Okay I do not have any inside information but I believe that a number of things point to a late fall release of Logos 7.  That means there are about 4-5 six week release cycles between now and then ... excluding the version currently in beta. Now Logos has probably already decided on the "featured features" for the release ... but now is the time to toss your smaller improvements into the hopper - giving them time to be read, prioritized, designed, implemented ...

My approach tonight was to go through each of my normal Verbum tasks watching for things that frustrated me or that could easily be improved. I have not given generic requests like "simplify x" or "improve y" unless I had a concrete idea of how to do it. This allows Faithlife to know what I mean not guess and come up with something I like even less.

Get your proposals in the hopper before this particular window of opportunity closes.

Just watch ... now, I'll be proved completely wrong on my guess as to a release timeframe ....

My call is on October/November release.

My suggestions are:

  1. Have a build-in pdf/epub/mobi converter.
  2. Have Logos' own official collections not people's.
  3. Have a search for dummies with easy buttons for strings.

Not sure how worthwhile an exercise this is for us rabble but if we do not have faith what have we?

My vote would be to clean up Search a little - I suspect everyone uses searching each day. It's not a glamorous investment of time, it doesn't enhance the marketing list of features in version 7, but is very helpful to users.

The three Search improvements that would be most helpful to me:

1. Highlight search results in Notes

2. Improve integrity of search results in footnotes

3. Capability to Syntax Search WIVU Constituency Trees

Please elaborate what collection(s) are desired.  Faithlife Group Logos Product Collections has 127 Collections published by Faithlife; anticipating Logos 7 and Verbum 7 Base Package collections to be added by Faithlife.

I always thought all those collections are more like wiki-style, where everyone can do whatever they want & not an official closed-system collections where people can't mess with them. I don't want regular joes to edit my stuffs, I want Logos to do them, that's why I'm paying for quality.

Plus, they need to be built-in inside Logos 7 and not on a group or something. Make it where it is easy for me to delete or add or search a collection within the software itself.

Most of the collections you find on FL are user managed.

HOWEVER the group previously mentioned is managed by FL.

Currently Faithlife group followers or members need to visit a web page to copy collection into their own library => https://faithlife.com/logos-collections/documents so a Logos 7 suggestion would allow document list to appear in Logos or Verbum for copying or updating.

Once document(s) have been copied into your library, the document(s) can only be modified by you. Optional is visiting web page later to see if any document(s) have been updated and choose to update your document copy to match published update.

Verbum has three built-in collections:

Three collections appear in Logos after using command "Set Verbum to Yes"; the rules for these built-in collections are maintained by Faithlife.

Thankful for dynamic collection option for searching; please describe what would be easier.

If want to search resources, which have subject that includes apologetics, can open Basic Search for Everything, then click Everything followed by entering Library filter:

subj:apologetics

Clicking number of resources restricts search to list of resources without using a collection.

Keep Smiling 4 Jesus :) the collections that come to my mind are ones that are used in searches e.g.

  • systematic theology
  • biblical theology
  • confessional documents
  • grammars
  • implicit collection in Ancient Literature, Catholic Topical Index, Liturgy ...
  • tagging created "collections" for all Biblical entities ...

Keep Smiling for Jesus...

Thanks for the reply.. But I knew all that you said.

That's is the reason why I propose the suggestions because the current system right now takes too many steps.

And the search button/area needs to be simplified. Kinda like search with morph after you type @.... Everything simple not making us too remember the operator and rules. If you've noticed..how many questions here on how to search for something because people (98% of Logos users) are not familiar with the operators. The way tech culture moves, smart companies make things easier for consumers not difficult.

My list:

  • Creation of "projects"***
  • Customizable section dividers in prioritization list.
  • Creation of new highlighters (specifically new colors)
  • Continued development of customized reading plans.
  • Creation of crowd sourcing tools & program to help fix Vyrso resources
  • ability to download on a subset of one's library to the app

***(From another post): "I have long been a proponent of the concept of "projects" coming to Logos. Each mobile app would have a default "mobile" (device specific) project, so all resource location info would stay put until you changed to a different "project." On the other hand, if you are working on a sermon for this week, next week, and a wedding, you could open any of those "projects" and go to the resource location for each respective project."

(1) I want to second alabama's plea for projects. Layouts are a weird compromise measure which satisfies no one.

(2) True word clouds in the passage guide. https://community.logos.com/forums/p/122319/799459.aspx

(3) The ability to print the inline reverse interlinear. When preparing, I still print out my text with triple spacing and wide margins. I would really like to be able to do that with the reverse interlinear (copying and pasting gives a weird table, which makes controlling spacing very strange).

