Oh, and how could I forget?!

Calvin's Ladder: A Spiritual Theology of Ascent and Ascension by Julie Canlis (Eerdmans, 2010)

Julie is a friend of mine and fellow Regent grad. This is an edited version of her PhD dissertation for the University of St. Andrews. It's a challenging book (I've read it all the way through) but very well written and worth reading! It has won two awards:

Templeton FoundationJohn Templeton Award for Theological Promise (2007)
Christianity TodayAward of Merit in Theology and Ethics (2011)

Awesome suggestions. Some of these were on a list I've sent on myself already, so should be on the way, but I will also send the others along.

Calvin's Ladder is a part of this collection: https://www.logos.com/product/43926/eerdmans-reformed-thought-and-history-collection

Hopefully we'll see it before too long.

Thanks much!

Jesse Myers:

Cool, thanks! I had not noticed that. I'm in on the pre-pub for the larger collection which that is a part of.

A few more titles I've come across:

The Theology of John Calvin by Charles Partee (Westminster John Knox Press, 2008)

The Theology of Calvin by Wilhelm Niesel; translated by Harold Knight (Westminster Press, 1956) - Amazon reviewer writes: "A Classic. Dated work by an early follower of Karl Barth that is paradigm shifting in its interpretation of Calvin. A must for those who are student's of the Reformer of Geneva (and Basel). Niesel approached Calvin from a completely different angle than previously and the result is this highly perceptive reading of Calvin's theology. Regardless of whether one agrees with him or not, this book is well worth studying, because of its new Christocentric paradigm in explicating Calvin's work."

Calvin's Theology of the Psalms (Texts and Studies in Reformation and Post-Reformation Thought) by Herman J. Selderhuis (Baker Academic, 2007)

Grace and Gratitude: The Eucharistic Theology of John Calvin by B.A. Gerrish (Wipf & Stock, 2002) - gets phenomenal reviews on Amazon

Thanks for your list Rosie. I picked up Michael Horton Calvin on the Christian Life; it was inexpensive and got good reviews.

Meanwhile, Jesus kept on growing wiser and more mature, and in favor with God and his fellow man.

Would be great to see some of these, particularly the works of T. H. L. Parker.

I've suggested a couple by Ronald S. Wallace here:

- Calvin's Doctrine of the Christian Life (Wipf and Stock, 1997)

- Calvin, Geneva and the Reformation: A Study of Calvin as Social Reformer, Churchman, Pastor and Theologian (Wipf and Stock, 1998)
