What is the experimental video player exactly......technically speaking...how does it differ from what is the standard video player in proclaim?

This is on Windows only.

We have identified several bugs within the Media Player (the video player Windows uses). The worst of these causes videos to not load and leak memory each time a load is attempted. This issue occurs more frequently when we use the video player in certain ways (for example the pattern of create player, load, play, unload, destroy player calls we make to the video player).

We have evaluated and found similar bugs in other third party video players.

With the 1.30 release we changed the way we use the Media Player to avoid the usage pattern that leads to this bug. We will now create more than half as many players and changed the call pattern for the players we do create. This was a big improvement in the environments we tested.

The experimental video player takes this a step further and creates a pool of players which are not destroyed when they are unloaded. This improved performance and reduced the instances of videos hanging over the 1.30 release. However, there is an issue when you load a video the first frame is not displayed which makes it appear as if the video has not loaded. To make things worse sometimes the frame appears then goes away or opposite leading to what people describe as flicker. As with all software issues this can be fixed but we want to be sure this approach works for our customers who have a wide range of machines and environments. So we have allows people to opt into using the experimental player to gather this data.

We encourage people to use the player when making their presentations or to just test things out. We do not recommend using the player for service.

Launch Proclaim while holding down the control key. This will bring up the login screen that includes the option to "Use experimental video player".