(4) To get me to actually use them: Make Community Notes more like regular notes.I want to open all of the community notes in a certain group as a note in the software, instead of that awkward side bar.  Where then I can have a certain group open, right click and add rich text. Unlike a shared document, which has to be redownloaded, etc, my additions will automatically sync to everyone else's document.

+1 Yes for Search pop-up assistance when desired.  Matching language markings could become like morph search @ with various morphologies (or integrated with @ morph search).

Also dreaming of Search drop down list population filtering.  Personally not use series nor mytag for search selection so not having them in search drop down list of resources seems more efficient (and less scrolling).

Likewise dreaming of Right Click Menu customization (order of items and pop-up size) so can reduce many clicks needed for scrolling.

Using an Interactive to select resource(s) for a search could be helpful: e.g. Systematic Theology to select desired resource(s) for search.  Psalms and Proverbs Interactives could be useful for topical filtering with search.

Open the Groups tool. Select "Logos Collections" using the item at the top of that panel. Select Documents a couple lines below that. Then search for the collection you want and click the Copy button to add it.

I'd like to have check boxes in the notes documents for each individual note. This would allow us to select several notes and then bulk move, copy, delete, tag etc. our notes. Just something that would greatly improve the quality of the notes documents.

I like the idea of number two in this list.

Thanks; learned What's New in Logos 6 thread has link to New Feature: Faithlife Groups thread (albeit Documents not shown)

Web page shows who added document while Groups tool does not:

Dreaming of Date format option in Groups tool so can show relative date (current) or Date (as appears on web page).

MJ. Smith:

Get your proposals in the hopper before this particular window of opportunity closes.

My two highest priority UserVoice suggestions both relate to excessively bright color shades of a majority of Bible book cover icons (e.g., ESV, LEB) which were implemented with the introduction of Logos 6 and which in my opinion are a distraction from reading the Bible text and continue to cause me uncomfortable eye strain.  The two suggestions (see links below) address this same issue but in different ways, presenting different potential solutions:

https://logos.uservoice.com/forums/42823-logos-bible-software-6/suggestions/6774705-decrease-the-brightness-level-of-all-bible-book-co

https://logos.uservoice.com/forums/42823-logos-bible-software-6/suggestions/9117382-allow-users-to-add-their-own-bible-book-cover-icon

A third UserVoice suggestion I've submitted (see link below) involves a similar issue (the extreme bright orange color shade of the Link Set feature’s indicator box).  This suggestion also includes several potential solutions:

https://logos.uservoice.com/forums/42823-logos-bible-software-6/suggestions/9117586-allow-users-to-customize-the-color-of-the-link-set

I consider the three UserVoice suggestions listed above to be priority needs and I pray Logos considers them.

My wishlist for Logos 7 is:

  1. The ability to search for links (so I could find all the times a particular book, or a particular page range of book is referenced in other resources).
  2. The ability to search within Headwords/LCV entries, just as we can search within Milestones (so I could search all the articles on a specific topic for a particular word/reference).
  3. A revamped prioritisation tool that isn't restricted to a tiny column within my library, and can better handle long prioritisation lists.
  4. The addition of a proper NOT operator in search (so you could do searches like Holy NOT(BEFORE 1 WORD Spirit). Currently we have to do Holy ANDNOT "Holy Spirit", which isn't the same thing).
  5. More intelligent search ranking, perhaps that factors in consideration how highly I have rated a book. The current system favours resources with very short articles, which is often very unhelpful.
  6. The ability to create collections from resource traits.

I definitely think its time to further enhance the PB feature.

The ability to import documents of multiple types (maybe calibre will shareware with you), the ability to play videos, and audio from within the pb without launching an external player (you guys DO have some sort of player software builtin already for mobile ed).

I have probably a thousand documents that I would love to import en-masse. that would be a nice feature as well. for title, authors name (etc) it could read the meta-data.

Further and for some backstage enhancements, you could generate a hash of each PB you host, and if my file matches MJ's - then there is no sense in hosting two copies on your servers. I suspect ALOT of the material people use as PB's comes from similar sources (eg the forum), so if 5000 people all have the same 9mb file, it makes more sense to host it once, rather than 5000 times.

Since logos is only looking at a hash of a file, it can't know whether the file is "honest" or not shielding faithlife. It maintains a users privacy because again, FL doesn't know anything beyond that these two files have the same hash.
