This page deals with political and social issues not religion, but it does give a feeling for how software can help organize the information behind various arguments, show both sides of an issue and insure a level of civility. http://debategraph.org/poster.aspx?aID=65

Now, I will admit to wanting argument mapping in Logos but I'm not really looking for something this complex.

This is a very helpful way to explore a topic.  It's interesting to see how others are developing applications and this certainly has the interaction benefits you mention.
