Logos for Mac 1

Help! I'm floundering!

I have just installed Logos for Mac and I've spent almost an entire day trying to figure out how to do some very basic stuff and I am just not getting it. I thought I was a pretty intuitive guy when it came to new software, but I'm totally lost here.

First question: Can someone point me to the right place to get help for learning how to use the software? Please don't point me to video tutorials. I live overseas and have very expensive internet access. I have read almost the entire help file included with the software, and I still can't do the following...

Second question: How do I search my Complete Works of Jonathan Edwards for everything Edwards said about 1 Peter 3, for example?

Third question: At DesiringGod.org, I can easily search Piper's sermons by scripture reference, but with the Logos collection I seem to be limited to either browsing them, or by doing a basic search of the text for "1 Peter 3" which brings up hundreds of hits, including within sermons on other texts.

Fourth question: As I work and look through various resources, I seem to have an increasing number of windows opening and I can't find anything. At this point, this isn't much better than pulling 10 books of the shelf and having them scattered all over my desk.

Fifth question: I bought Scholars Silver and the New American commentary is just not there, even though it says that it comes with the Silver package.

Sixth question: None of my products are activating. The dialog says they have already been activated by another user. I've tried synchronizing licenses, but no luck. I've sent an email to tech support but no response after a full 24 hours wait.

Seventh question: I have three resources that I ordered and that shipped to me, but that have no serial numbers with them (Grudem's systematic theology for example). Where am I supposed to find these.

I don't expect the forum users to answer all of these questions (though it would be nice if they did!), but I simply list them as a sampling of the kinds of issues I'm dealing with and I don't know where to go to get answers. I can't call tech support by phone because I am overseas, so I prefer written instructions... just can't find them.

Am I correct in assuming that when I paid to crossgrade from Windows to Mac for Logos 1 that I was crossgrading to an app that was no longer in active development, and that I now must pay again if I want to use a Mac version that is still being developed?

Deactivating and uninstalling Logos

Hi Guys,

Just looking for some advice. Im thinking about selling my copy of Logos Silver Edition for Mac and I was just wondering how to deactivate my registration with Logos so that the person who gets it can reactivate it under his/her own name. Does uninstalling it do this, or do i have to do other stuff.

Just a question - are we to assume that development on the Mac Logos Engine 1 has ceased? While we wait for a stable Logos 4 Mac, I'm still blessed by 1.2.2, and was curious if there is still any work being done on it.

I recently installed Logos 4 alpha on Macbook Pro. I have scholar's gold and the indexing has been going on for about 8 hours. How long does the indexing take?

By the way, the cross grade fees seem very reasonable for the new resources in Logos 4.

Hi Gang,

Just curious if anyone has played with Fusion, Windows 7 and Logos? I am guessing that until the Mac version has a bit more features, I am going to have to continue to run Fusion. If that's the case, I may need to look at retiring my copy of XP Pro for Windows 7. Has anyone tried this? What has performance been like and has there been any bugs? (yet?)

I just got Logos 4 alpha 3 and it keeps indexing everytime I restart the program it does an hour of indexing. It makes my computer run super slow. If you can make that stop that would be great.

I am hoping to get a little information, when inside some larger books and occasionally while doing searches my Logos 1.2.2 just unexpectedly quits. I was told that it is a big with PPC and Logos since it appears that Logos 4 will not be a Universal Binary can we expect some of the bugs to get squashed in 1.2.2 or do we have to come to terms with the fact that Logos is now an INTEL only item???? My powerbook g4 and imac G5 work flawlessly for most all my needs, and there is still a significant base of PPC machines out there. I know my machines are five years old but while one new computer might be in my future i know I can; t replace both and even the powerbook will have to wait for several more months.

Logos 4 and Indexing

When I went to bed last night the estimated indexing time remaining was about 15 hours. I left the Mac running over night. This morning the estimated indexing time remaining is still around 15 hours. I have a MacBook Pro 2.53GHz with 4GB of RAM. I also installed the Windows version of Logos 4 on my Mac using Parallels. That was done indexing before I went to bed last night. I'll see if the Mac version is done indexing when I get home from work today.

Error Message When Updating

Good Day,

When I load up Logos 4, I get this message: "Updates for Logos Bible Software 4 are ready to be installed. Click OK to install them now."

However, when I do, I get this message: "An error occurred while extracting the archive. Please try again later."

I have tried several times now (after restarting the computer) but the same thing always occurs. Any help is appreciated.

Can I load windows to a Mac computer and use the windows version of Logos ???? HELP ME!!!

I am going to buy the Logos software FOR SURE but I do not want to purchase the wrong version, or the wrong computer. I have my heart set on a Mac Book Pro for several reasons(Mainly digital recording; Live worship etc.) After some research I get the impression that the windows version out performs the Mac ver.(Is this true?) and can I just use windows on the Mac like I would on any other computer.

