Hi all,

I hide a resource via the setting dialog. I want to unhide it now. But from what I read, when it was hidden, the associated file was deleted from the computer. How can I go about reinstall particular resources that were hidden when I was working from a netbook with limited space.?

Thanks,

Jim Adams

Simply unhide it. When you are connected to the internet, Logos4 will simply reload it. If you aren't connected to the internet, the most you would have to do it connect then type "update resources" in the command box.

Thanks MJ,

That didn't work--at least not yet. When I update resources, at the bottom right of the screen I get, "No Updates Available. I have the biblical languages logos 4 package and I thought the ESV and/or NIV were included. Maybe that is why it won't upgrade. I need to check that.

Yes, ESV and tons of other English versions should be included with the Original Language package, and I have only NASB, NRSV, RSV.  The rest are missing from my library and they are not in my hide section. Not sure what to do.

Has anyone seen any marked performance improvements by hiding resources?

...and if they are unhidden as soon as you connect to the net...what purpose does it serve?

They are only unhidden when you remove them from the hidden resources list.

Hiding resources saves disk space, unclutters your library, and prevents books you don't want to see from being searched.

Bubba,

Thanks for your quick response. The resources I hid and then unhid, both while connected to the Internet show up nowhere in the program. I would be willing to reinstall everything to default to factory settings if possible.  I see two ESV files in the Resource sub-directory, but none of the other English version Bibles II had hidden?

When I first hid these resources, Logos support personnel said that hiding would also remove the resource from the disk and free up space. That's why I did it. My netbook had only 16gig ssd. I now have a new Dell. I hope we can get this resolved soon before I head off for DMin class next week.

I've had trouble passing new resources from L3 to L4 the last two days. I thought it was the beta but Logos may have a temporary glitch. Post it as a bug.

I did have one time in the past when I unhid a resource, and it didn't show up until after I ran the "update resources" command in Logos.

I just now hid a resource and restarted:

  1. When it came back up, it wasn't in my library (as expected).
  2. After waiting for the indexer to finish its work of removing the file from the index, I removed the resource from the Hidden resources list and restarted Logos again.
  3. When it came back up the second time, the indexer process came up and told me it was downloading a file, and then asked me to restart Logos again.
  4. When Logos came back up the third time, my resource was back.

If that's not happening for you and the "update resources" command does nothing, I suggest you call support.

Tried this earlier today. Still no luck. Maybe we can work this out. I would be satisfied with a clean, original install.

Thanks. I'll keep digging.

Thanks for the knoledgable responses. I too am willing to hide resources to conserve disk space.

Naturally this leads to another question....is there a way to hide multiple volumes, all at once...or do they have to be hidden individually?

I believe they can only be hidden one at a time.

Yep, I hope that changes in the future.  I am licensed for about 2500 resources and I have hidden 600+ of them, one at a time. Bleh. I hope Logos never forgets that setting.

No Kidding! Did you have to buy a new mouse after all that clicking and dragging?

Maybe i  can shame them into looking at the problem.Smile

An "inferior" program i used before allowed you to exclude entire collections at install.

It was probably over a span of time....Hide the targums one day, the earliest new testament greek manuscripts the next, and unwanted commentary set or two on another day, and then books I consider to be useless fluff, etc....it adds up.  All stuff that I'm given in the base libraries that I don't want to see on a daily basis.

What ESV files do you see and how does it behave in L4?

According to the comparison chart you wont have all Reverse Interlinears in your Library, so I wonder if any are really missing!

Hey Dave, here are the files in my resource directory. Many of them are hidden, but when I test the functionality by unhidding one, it doesn't appear in my library. Not downloaded to my logos4 over the Internet.

I will download the comparison file you posted and check the files against this list. In the meantime, if you see something amiss, let me know.

You only have the complete set of resource + reverse interlinear (RI) files for NRSV.

The following are missing the resource (.logos4) file whilst the RI files are pesent:

  • AV1873
  • ESV
  • KJV1900
  • LEB  (Lexham English)
  • NASB95
  • NKJV
  • NLT

In theory you don't have the licence in Original Languages library for NKJV and NLT in any form!

You need to get in touch with Customer Support to resolve this.
