are not according to transliteration, but according to English conventions.

Efven with these shortcomings, I still think most people would find audio pronunciations helpful.

Richard,

I guess the forum software does not like the way the "other program" pronounces it either!  Wink

I think the same english word Shittim is used for two Hebrew words. One is Strong's number 7848 and is pronounced "***-taw" example Exodus 26:32 . The other is Strong's number 7851 and is pronounced "***-teem"  example Jos 2:1.  In both examples the KJV translate the words  Shittim.

But all fun aside with our little "dirty" word the fact remains that Logos users would benefit greatly with the audio or pronounciation version of That's Easy for You to Say.

When I stagger into the genealogies I have two choices either go to the other product and use "That's Easy for You to Say" or simply say "bubba and his friends." and avoid trying to pronounce them.

That's good news that you are working on the audio pronunciation.  I also have the book with CD and was really disappointed with no audio.  I'm one of those lower end users. I have the Bible Study V4. I just do not need and would not use much of what's in either the Leaders or Scholars versions.

I'll also speak up for an improved Read Aloud feature.  That "voice" is TERRIBLE.

Looking at Logos product page => http://www.logos.com/product/7299/thats-easy-for-you-to-say-your-quick-guide-to-pronouncing-bible-names-3rd-ed noted lack of audio, following reference collection link, learned this resource is included with Scholar's.  Adding audio pronunciation would be appreciated.

As a Logos user, noticed my orders => https://www.logos.com/user/orders has Hebrew Audio Pronunciations with status: "under contract".

A different order has a status with estimated delivery in Jan 2012.  Personally have no idea when for Hebrew Audio, which would include Bible names and more.

Thankful that Greek lemma pronunciations are usable in Logos 4.

Keep Smiling Smile

Well, Ephraim is pronounced Jeremiah.  Big Smile

Seriously though, I don't recall Stek saying anything about the pronunciation, but I was working on my own system.  Devil