Changing Bible or Commentary in the Window Panes

Working on a Mac platform with the new Logos 4. My question is how do I determine which Bible or Commentary I want to show in the appropriate window panes? For example it currently brings up the NET Bible first followed by 3 tabs showing other bibles I can switch to. I want to prioritize that list and arrange the order - - same with the commentary pane.

I recently purchased LOGOS 3 for Windows, and did it soon (late) enough that I was able to download LOGOS 4 (Windows) for free. However, I use a MacBook Pro and was using Parallels to run L4. In reading the blogs I saw that there was a Mac version available and that I could download the engine for free. Which I have done.

However, it looks more like L3 than L4, and I'm wondering if I am missing something or downloaded the wrong engine. I realize that the Mac version is not finished yet but was surprised to see that it resembled L3. I'm excited to know that I'll be able to run L4 natively on my mac as running both systems really drains the battery.

A Question re: Usability

Good day all,

I am very hopeful that someone from Logos can let us all know when Logos 4 for Mac will be a usable product? My macbook spent all day yesterday, and all last night, indexing the current build (4.0.3.2697) and it is just as buggy and unusable as ever. I know we are supposed to get updates every few weeks (though it would seem I have had several since upgrading last week) but it would be good to have at least an estimate of when the program will be a functioning one.

NEED HELP

After a search in lets say exegetical guide and the search is all complete. I click on the scripture im searching and all I see is two empty spaces to type, and thats it. I see other things like apparatus, grammars, visualizations, word by word but thats all it says I see no resources.....Please help somebody. I have the leaders library V3 for mac and upgraded to Alpha beta V4.

I currently have Logos 3 running on Win XP (SP3) via VMware Fusion 3 on my MBP (SL 10.6.1). All of my resources are in a shared folder on the "Mac side" of my computer. With regards to Logos 4's indexing and overall performance, does it matter where my resources are located (shared folder or Windows folder)?

Hi Im hearing a lot of comments about the alpha 2 version and was wondering if its usable?. Im new to logos and bible software, and I want to buy the leaders bible software option, my question is if I bought this can I use it at this time?.

I read that I can test the current engine at the moment?.

Really want to know about whether the product will work if bought at this time or if its better to wait?.

I can't say I am too happy to find out that I have to pay another $69.00 to Alpha test another Mac application. I am shocked actually by this simple fact that I have paid for a sub par program that was promised more features which now I have to pay for again?

Or am I mistaken and I get a 4.0 upgrade for free???

Bought and downloaded upgrade from Logos 1.2 Mac to Logos 4 Aplha.

Installed it and it sees no resources ?

I also see there was a Windows version included so download that and no resources either (running under Fusion Windows 7)

So I must of missed something. Does the alpha work at all ?

Do I need to somehow install the resoures in the Mac Alpha

Are they posting something to me as well as the downloads?

How do I use the Windows version then if I have to wait for the Mac 4 version to get working? (again no resources)

Alls I have is the Logos 1.2 for Mac CD do I need to copy stuff from there somehow?

Yes I have Logos 1.2 installed on OS X already and it works fine still

Logos 4 for MAC vs Windows - disappointing on the MAC side

As a new MAC user (finally went to the dark side after years of resisting), I am still sort of caught between two worlds. So I endured the download and indexing of Logos 4 on my Dell laptop as well as my MacBook Pro (look 3 times as long on my new MacBook). I am very impressed with the new version of Logos on the Windows side, but less so on the MAC side. I understand that this is a pre-release, but unless I am missing something I do not see it as very functional in this pre-release state. This morning I am researching in Jeremiah, and I have (so far) opened my resources three times, because the program hangs because I did things such as (for example) clicked on the home button, or tried to open a book in a new tab instead of a floating window.

I hope this MAC version reaches the quality that the Windows version does quickly. I have eagerly (as has everyone, I am sure) awaited this new product, I do not want to drag around two laptops, nor do I want to set the MAC aside in the interim.

Kudos to Logos, though, on the excellent multi-platform product, even if its not quite there yet on the MAC side. The iPhone app was a nice bonus!

Frustration appeased for the time being...on to attempt #4.

Pre-Release Alpha 2

Hi all;

I finally succeeded on installing and running Logos 4 on Snow Leopard.

[If you installed and the App crashes on "logging in", you have to go to your library (home folder) and delete the file com.logos.LogosIndexer.plist ... why? No idea, but then it will open without a problem, recreating the same file]

But now that the application actually opens, I cannot do anything without it crashing.

This is what I see when I search for Luke 2:1 ... adding a Bible or Commentary will make it crash.

Any ideas?
